So.....shoot boss shoot adds is too complicated for matchmade teams?

You're giving your content way too much credit if you think a matchmade team would have anything other than success in the Challenge of Elders. Now, I'm of the opinion that all endgame activities, even is success is not likely, should have optional matchmaking. Those who are experienced and want to make sure they have a good team can still do so, and those who don't normally experience the endgame can also do so. Though I disagree with Bungie, I know their reasoning for keeping matchmaking out of endgame -- difficulty. However, I can't even begin to understand why they thought matchmade teams would be unfit for Challenge of Elders. It's no more complicated than regular prison of elders; actually, it might be less complicated because you're always fighting bosses. Now, I was hoping it wouldn't be like this, seeing as how it's an endgame activity and not some story mission, but these bosses have absolutely no mechanic. One might say that in future weeks we might see tougher bosses that actually do something, but I wouldn't count on it. What we see in the stream is usually what we get, nothing more. Each boss fight plays out the exact same way: shoot the boss, shoot some adds, shoot the boss, shoot some adds, shoot the boss, shoot some adds, shoot the boss. But wait there's more; this boss shoots fire at you, in which case the fight proceeds as follows: shoot the boss, shift over 5 feet, shoot some adds, shoot the boss, shift over 5 feet, shoot some adds. Now, CoE is still kind of fun, because you don't have to deal with the same monotonous bullshit that one finds on their shoes when playing the normal Prison of Elders. The point system makes it more engaging, and incentivizes shooting the adds. Nonetheless, Challenge of Elders is so simple. It requires just about the same amount of tactic as vanguard strikes, which begs the question: Why can heroic strikes be matchmade, and Challenge of Elders not be? Better yet, why can regular Prison of Elders be matchmade, and Challenge of Elders not be? Normal PoE has much more potential for failure; baboons who don't know how to dismantle mines, pricks who open the chest when teammates are still at the top, etc. The closest to failure you come in Challenge of Elders is an ever so slight point reduction once in a while.

  • Yesterday (24.06.16) I had trubble finding even one player for CoE. But with the one I found we got to 27000 points. The Cabal were trouble fir two, but the rest was piece of cake. Lvl 41 PoE with Taken is more complicated than this but has matchmaking. But lfg is nothing more than manual matchmaking that wastes my time with posting adds on multiple forums. wtf! This makes no sense as do most of Bungievi$ons stupid design decissions. So sad seeing such potential wasted by idiots, who can't create a story and -blam!- up PvE weapons because of PvP balance. The new CEO should remove a bunch of people and bring Staten back.

  • Oh my god everyone quit bitching. It's probably soloable since you only lose 50 points now. Me and a buddy did it in three goes like normal. He alone got 20k each time. I was eating and -blam!-ing with my contacts. He could've soloed it. It's not hard. I'm sure I could've if I was more attentive

  • Optional matchmaking would work, but Bungie have never given end game activities matchmaking, only reason I can think is to slow down progression, people that have no friends playing or just don't want to join a clan for what ever reason, or people that just like playing solo are the ones Bungie are holding back, they will continue to play in hope of progressing the hard way, keeps people playing, it will never change.

  • At the very least, I would like the option to turn off matchmaking for Strikes. Sometimes I just want to go shoot Phogoth by myself.

  • I've run probably 60 Challenge of Elders so far and can see why matchmaking may not work and it owes nothing to the difficulty. How you run it highly depends on the progress of your Sigil. When I solo this, I go for 45,000 per completion. When I run with a team, I go for 30-35,000 per round. I completed all of my Sigils by Wednesday and played dozens of Challenge modes after and speed ran it. My goal was to spend no more than 5 minutes per completion. We got it down to three kills per run (only the bosses) and around 5:30. Between losing solo play as an option or getting paired with people who are not likely to share a common goal - you may want a 30-40,000 point run, whereas I may want to slaughter the bosses and move on. Neither one of us would be happy to get paired with each other. Another thing is, same with strikes, I don't want to pull people through, especially not for endgame rewards. Last thing I want is some AFK a-hole sitting stagnate or dead the whole time while I or other people complete everything, then that guy ends up with a 335 reward. It happens in strikes and would most likely happen in the challenge. I know it's petty, but it really chaps my ass seeing non-participant combatants get the equal or better rewards than people who actually put in the effort.

For the last time. Optional Matchmaking should not and will not happen. 1. The only people that would use this feature would be the ultra-casual and the offensively inexperienced. Imagine 6 295's with barely 3000 grimoire trying to beat King's Fall, without a mic. It's impossible. 2. No one uses their mics in matchmade games. Trust me, they don't. I have never heard a single person use their mic in matchmade activities since the feature was introduced. 3. It's a total waste of time and money. Why do you expect Bungie to do something that won't even work properly? If you've never beaten a Raid or PoE before, the only person that is to blame is yourself, for not taking the necessary steps to get a group (LFG, Join a clan advertise on forums etc) I have beaten VoG, Crota and King's Fall collectively, nearly 200 times. I have completed almost everything this game has to offer. I also know the struggle to find teams. I used to only be able to do the raid a few times a month due to poor groups and lack of players. Then I joined a decent clan, deleted all the bad players off my friends list and made friends with hundreds of talented players. I took steps to maximize my chances of finding a decent group ever week. The problem here isn't Bungie, it's lazy casuals wanting everything to come easily to them.

