I bought this game when it first came out, even beta tested Destiny, and back then, light levels were not so much a priority in comparison to who had Ghorn, or who played VoG. Now, it seems that Light Levels are the most important thing in the game.
As a solo player (Both because of choice and because all of my friends decided to abandon the game), I find that it is very difficult to keep up with the "pace" of the game, for lack of better terminology. The game pretty much took some parts of an MMORPG (in my personal opinion, they are the bad parts of an MMORPG such as microtransactions and party only dungeons [Or in this case, raids]).
Though, for the second example, I have been kicked out of raids for saying "I don't do raids that often", pretty much indicating that I must be experienced to gain experience in this game. I know that raids are where you can get endgame gear, or even in the Crucible (Or "Lag Banner" in this case).
I notice that this game heavily emphasizes parties, which isn't bad at all. But, for a solo player, it's bad. MMORPGs have a Party Finding system ingame, which I notice Destiny has, but only for Strikes, where it's more mid-game gear. End-game raids do not have that option, unfortunately. The Party Finding system is one of the better things of MMORPGs, and it guarantees people will have some fun in the game they play.
Essentially. endgame gear is meant only for people who are essentially active and play with friends. I am not either of those because I juggle work and school over video games; I have let video games take a back seat in my life for now. Many of my friends have either done the same thing, or they have gone back to MMORPG's that we used to play like Old School Runescape, or even newer games like Blade and Soul (though all of us are waiting for Black Desert Online).
So, other than that long story/explanation of my situation, how does one get 300+ gear as a solo player? I notice that in Iron Banner, I tend to get between 240-270 gear only, and even then, that's extremely rare. Is there another way to actually get 300+ gear without assistance from other players?

Edited by jfg_5: 2/29/2016 6:50:09 PMFrom my personal experience (also playing solo), I focused on getting one character through iron banner, then infusing 310 exotics which I didn't need into my other gear. There's no structure to it, its literally a pointless grind unless you think its worth it. I can't see myself grinding every year for better gear, it just seems like a waste of time tbh. Edit: having said all that, I do enjoy playing.

Edited by Darches: 2/29/2016 6:42:07 PMExotics and events like Iron Banner (just TRYING can net you high light gear, unless you're really low light I'd guess). Solo doesn't mean you can't go with randoms on LFG for nightfalls. I KNOW you have working internet.

Did up to 307 without the raid/iron banner/crimson doubles/srl. It can be done. Once you get to 300 you can get the 310 exotic drops to infuse
-
Yes and no, you can get to 300 without iron banner, but after 300 you would have to use it to get gear above that really.
-
Strikes and CoO can be used to get you close. Rares and legendaries that drop from most sources max at 300. The strike playlist quest will get a 300 secondary (most pick the rangefinder conspiracy theory). Court of oryx quest gets a 300 artifact. Exotic swords are rewarded at 310. The quest is doable solo and the final strike has matchmaking. This is what got me over 300 originally. Nightfalls and the weekly crucible bounties can drop up to 310 gear but that isn't very reliable. Once u are at least 300, exotics will have a chance to decrypt to 310. These are great for infusion and some easy 310 gear. Start saving any exotic engrams you get now until u do break 300. Having that stockpile provides a quick boost. Aside from all that, the biggest piece of advice is to do events. SRL was great and dropped a ton of helmets and class items at 310-320. Crimson doubles was good. Once I heard about the guaranteed 320 ghost, it became one of the few events I found somebody for. I said no mic and just looking to screw around in the post looking for someone so it was pretty much just matchmaking. The biggest one is the iron banner though. Clash is the easiest as a solo player but control is good too. Rift was tougher but still not bad. Level advantages are minor if your 280+. On top of the end match rewards which tend to drop lower but are able to drop up to 310, the rank 3 and 5 packages will provide you a large boost. The rank 3 package contains a guaranteed 310 artifact and the rank 5 package will contain a 310 ghost and a random banner weapon or armour piece at 310-320. And once u r rank 5 on your first character, ghosts can drop at 310-320. To get rank 5 on your main, all u need to do is pick up and complete your bounties each day. Saving the gold ones to urn in until the day that you will hit rank 5 (likely Friday or Saturday). As for your alts, they are even easier, just collect the bounties each day but don't play until your main is done. Once they are done, play and complete all the bounties and turn them in. Your characters get an extra 2x multiplier on rep as long as a character is a higher rank and bounties are worth more the later in the week u r so it doesn't take much. My hunter was rank 5 after 6 games this banner. My warlock only took 4 the last time. Using all of that, my Titan is now a 314 without ever setting foot in the raid or trials and my alts are all similar if I switch my higher light weapons to them. I'll do the raid at some point probably, but haven't ever really bothered with LFG.

