I've heard this many times among Dark Souls fans that 2 was bad or not as good as the 1st. Is it because it was easier? Or is there another reason why you didn't like it?
I liked the first even though I never put the time in to beat it...and never played 2. Now there's a 3rd coming out and I find myself debating on trying the Scholar of the First Sin and then maybe playing 3.
Edit: Picked up Scholar of the First Sin and it's pretty good. Running a knight and got as far as beating the first couple bosses so far (Last Giant and Pursuer).

My main gripe with DS2 is that the boss themes aren't nearly as memorable as the ones in the first game.
-
3 RepliesI like it. DS2 and Bloodborne are my two favorite games right now.
-
It's good. Let no one tell you otherwise.

Edited by Bake8935: 3/29/2016 4:40:21 AMIt doesn't suck at all. It's quite good in fact. In some ways it's superior to the original in my opinion. For some reason it became the cool thing to hate on it. Which is fine, it doesn't affect my personal enjoyment of the game.

Personally I loved the game equally as much as 1, there were just a few differences that receive a lot of hate: - level design was more linear than 1, less shortcuts and hidden areas - many bosses weren't as creative, although many were and don't receive credit for it - soul memory was a terrible decision Other than those 3 things, the first and last being the biggest issues, it was a pretty great game. I think people just like to put a label on it saying it sucked because Miyazaki wasn't on it, but I think it was still a great game.
-
I thought it was awesome.
The last boss was a big disappointment though.
It's a good and fun game. It's just not a "Miyazaki" souls game.

6 RepliesMOTHER -blam!-ING ADAPTABILITY STUPIDEST DESIGN DECISION EVER. Other than that the game is increadbliy linear and lacking in the way of short cuts and sensical level design. For -blam!-s sake you take an elevator up to a valley of lava... Even though you were just at the top of a mountain...

I think most people can agree that darksouls 2 is the worst in the series but it's not bad. It's still way better than other games out there.

9 RepliesEdited by Alfredo Fazbear: 3/28/2016 5:05:37 PMPoor level/boss design.
Also, Soul Memory makes me want to kill myself.
Never played 2 but I heard the company swindled its customers with all of these additions from Steam reviews and ratings.

3 RepliesMassive phantom reach with some weapons (ESPECIALLY some katanas and straight swords) Soul memory. Just why... Annoying and often random backstabbing Critical hits aren't as good as they were in DS1 Limited respawning (if not in that one covenant) No red eye/blue eye orbs (they only have cracked) Parrying is way more random and reliant on lag than it was in DS1 (in PVP) No giant dad There's probably more but that's all off the top of my head

11 RepliesEdited by DjNormal: 3/27/2016 1:39:04 AMBad graphics (compared to pre-release demos) Poor level design Unbalanced enemies Weapon durability issues Floaty controls ADP stat Some bad bosses Complete BS NPC invaders Mishmash of various development cycles shoehorned into one game And 3 areas that make me yearn for blight town Edit: I forgot about some awful hit detection (hello Pursuer) That said... It's the biggest Dark Souls game (including 3) It has the most weapons, spells and build variety It still has active PVP It's still worth playing (especially SOTFS)

The lead that designed demons souls and dark souls wasnt working on ds2. He was off working on bloodborn (another great game) during ds2s development. Its good to have others have a shot at it and see how they do so the lead can experiment with new things while cintinuing a already cemented and successful franchise. I never thought d2s was terrible or bad even. It was just the weakest of tje 3 thus far. Still fun and appropriately difficult at times, it was just missing that noticable spark that makes the previous ones awesome. That spark was injected into bloodborn at the time lol.

Game had an extremely segmented and cut up over world. Coming from Dark Souls, where nearly everything is interconnected and tied together by many different pathways, to a much more linear and separated game world left most of us Souls fans extremely jaded. Some of the features they implemented as well were idiotic, like the depleting health bar each time you die. I realize it was to promote people to use humanity and not just stay hollow, but it penalized you for death where DS practically encouraged it.

2 RepliesIt doesn't.

1 ReplySotFS is great. Get it. Beat it. And be ready for ds3 launch. Don't puss out.

1 ReplyLevel design was a big one for a lot of people. Dark Souls 1 had a huge, brilliantly interconnected world (at least for the first half of it) with short cuts that could get you to pretty much any point in the world without the need of fast travel. Dark Souls 2, on the other hand, had mostly linear levels with bonfires serving as fast travel points rather than places of rest. The lore in DS 2 was also kinda shit aside from a few bits here and there. Personally, I don't hate the game (I actually -blam!-ing adore it and have 900+ hours logged into it), but I can certainly see why people would.

1 ReplyMain reasons for me.... Overall Artistic Direction: The world looked white washed to me. I'm ok with it not being Dark. But if it's bright, it needs to be vibrant. Level Design: The world didn't feel like a once living and breathing place. It felt more like disjointed points of intrest on a wheel compared to the twisting, branching and more natural paths of Dark Souls. Poor Hit Detection: With all the improvements to combat, weapon and armor variety, somehow knowing if an attack would hit or miss became a crap shoot. I don't know how many times I saw myself flattened by an attack when the offending weapon or appendage landed a full character span from my sprawling body.

You get a twinkie and your blood vessels will pop and the final boss is a turtle
-
None of the Souls games suck! I love all of them and i can't stop playing DS3!
-
Poor map layout is my big one. Very linear and everything seemed disjointed and like completely separate locations while dark souls 1 had a beautifully sculpted master piece where you could walk pretty much anywhere pretty quickly. Also 2 seemed a little easier imo and for Some reason I felt invasions didn't happen as often and pvp wasn't as good because of soul memory
-
The real Souls director was busy with Bloodborne :)
-
I loved Dark Souls 2. The only problem was the softbans on last-gen and PC.
-
It doesnt. It wasn't as good, but it certainly didn't 'suck.' I don't think anybody has said otherwise.

Hit detection was garbage, bosses were way too easy, the world design was absolutely terrible, no shortcuts and linear af. The only good thing about dks2 is the god tier online connections
