Emile is wearing SPI armor?
Think about it: he is a Spartan III, and this was their trademark armor. Consider this: Halo 3's Armor screen (that tells you their backstory) states that EVA armor is for "Extra Vehicular Activity", i.e. fighting in space. Considering you're on the ground at Reach, this wouldn't make sense for him to be wearing it. SPI armor, on the other hand, was made especially for stealth.

Also, he has so far been seen with a rather nasty looking Combat Knife, and a new type of Shotgun. This may hint at his covert-nature. Additionally, he has a ghost painted/scratched onto his helmet, and since ghosts are seen as a horrifying, yet stealthy creature, it makes sense.

The guy was just stating that's how we knew it was Mark V. The big backpack looking thing is the battery pack for the shields. It's fully integrated with the entire suit. Look at Emile's chest plate under all those bullets and shells and grenades. It's the same as everybody elses (Minus Jorge). That being said would he want just his helmet to go camo and be unshielded while his body is shielded and visible? And the latter would only hold true if ONI doesn't assign armor (and scratching a skull onto your visor doesn't help much with visibility).

There's no point in arguing that it's SPI, it's been confirmed to be EVA. and yes EVA existed even as a mark IV model (watch "The Package"). I have no idea why emile (who is a guy) picked EVA, maybe he just thought it looked cool or wanted the larger visor for better visibility.