        • So I didn't read the whole post but I saw the Challenge of Elders in the second paragraph. Now it may only be this week but you can solo the ever living -blam!- out of it. We will find out tomorrow if we actually need teams for this "Challenge" but if I can easily get 44000 points by myself then there is no issue when it comes to matchmaking. Honestly I would rather do it by myself. More heads I get to pop

        • I don't disagree with you on PoE or CoE individually. They could add matchmaking and I doubt anyone would have much of a problem barring the trolls and such that you run into during matchmaking. I do think that the method they chose with this roll out is probably the best compromise between anti and pro OMM that we'll see as it provides MM for the lower tier option allowing people to find others they play well with and bring those teams into the higher difficulty.

        • How hard is it to incorporate the Social recruiting into the frikken game. Whether it be the app or this frikken website. they are not controlled by either my headset or my controller. why should I waste my time on an outside source when it should be in this game being described as a social experience. Bungie get your heads out of your ass, stop nerfing everything under the sun and incorporate better things into this game instead of listening to every whiney jackhole. bitch ass floozies.

Does it really kill you to look on a stupid app to get TWO people?! Plus it's new; everyone is trying to run this shit. It takes less than 2 minutes to get a team and you even get to hand pick them (light level, class, etc). I don't want some scrub on my team telling me, "I'm a Titan but I haven't level up my defender class" or some other lame excuse why they suck. Yes, this week was simple because we had easy bosses and an easy modifier but we all have experienced doing the nf for instance with some modifier that was challenging (example: brothers with solar burn. Doable but challenging). Now imagine having some loser on your team in matchmaking that you can't boot him from the fire team. Oh, worse of all, no cp. good luck with that.

            • I do feel that at this point there should be OMM for everything except HM KF and Trials (unless all 6 are MM). However, adds/boss, adds/boss, etc is too complicated for most people. Why is it so difficult for people to get past Totems? Apparently sniping a boomer and team shooting a wizard is too complicated. The most difficult part of KF is taking down the ogres quickly. Thats it. But it's apparently too hard for your average gamer, hence why it takes so damn long to finish.

            • I say now and as poof I'll tell you what happened on Thursday just doing one strike with a match made team first time the two people who it put me with just up and left cuase it was the saber strike no one joined for 20 mins so I gave up and started again dark blade the two people I matched me with up and left again I thought okay it's dark blade I can get though this when one guy joins in and he just stands where he spawned doing nothing and he continues to do nothing until I get to the boss only when does he move. Next strike he just stands there and deos nothing I report him every 2 minutes but bungie just let him says and it's not until I'm at the boss does he move and he when he does next to nothing on the winters strike so the next mission I just up and leave so next one I go into it's the psn only one and guess what happens one guys picks up the thing and he does not know what to do with it we eventually get to the boss when cuase they are both rubbish they just up and leave when again I get two more even although I 'm at the boss and it's right there they just get out there ghost and leave that shows excatly why match made teams would not work and just make some people leave games.

              • Optional matchmaking should be in the game and custom matches in PvP. As for LFG...my experience is not good. It's difficult to get six people (who are also effectively strangers) together for an evening to complete the raid, even more difficult to get them to cooperate, agree, reach a consensus, when most of them behave like they are under 5 years old or are the best players in the game. A couple of friends I play regularly with report exactly the same kind of experience (we are Y1 casual players with not a lot of time to spare in planning these events and even less time to be messed around). I cannot commit to the vagaries of an 'international' LFG fire-team of Destiny MVP's at 4 a.m.! I am in the UK and I have noticed a distinct lack of local match-making recently (maybe a declining player base?) in game. This weekend, I started about half a dozen heroic strikes with a team of three only to be the last-man standing after about 30seconds, which I've not seen before. Without effective match-making it locks out a lot of players from end-game content. Bungie could help with this. How about an in-game Sherpa reward? Might work better than 'refer-a-friend'...Might work better for them than the elitist fascism seen on LFG sites. The game must consist of some truly great video game players if you believe the requirements! I would settle for an ability to communicate for PvE and the lack of a lag switch for ToO! An in-game match-made team would at least replace drop-outs with others looking to accomplish the same goals at the same time. Rewards and loot are checkpoint-complete based: so if you joined at Oryx, you get different drops than if you played right through or whatever stage-gated quests are, based on total runs. I thought that was what the shards were for?

              • Even from an industry standard, not many games utilize matchmaking specifically because of the non challenge aspect of an endgame activity. They do it because the experience is much better by forming it, with friends, and going into the challenge. If you cannot? Then you can just as easily message in another friend, explain the situation, and that friend can go on to help them. Destiny is about socializing for the most part. While other games make it so fireteams can't do certain activities (simply because they chose not to support that) Destiny does. So collectively? Matchmaking is a design idea. It's built around solid deliverable(s) and ultimately making sure people are willing to go after the rewards. If you don't like that? Fine, say so, but don't expect it or demand it. We aren't children.

                • I think the lack of OMM reflects two things: 1. A form of time gating. Bungie knows with OMM we would tear through their paltry content that much quicker; only to realize there's nothing there (which only took us a few days anyway); and 2. The relationship between Bungie, third party sites, and advertisers.
