Infusing an exotic into another exotic should not require an exotic shard. If I were to just dismantle the exotic I would get a shard, so where does that shard go when I infuse it into another exotic? Using logic, one could assume that the shard required by the exotic being upgraded would no longer be needed, because it would be granted from the other exotic being infused into it. It sounds like a fair one-for-one trade if you ask me. However, this is not the case in-game, but I strongly believe it should be. It just makes sense.
Obviously, if I infuse a legendary into an exotic it should still require a shard.
Like or bump if you agree.

That would be too fair!

I've thought it should be this way for a long time. Your argument makes sense (and I agree). But, it does reduce a bit of the grind (or annoyance using the kiosk method). I think it's probably just the code. X -> Exotic = shard + glimmer + mote....etc. They just need a special case for when X = Exotic to remove the shard requirement. I obviously don't know how the game is programmed (I am a programmer though). My bet would be it was more efficient (even though not fair) to keep it the same whether X is exotic or not.

Are... you..(the community)...-blam!-ing.....kidding me!!! I said this same shit and get trolled? wow. Still bump to you bro. It is stupid.

3 RepliesAnd infusing an exotic into a legendary should GIVE YOU an exotic shard....because legendaries don't use them!! There should be one left over!

Great feedback

2 RepliesIt's the same thing with legendary marks though. You either lose legendary marks through infusing or gain them through dismantling.

who ever came up with the concept of sacrificing an exotic and needing an exotic shard to proceed with the upgrade needs their head examined . This was one of the worst decisions made for infusing period. An Exotic shouldn't require another exotic shard to upgrade said exotic that's both redundant and blatant stupidity.

You are so right. As Xur no longer sells exotic shards, the only way to get them is by dismantling year one stuff, or duplicate items you get through game. You also need exotic shards for re-rolling exotic armour, in addition to using glass needles. Re-rolling is a very expensive exercise and in some cases hardly worth the effort. This part of the game, along with the similar lack of armour parts, needs a serious alteration and soon. Just let Xur sell exotic shards and and one of the vendors selling armour parts would solve the problem. It's not rocket science.

Bump.

i think the better idea is to just get rid of them entirely. just have exotics cost double legendary marks for infusal and let us trade in are exotic shard inventory for rep or something. I like this new trend of eliminating the three million currencies we have, and hope they continue it further.

It definitely sucks. The net effect is 2 shards, the one you use and the one that is lost by not dismantling the weapon used for infusion.. The shard issue is relatively easy to work around as others have explained, but the inane nature of this paticular mechanism is hard to rationalize. I can't imagine why we aren't provided with a simpler and less costly option for infusing exotics. C'mon Bungie!

I'd settle for exotics dropping at 335 for 335 characters. Tired of getting these 334 exotics as a 335.

Bump😫

2 shards from a upgraded exotic. So it costs you 3 shards for one infusion in some cases.

Totally agree

Agreed, signed, stamped, bumped, and liked.

I am almost out of shards bc of this mess

3 RepliesI'm sitting on 105 E. Shards, but I still agree, if you're consuming an exotic, it shouldn't require an additional shard.
