I remember the debates in the days before challenge mode, debates over which strategy was the best for dispatching Oryx: regular or no-knight.
I personally preferred regular but happily did either strat depending on what each team wanted (by choice, I run with randoms every week, I don't have a regular raid group). I noticed a trend back then that people who insisted on no-knight were usually inflexible and could only do it that way while regular supporters could swing both ways (even saw people leave groups over it).
But now that challenge mode forced people to snipe a red bar knight and shoot the occasional acolyte eye, people have seen the light! I never run with groups now who insists on running no-knight when challenge mode isn't forcing them.
So can we all just admit that while it may have been more forgiving for lower levelled Guardian's, no-knight is an inferior strategy?
Also: Oryx is at the front and the door in which you enter is the back. Glad we sorted that out, too.
the regular strategy is better because kill everything. KILL EVERYTHING
-
Don't matter to me. Whichever strat is used, it's all easy.
-
No knight strategy is still superior for carrying the skilless who are unable to learn simple mechanics
-
No knight strategy is for scrubs that's for sure
-
Inferior to regular? No. In my opinion no knight was easier (I ran if that makes the difference but I did any role fine) But compared to 16 orb? Yes definitely.
-
Honestly, "challenge mode" seems like a cheese to me.
-
I remember when I was fresh to Oryx, it was the only thing people would try. As a result, I never beat Oryx, but when challenge mode came, people started doing it the original way. I never understood why that wasn't the way it was done anyway. It made more sense to have all 6 players active as opposed to putting the weight on 2 people and a runner.

I can do it both ways, but the challenge way is much better. In any case, i`m a team player and i`ll do what ever the team decides to do.

Edited by iluvumaryj: 3/6/2016 10:35:55 AMWait so running oryx killing knights is the norm now a days? Even when challenge mode isn't active? Maybe I will start doing it again

My strategy is to shoot it

I came to that conclusion the 1st time I saw it, only used that method once and it just further enforced my belief.

Nuff' said.

Edited by ChipRanchero: 3/6/2016 8:16:30 AMJust a matter of preference & team build. Done 8&8, challenge, regular & no knight and the difference is very very small in my experince. All you're doing is substituting one game play for another which fall again into play style and preference. Some people like to carry more responsibilities, play more often in high pressure situations or just want to be the spotlight of a particular part of the raid. ( no knight, be the runner and have all ogres blast you as you're jumping to get the relic or helping a newbie or low light level buddy) People that don't like to constantly run for the bombs or don't like running around areas on the wind session. ( wether is because they're bad at it or just don't want to deal with it even if they're completely capable of doing it. [8&8] ) Just a couple of examples that again fall under preference. I am adaptable to any strategy so are the buddies that I raid with. Unless it's challenge mode my team still does the No knight strategy.
and its still butter
Yup, it was making a meal out of the raid. I did Oryx on Thurdsay with a complete bunch of randoms of lfg. We did it first time, no wipes, unnecessary deaths, 16 orb strategy.

I thought this was debated and solved months ago

1 ReplyWho was saying no-knight was easier? It was a way to bypass being slightly lower light levels. It worked until you got better weapons and armor pieces. It did what it was intended to do, allowing lower leveled guardians to participate. There's no reason to use it now, well that is if you're 314 and up, I think.

Edited by daveg35: 3/6/2016 7:38:32 AMNo knight was very easy imo except when the runner gets blasted by the ogres. So it really came down to the runners ability to stay alive. Ppl still die from the enemies that spawn in and that eye blasting you while shooting the knight. I'm fine running both and don't consider either to be inferior since both had weaknesses. Regular may be more consistent
and you are right, door is at the back. I think of it as a big stage and oryx is the audience
Both are simple

Maybe I just never understood how to properly know how to do it but I thought it was awful