If ya wanna learn the raid and on xb1 hit me up. I play on ps4 but havent bothered to make friends yet.

Dedication that's it...

2 RepliesI'm a straight up solo player. Last raid I did was VOG. I broke 300 with IB and SRL.

Edited by axefriendlyfun: 2/29/2016 6:20:21 PMWarlock 315 and the other two at 311 and no raid, the hardest part was getting over 300 then it is grinding strikes iron banner with all three and trials if you can even if you just do bounties, I didn't do trials that much. I will say I play everyday for a few hours generally. So good luck. Oh yeah do the sword quests, if you need a hand with the end strike, message me and I will help out as I have all three. Iron banner us your friend! And try to concentrate on one character so they get over 300 and then grind with that one and infuse for the others until they are over 300, once over 300 exotics can drop at 310

Edited by Raider TCK: 2/29/2016 5:58:18 PM99% of raids I have done have been LFG or through the recruitment sections of the forums. And I have 130ish raid completions. It's not hard to find a team for your first raid. Nearly everyone who has done a raid, did their first raid with an LFG group. You just have to remember that the 'upper tier' of LFG has become incredibly elite now. These players, like myself, have done hard mode multiple times a week most weeks with entirely different teams. This means that the raid has become very streamlined where every single player will know every role and task and every player shares tips and tricks, so new tactics spread through the upper tier of LFG like wildfire. You can't expect groups of elite raiders who have risen to the top of LFG to carry you. Your first raid, with a group of new players would be a grind. Everyone has to slog through their first raid with a team who doesn't know what they are doing. I would suggest watching raid guides on YouTube first. I would recommend sc slayerage or Datto for raid guides.

Just do non stop PvE and PvP well using 3oC. I play solo 90% of the time and only have 3 raid completions with next to nothing from them. Yet all my characters can be 300+

Edited by Zonkerbl: 2/29/2016 5:52:15 PMIf you don't have friends to play Destiny with, quit. Play games designed for single player, you'll be happier. Destiny is really only tolerable if you are playing with friends. Unless you like crucible and then it doesn't matter what light level your gear is.
-
I only need a 310 exotic primary and then I'll be 310 without doing the raid

1 ReplyEdited by O_Town_Racer: 2/29/2016 5:49:21 PMHave 3 characters, play Iron Banner to level 5 on all of them. The level 3 drop is a 310 class item (times 3 guardians, that's 3x310 class items). Level 5 packages usually drop 300+ level weapons - again, do this on all 3 guardians for the high light weapons. Once you get to light level 300 you have a chance of exotic engrams decoding to 310 items. Equip or infuse them. Once you hit light level 311, every exotic engram decodes to 310 light. Nightfall has a chance to drop high light level items, but I've never seen them. Do all 3 exotic sword quests. That's about it if you don't raid. Also, if you're not raiding or doing challenge modes, you're missing out on some of the best content that Destiny has to offer. Just look up the videos on YouTube.

As most people have already said: iron banner. I have a 312 titan, 310 hunter, and a 309 warlock. Have never done KF (though at some point I wouldn't mind).

4 RepliesEdited by FormingWhale: 2/29/2016 4:41:53 PMIron banner and exotic sword? Oh and I don't remember if you have to do the raid but Eris gives you a high light artefact after a quest

If you are always solo no matter what, not raids or trials... then level 5 IB packages and the weekly crucible bounty are probably the only way to go i think
-
Iron banner got me to 300+ also try leveling up in factions. Got me a 299 hung jury
-
Iron Banner drops did it for me, 300 on my Titan. Got a bit lucky with a 319 Chest.
-
Solo Crota for the shader and emblem. That will earn you enough respect for most fireteams to let you do kingsfall with them
-
Iron banner, 3 of Coins, and Solo Nightfalls.
-
Iron banner
-
3 of coins and infusion will be your friend

It's not hard to be a solo player. I occasionally play with some other people but mostly by myself. Raids are out of the question but iron banner isn't a big deal. And strikes and running missions/quests. Not hard just a little less options.
