Part 17- The Prime As the Ahamkara built up another gout of flames, it was interrupted by the firing of wire rifles. It shot flames into the air as it turned to see its assaulters. A band of Fallen Vandals and Shanks kept firing at the beast as the shots reflected off of its scaly hide. While the monster decimated the Fallen, Matthew got Saliks back up on his feet and led them to cover behind two large trees. The two heard the screams of the Fallen while they were slaughtered, and the defiant screech of the Shanks’ metal being pierced by the claws of the monster. Then all was silent. “I… know… you’re here…” The Ahamkara said in a low, gravelly voice, its head poking around every tree. “I’ve lived for hundreds of thousands of years… you can’t hide from me…” Just then, then snout of the Ahamkara began protruding from around Saliks’ tree. Just as his eyes were about to come out from behind cover, Matthew shouted, “Hey! Chicken feet!” The Ahamkara’s head whipped around to look at the tree it was coming from. He lunged at it, crushing it into splinters. He checked underneath his claws to find nothing but pieces of wood. “Over here!” The same voice said. Matthew threw a stone into a nearby bush, which was immediately engulfed in flames. Once the Ahamkara came to see there was nothing there but scorched ground, He began looking around. As his snout protruded around Matthew’s tree now, he slowly unsheathed the Xiphos. Just as most of the Ahamkara’s head rounded the tree, Matthew quickly jumped out of cover and slashed at the beast’s horns. One of the horns crashed to the forest floor, the Ahamkara crying out in pain and surprise. “I’ll burn you to a crisp!” It shouted, a gout of flames building in its throat once again. Matthew ran at it, his Xiphos at the ready. Just as the Ahamkara shot its pillar of fire, Matthew swung his sword. The flames reflected off the glass, setting the treetops ablaze. Matthew swung again, smashing the flat of the blade into the side of the monster’s head. It roared as it was nearly knocked over. The impact managed to push it back at least three feet, but it used the momentum to swing its tail at Matthew. Matthew narrowly jumped over it as he sliced the tip of the scaly tail off. Once Matthew landed, he was met with the Ahamkara’s claw falling down upon him. He rose the Xiphos above his head, and the Ahamkara stabbed its own hand into the glass sword, the blade piercing its flesh. It roared in pain once again, flinching backwards as golden blood began to gush from the wound. “You’ll pay for that!” He cried as Matthew ran. It began chasing after him, powering through all that came in his way. Suddenly, Matthew turned around to swing his sword, slicing through a tree like a hot knife through butter. It fell upon the Ahamkara, which broke onto its spiked scaly back as it roared in pain. Matthew ran at it while it was distracted, but as he went to swing his sword one last time, the Ahamkara batted it away with its unwounded claw. It soared into the bushes far away. Matthew began to run. The Ahamkara crashed after him, shouting. “There’s nowhere to run, boy! Just give up!” Just then, Matthew tripped on a stray root of a tree. He stumbled to keep his balance, but he was running so fast that it was too late. He fell on his back as the Ahamkara’s claws crashed at his sides, not letting him escape. As it charged one last, fatal pillar of white flame, something caught Matthew’s eye. The Ahamkara’s chopped off horn lied not far away from him, and he reached for it. Right as the dragon-like monster began to fire its gout of flame, it felt something heavy push against his head, causing him to shoot the column of white flame into the trees next to his left instead of at Matthew, making nothing but the next ten yards of trees nearly nonexistent. “Now, Matthew!” Saliks yelled, shoving the Ahamkara’s head away. Matthew’s fingers closed around the Ahamkara’s severed horn and drove it straight into its chest, shoving with all of his might. The Ahamkara roared as it felt the sharp horn pierce his chest, driving straight into his heart. All was still for a moment, and then suddenly, the Ahamkara fell over, uprooting multiples trees as it crashed into them. Matthew pulled the horn out as he got up, tying it to his side. Both him and Saliks were sitting, trying to catch their breath while the dragon-like beast stared into nothingness. They both smiled, then began to laugh hysterically, “We just killed a dragon!” They both kept repeating, shaking their heads as they kept laughing while the flaming treetops died down. After hours of rest, they both finally stood up. Matthew searched through the bushes to find his Xiphos slightly floating above the ground. He sheathed it, and they began leaving the dense forest. They arrived at a giant junkyard, a mountain of Fallen scrap metal at the center of it. “What is this?” Matthew wondered out loud. “This is the metal hollows.” Saliks said, gesturing to the entire area, “Only the Kell and his guard are allowed here by his regime.” He then gestured at the mountain of scrap metal, “And this is where we’ll find the Prime.” Part 17.5- Assumptions The Kell stood, looking at the blazing forest Matthew and Saliks escaped into. “Is this how you allow your Fallen to die, Kraxis?” The Archon said to the Kell. “Watch your tongue, Trankiks.” The Kell said to the Archon priest, turning to face him. “The beast would have killed them all anyways. He needed to be fed again, as to keep our favor.” The Kell said, glaring at the Archon, “Remember, Trankiks, without Simiks Prime you are nothing but a master engineer now.” The Archon shook his head, “As you say… Sire.” The Archon said, giving a very slight bow before leaving the Kell’s quarters. “If only he knew…”
