Does anyone else actually like the June Update?

Ahem, let me dust off my soap box for a minute. Let me start off by saying I main a Hunter, and obviously the changes in the June patch affected us the hardest. The nerf to tripmines and bladedancers was something that really impacted our community. For the past couple of months, I've heard nothing but hate, salt, and ire from my fellow hunters about this change; going as far as to ask for people to step down from their position at Bungie. But have you actually looked at what this update really gave us? Now that the dust has settled, have you noticed you're still playing Destiny? I honestly really enjoyed the update. I do believe Bungie messes up here and there, and their communication with the player base is pretty minimal, if not patronizing at times (cough, releases one graph, cough). But the changes brought something new to the game, and brought something that every video game should have now and then: challenges that test our adaptability. So what if Gunslingers got a nerf? We got a huge increase in super damage (Golden Gun) in PVE, and they gave us a farmable strike with solar burn THAT SAME week! Also, I wish I had the source but someone posted some statistics showing an [b]increase[/b] in tripmine usage since the June patch. That means no matter how many people were complaining, people (maybe even those of you who complained) went into the crucible with Young Ahamkara Spines and went crazy with tripmines. And thats good! You made them work, just in a different way than before. Bladedancers are now moving over to increased control, and changing the way they play entirely. The change to invisibility has completely altered the dynamic and way we Arc Blade, since we need to be smarter with our swings. This update also made many people test out grenades on their characters that they have never even touched before. I've seen plenty of spike grenades being flown around, and while they're not really a threat, who cares? You're not trying anything new so stop complaining. And not just hunters. All subclasses saw super damage increased for their characters, and we have modifiers on Heroric Strikes. I mean, how cool is that? Now you don't just have to run Sunsinger/Nightstalker/Defender because they're the go to for PVE, although they're still really awesome. But I found myself using Stormcaller on my Warlock in PVE and it is really fun. Sunbreakers can throw their hammers with ease and just make an orb storm for their allies. One other note, for my brethren who want Shoulder Charge to be nerfed, stop. We die to shoulder charge just as much as Titans die from the thousand other shenanigans Hunter's display in the Crucible, so stop. It's really awesome that so many Titans are going to a subclass that is usually untouched in both PVP and PVE. Finally, Hand Cannons got a range buff? Maybe its not what we need to send them over the edge, but now I can use my favorite weapons in any game type without worrying if I am contributing to my team or not. I just recently took a Hand Cannon into King's Fall Hard Mode and had such a blast, and wasn't worried at all that I wasn't contributing to the team. I actually had fun for the first time in a game mode I've done countless times. That is precious, and something I can truly thank Bungie for. If Bungie is really making you get out of your comfort zone, good, that is what they're suppose to do. It is all about being flexible. If you can't be flexible and you don't like change, then pick up a new game. Stop being so toxic on this forum and just try something new for once. Trust me, it'll be quite the experience. I have plenty of concerns about this update; as much as the next guy in fact. But I'd rather focus on the good and what I can do to adapt and become a better player than sit behind a keyboard and just bitch and moan. I guess this is an apology from a Hunter, on behalf of people who don't know what they're talking about. I would love to hear what you guys have been doing since the June Update and what changes you have enjoyed, since I think we've all had our fill of hearing what has been wrong with this update.   • End of day nothing is rendered unusable as warlock who prefers sunsinger the changes just made me get less postmortem kills nd made me practice fusions so I could use without killing myself. (Still do tho) adapt evolve nd wait cos soon your going to have a whole new nerf or buff to compensate for. Not happy but not angry.

  • Beautiful post. This sums up a lot of how I feel. So many people say "retract the June Update" but I don't think they realize the amazing buff we got to supers in PvE. No longer do I waste my arc blade on one yellow bar knight. I'm stubborn in the headlights of change, but I feel like this update has made me explore different play styles and tactics. I'm glad to see another Hunter mature enough to see the good things in this update. :)

  • the only thing i liked about it is that bladedancers can actually hit something with their super although the rest of that subclass is borderline terrible.

    • With the nerf to trip mines and throwing knives though gg is still pointless in pve and now is weak in pvp. They gave a boost to the thing you use maybe two times in a strike and then nerfed what you'd use 90% of the time in pve meaning that more than ever gunslinger sucks in pve. And with the agility nerf and the changes which make it so you can kill so fewer enemies on BD it still useless. Not to mention the crap grenades on it. Meaning Nightstalker is still the only good class for a Hunter. Yeah void Walker and striker are useful in pve but buns reader and stormcaller were already great in pve so nothing changed for them. Let's also not forget that people have been asking for two years for a pve buff to those supers and I'm not going to praise them for something long over due.

        • Thanks for a nice post. I've been farming strikes with my hunter in the hopes of getting a ldr, I got one with hidden hand. Other then that im hoping to kill oryx on challenge mode and get 335.

        • Yep, hunters were affected the most in the June update, while warlocks were affected the most in the April update and titans in the December update.

          • You're not like most Hunters. I like your style and outlook. Honestly, whatever Bungie does I roll with it. Sure, some patches I may not like, but you find something new to use. There are hundreds of weapons to use (though they may be reskinned models) and they have unique qualities so just play around. I always do that

          • Isn't it more than a little presumptuous of you to apologise on behalf of Hunters whom, just because they do not hold the same view as you that theJune update created a Destiny nirvana, you regard as some sort of idiots with little knowledge of the class. Hunters always adapt to prevailing conditions and continuing to play that class but they ha ve every right to voice their opinions whilst doing so, just as you have.

          • I think blade dancing is way more fun now. I never used it in PVP or PVE prior to the update but now I never want to switch.

          • Bungie nerfs off of numbers a computer gives them. It's known fact that hunters make up better part community why the numbers on kd would show higher. Why the first nerfs came to BD. Than the meta switched and everyone flopped creating bungie a next nerf. And so on it goes. It's not kids crying for nerfs it's the player base flocking to the metas that's causing all this mess. When will half the community understand this.

          • I really don't mind it and I can see the reasons behind most of the changes. The only thing that I thought was weird was the tripmine damage nerf.

          • Parts of the nerf were good. Like the tripmine not sticking. The lightning grenade does not stick, so why should the tripmine? It would have been better if the lightning grenade could stick. However if you are stupid enough to walk into a tripmine stuck to the wall, you should die from it.

          • Other than the damage reduction to tripmines, I have no problem with the June update. But if a fusion grenade can kill me in one hit, someone 2 feet away from an exploding tripmine should die as well.

            • I personally think the June update was great. The biggest problems lie in PvP, and I don't touch that apart from Iron Banner. Sure, some subclass abilities got messed with, but look at the damage we can do now. PvE Supers haven't felt this good since Y1. The Undying Mind strike is [i]great[/i] for my Striker (especially this week. Arc Burn!) because I can land consistant kills with it. Can't remember the last time I could say that. In PvE, Throwing Knives can still OHK everything it could before - Vandals, Acolytes, Goblins, Legionaries. Not sure about the Sunsinger subclass, as I deleted my Warlock before the update rolled out.
