I remember the debates in the days before challenge mode, debates over which strategy was the best for dispatching Oryx: regular or no-knight.
I personally preferred regular but happily did either strat depending on what each team wanted (by choice, I run with randoms every week, I don't have a regular raid group). I noticed a trend back then that people who insisted on no-knight were usually inflexible and could only do it that way while regular supporters could swing both ways (even saw people leave groups over it).
But now that challenge mode forced people to snipe a red bar knight and shoot the occasional acolyte eye, people have seen the light! I never run with groups now who insists on running no-knight when challenge mode isn't forcing them.
So can we all just admit that while it may have been more forgiving for lower levelled Guardian's, no-knight is an inferior strategy?
Also: Oryx is at the front and the door in which you enter is the back. Glad we sorted that out, too.
2 RepliesI'm curious, what is a no knight strat?
-
8 RepliesI don't think I have heard the phrase "no knight" since challenge mode came out. We have debates over whether Titans up top or in the middle is better (I can play both just fine, but if plate sitters are crap at acolyte eye control you're best up top) We have debates over 16 or 8&8 or 8,4,4 bomb strats. We have debates over whether a sunsinger should bait the Shade and res. But never over no Knight. Now that pretty much everyone is 315+ taking the Knights down is not an issue. Personally, as I run relic on both my Hunter and Warlock I am glad to not have Ogres lighting me up as I go. Running is vastly easier when you aren't being murdered half the time.
-
Now that we have sufficient light yes it's inferior, but when you are 300 sitting on a pad, it wasnt.
-
It always was a crappy messy way to do it. I never liked doing it that way. 16 orb is life
-
I do challenge strat in general. Gives more breathing room. Plus the knights are easy to snipe regardless.
-
That was a good tactic when everyone didn't have the same light as now. It was better that way but now that you can 1snipe the knights, of course is better the regular one.
-
It would only be an inferior strategy if it didn't work as well. Oryx dies just the same in both strats. I do prefer 8 and 8 but if one guy keeps dying I like to switch to no knight because its harder for platform people to die in no knight.
-
Lol at the spoiler
-
Not inferior as it gets the job done, more easy, but lengthier yes
-
Called it in the beginning
-
No knight strat was for low light noobs who need to be carried
-
If you did/still do the No Knight strat. You're a huge nerd. 8-8 strat is easy and the normal strat was simple.
-
2 RepliesI agree with you about the method. Regular is easier/better. But oryx is clearly at the back of the room when you enter
-
Who -blam!-ing cares. Kill him however you want scrub
-
4 RepliesI agree. I'm helping some newer friends with hard oryx lately and we just can't kill him, the 8 orb strat is too much for them so we'll try the no-knight tonight. I just hate how much more weight gets put on the runner with that strat
-
If you can't snipe your knight from the plate by now you are a -blam!-ing scrubb.
-
Both strategies work, so I don't see how either one of them are inferior. Me personally I prefer Knights, but if I go into a raid group that was keen for no-Knights, that's fine too. Couldn't care less.
-
Omg. Thanks, I've literally forgotten which was the back and front since I stopped doing the raid. Just challenge modes. So oryx every 3 weeks.
-
If you can't 5 man oryx challenge then gtfo
-
Let's be honest here, No Knight strategy sucked. If you didn't have a team with good coordination then it was extremely difficult to pull off. The challenge strat has far fewer chances to screw up as well.

Edited by SliWolfPack: 3/7/2016 11:37:07 AMThat's the scrub way. I did the original way from the start until now and I also quit when ppl say no knights. First thing that comes to mind, if you can't kill 1 damn knight, you must suck at raiding, that's just me though. These days I only do 8 & 8 or 16 orbs.

6 RepliesI agree, they should buff fusion rifles
-
6 RepliesAny method where you decide to leave 4 ogres roaming around instead of killing them has to be second guessed.... Did I ever do it that way? Yes, of course. It's likely we all did at least once. What is even worse was the "lets cheese the totem" crap. I not one time did that. I left groups that were gonna do it that way and found different teams. If you want to be taken seriously when searching randoms for a group please know how to accomplish the task even if it's only because you watched it on YouTube.

I still do no knight occasionally if we're carrying a lower light level or someone inexperienced, simply because no knight is a lot easier to complete when the low light inevitably dies. But with my normal group of raiders we do either 8x8 or 16 because, yeah, the knights are not hard to kill and those two strats are definitely the most effective.
-
I don't have a problem with the normal way, but my clan always did no knight before I joined them. It's faster and easier if everyone is experienced. I like the challenge mode strat, but it goes to shit if there is even a small connection issue.

3 RepliesChallenge mode strat is definitely the smoothest. That is, if the people on plates can stay awake; it's f#cking boring. I hate being on a plate for challenge mode, because I tend to get bored. Then I f#ck up the run, because my mind was wandering. If it's challenge mode, I want to be ogre control or runner.
