Why Play Video Games

Have you ever wanted to go to a place where you could let go? Where you could be yourself and not worry about anyone but yourself. Where you wanted to go but you just didn’t have the time or money. Well, simple, video games. Explore Pirates Bay, Madagascar in Uncharted 4. Visit the depths of the ocean in Bioshock’s Rapture or beautiful skies of Columbia in BioShock Infinite. Explore your creative side in Little Big Plant where dreams run wild. Blow up an airplane attached to a gas station, just cause in the game… Just Cause (see what I did there). Fight aliens and win earth back in Destiny or be on the front lines in Call of Duty or Battlefield. And how could I forget about you sports fan out there: MLB, NCAA, NHL, NBA the list really goes on. Probably got the point now but let’s talk some more. Video games change the way we think, feel, hear, see, move and act. We think differently when we are faced with a problem, we do something we know (human instinct) then it flips us upside down then we have to learn a different more creative way (video games). Feeling is a big one. Like music makes you feel when it hits that right note, books take you to that time and place just like you’re with that person, films create depth in a way that’s more than just a thousand words. But video games gets you there, I mean there-there. You are in the moment seeing, hearing, feeling the brush of your daughter’s hair just lying in your arms dead because of some mean jerk “just following orders” (the last of us). This is real, you are there it gets you and you would just have to play the game for yourself to see that. Oh, and when you do you won’t forget that feeling, trust me I know. Being into video games is okay, it’s the twenty-first-century. Nerds don’t exist! Only gamers and their passion for moving forward and to create, be creative, be themselves. Everyone plays even if they don’t think or consider it. Solitaire, Angry Birds, Facebook games if you will, heck I’d consider playing with your calculator is good enough for me. The fact you can type 5318008 (do it) and see what you and other people get…..it’s amazing. We need this (Not like a drug, or addiction) like a feeling and release from all the bull crap you suck up every day and simply sit down and just play. Play that it! With or without friends or family. Now grab that cape, hammer, torch, or whatever you can make out of your backpack and take the plunge to the best and probably your happiest decision you have ever made. Play. • Why play video games, one may just simply ask just for an answer but like gamers and streamers like us we have a different answer. Why do we really play Vedic games? Simply because we love exploring, adventuring, and just playing different types of video games. Think of a regular boring summer day, you have a ps4...... Go play on it! I mean do something on it or play a game. Playing video games maybe helps us with different problems in life, I know for me it's getting away from everyone and also because I love playing on my ps4 but it's a different way of life and it's an awesome one. So go ahead I say and turn on your dusty game console or play on your ps4 and tell me why you don't play more on it. Game on. -Chaow21- @twitch

      • If you get so immersed into a game you "feel" yourself holding your dead daughter after some guy shot her, there might be a problem.

        • Some people consider quotes from Celebrities, experts, books, movies and TV Shows brilliant. In all my time, all my books, my movies, my shows, never, and I mean never, have I ever experienced the feeling that the Quotes at the end of every Assassin's Creed give me. Whether learning from Ezio to cherish every moment, or from Edward to always hold friends dear, or even from Arno, warning us of the dangers of fanaticism, and to do as we wish. Assassin's Creed will, and forever will be, one of the most deeply powerful and meaningful games I have played. Disagree with me if you will, but what every Assassin says strikes you hard. And of course, the bond we develop with the characters. Following Ezio from a young man to an elder and seeing him pass was heartbreaking, Edwards realisation that the world isn't all about plunder and glory, or following Arno's tragic, watching everyone he loves die. I will forever hold those games dearly. Because to me, they are more than just games.

This is kinda cringeworthy. Your post is reminiscent of pictures like these.

Totally agree with your post. It is one of the main reasons I play videogames. Just want to evade and relax. With all the different kind of consoles (3DS, XBOX, PS4, WiiU...) and different gameplays one can never get bored :D ps: throw some anime in between and some exercise and... I'll be happy :D

                        • Gaming not only allows us to indulge our dark and primal side (be it killing with guns, swords and spears etc) but allows us to feel as though we can reach ambitions we never could in reality. I mean sure you could go out become the world heavy weight champ but after that then what? You can't become a sports car driver as well or humanities saviour from a religious alien group. Games just allow us to explore side of ourselves and take on roles real life would never allow. Being a soldier, sports star, mythic creature hunter etc etc. Games help us escape from what is becoming an increasingly mundane world to explore (not saying it's boring but there's less left to discover now and it's also harder to get into the adventurer line of work these days) allowing us to explore alternate pasts presents and futures. We can be who ever we want to be for as long as we want to be.
