For such a miniscule event like Crimson Days, why is there no matchmaking?

I get that going into solo into a doubles playlist could go horribly if you go against a pre-made fireteam, but since they're already putting in a Freelance Mode, why not implement that mechanic early into Crimson Days? It shouldn't be that hard to make a separate playlist for solo players. I work 12 hours a day and don't have time after work to go on LFG just to find someone for a DOUBLES playlist. I just want to jump in and play. Kind of a silly request to some, I'm sure. But I can't be the only one who thinks this right? Edit: Thanks for the replies guys. As few as there are its the most I've ever gotten lol. For those who say it's meant to go in with a person you already teamed up with because it's Valentine's day, I get it, but solo players should have fun too. That's like telling everyone IRL who is single to stay home this Sunday if they don't want to meet anyone. Edit 2: Lets keep it up guys. Deej or Cozmo really needs our feedback regarding solo play style. An actual solution is needed, espcially for something that supposed to be as fun as SRL or Festival of the Lost. I keep seeing posts about Crimson Doubles being sweaty as shit already, and I haven't even played it yet lol. Edit 3: Wow over 100 replies! Thanks to everyone that is contributing to the conversation, be it for or against the topic at hand. Edit 4: Just past 200! There's a lot of good points being made, one obviously is that I'm lazy as shit and should just use an LFG website and call it a day. I sure as shit could do that, but the point is this all boils down to is that I have to leave the game in order to play it. This has been an issue since day 1. Maybe direct matchmaking for Crimson Doubles isn't the way to go, but to simply not have any way of finding people to play with in game besides messaging randoms in the tower is ridiculous. To bring it all home to the title of this post, it's a small event, and while the bounties are tied to being in a fireteam, it could have been set up way differently. How? Idk look at all the other posts people have put. Take your pick. I don't want to (or as others would call it too lazy) use something I already have to use for raids just for a small ass event. Edit 5: 100 likes and 500 replies! I'm digging it!

  • "Ok guys what's our next event going to be. We need something in February." "How about Doubles. We'll make it elimination, with a twist. Buff the rewards, bam. There's your event." "I like it. Let's go with that." "But wait... how are we going to -blam!- this up? I mean, how are we going to actively discourage our already dwindling player base from participating?" "EUREKA IVE GOT IT... NO MATCHMAKING" "Larry you're a genius. Get this man his own parking space."

      • Because is about friendship and bonds and all that stuff, so you can just ask that unknown random on the tower. Is the refer-a-friend all over again...

      • The entire concept of Crimson Days is to go with a person of your own choosing, like a 'date'. You want a blind date where your partner gets shot repeatedly and then demands you revive him/her rather than finishing up that awfully low-health Titan over there before he finishes reviving their partner? I didn't think so.

        • Especially when we don't have to go flawless. Just matchmake me so I can grind for a 320 ghost that I probably won't hit. This is not a serious event put all your thorns, TLW, and snipers in the vault too. When you switch to them mid-game in a fun mode you are simply a weak person.

The designer stated in the developer notes that it had to be a premade fireteam in order to get the bounties to work together - i.e. Player 1's actions can accomplish Player 2's bounties. I'm not sure why that is the case, but that was what they said. If true, then you could chalk this up to a "technical limitation of the engine".
As opposed to a "stupid design decision" which is often the case.
• I'm a solo player and, as such, would have obviously preferred matchmaking for this just because it makes it easier/quicker. Even though my friend's list has re-grown the past few months (initial list mostly quit, but have added new ones made through LFG or random invites), it still can be a chore to find someone to play with that wants to do what I want to do. It's just easier to jump into something that has matchmaking and play something immediately without having to invite friends, send messages, or post on some LFG site. That said, I usually can find someone from LFG quickly when trying to do "current" activities (Raid, CD, Trials, & IB). Last night, I was able to finish all my bounties for my Hunter in a little over 2 hours. It did, however, take 3 different people, as the first guy had to leave for dinner and the second had to head off to bed. The downtime between each wasn't bad, though, because whenever I posted I got a half-dozen or so invites in a matter of minutes. I've also seen a lot of people post "no mic", so if you don't like playing with a headset on, there seem to be plenty of others willing to do this event without communicating. There's no Lighthouse type trip on the line, so losing a lot just means it'll take a bit up to 3x longer to complete some of the bounties -- but you'll still get them done eventually.

          • Because Bungie has a problem with choice. Optional matchmaking is a foreign concept. Giving the players the ability to choose one way or the other. It would solve problems while creating none, using features that already exist (nothing new to configure). Same as the problems of granting choices of whether or not to bring older weapons current. They don't like giving choices. They don't understand that not everyone is the same.

          • I've always been someone that pushes match-making, but i think a much better way of doing things would be to implement clans into the game. Such as you have a roster tab, should have a clan or group tab next to that that has an active message board or activity board of some kind. You can post you want to do the raid and need 5 more. People join your fire-team and add them to party. When you're full delete the post or say it's full. LFG in the game, except it's within the group of people you play with now. No need to use your phone or computer to find a group to play with, and you still don't have to worry about getting matched with someone that you don't want to play with.

          • I played this game solo for over a year and used LFG when an activity required premade teams, and had zero issues because it was something created by the community for the community. Since last October, I've been in a clan and it completely changes the experience because you have reliable people and you enjoy playing this game with them. I have also met some awesome people via LFG who I still play with. Instead of using LFG to accomplish certain activities, try and build friendships from it. Yea there are jerks who lurk around the LFG sites, but usually they let it be known with their LFG requirements and even if I fit the requirements, I still stay away from those individuals. In regards to CD, the intent was to pair up on our own, not have Bungie do it for us. As long as they continue to let the intentions be known up front, I'm fine with that. Who knows, maybe they will start adding matchmaking to more special activities, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.
