From what I understand, Touch of Malice hurts you because that's Akka (Orxy's Worm) and a piece of Oryx himself in that containment field. If you notice while you're firing it the field gets weaker until it breaks. Then it lashes out at you. As you hurt others, so will you be hurt. That's part of the Sword Logic. The gun acts like a sword, binding the wielder to the victim. The gun is also Orxy's plan to become immortal.

They feel the pain of their victim. Every cut and stab. They make every death a holy ritual. Every death is sacred to the Hive. Because to Orxy killing and survival mean the same thing.
