This depressed me.....year 1 vets will remember......
So I was soloing Crota's End for some easy Motes of Light (trade radiant materials to Speaker for motes if you didn't know) and while clearing the adds after killing the Deathsinger....boom....it dropped. It was then I remembered the joy of year one. When everyone in your party freaked out at the fact that you were just smiled upon by RNGesus. Gjallarhorn, hallowed be thy name, this was one of a few highly coveted items in year one along with Ice Breaker, Hawkmoon and Vex Mythoclast. Where if you had this gun you knew you had "arrived".
There is nothing even remotely similar in year 2. Now when something drops you're like "oh neat" and most of the time not even a peep from your teammates. No one cares that you just got a Jade Rabbit or Telesto. The glamour is gone, nothing in year 2 has game changing potential like those few year 1 weapons. Some made you a god in Crucible (till they were nerfed) the others made you a wreckingball in PvE.
Even though Bungie deemed these items to powerful for mortals to wield and have left them behind in year 2 (with the exception of Hawkmoon which is now a mere shell of it's former self) they were what kept people engaged and grinding in the hopes they too would feel the warmth of RNGesus' smile themselves.
We need powerful weapons and game changers back in this game. Bring back the sizzle and spice.

In the final days of Year One, Gjallarhorn finally dropped from Nightfall....right after I bought one from Xur for each character. And RNGesus laughed..... But at least I had a flaming head ;)

1 ReplyI got my ghorn in year one the same way my second full run through crota ever. I miss year one. I miss the excitement I had when I got a exotic or when I got my fatebringer from hard mode vog. Hoping that bu give salvages what's left of year 2. Year one will be missed

I have no reason to grind either which is why I don't play anymore. I don't think they can make this game better than year 1 unless they really want to

So very true the most exciting weapons in year 2 for me were the swords and the chaperone. The raid weapons are ok but not exciting to get and the only other weapons that i really truly want are unobatainable to me because they are locked up in trials (inward lamp adept and doctrine of passing). I really miss the old days of trying to farm for the gally and the vex it was just more satisfying when they finally dropped

I got a ghorn and totally remember the joy of it...but guns like that really limited your options. Any fireteam I joined demanded I had ghorn and used. Never got to use any other exotics it feels like. I agree we need something that just wows is but it should be better it not too much better than other guns it will inevitably lead to a nerf. Another great fun. To use that reminds me of ghorn is the sleeper. Not as powerful but it's close. It's pretty fun to use and not too powerful that it overshadows other guns.

Year 2 might be a struggle for many but it forced me to start using other guns I would have never tried had the Gally stuck around. My skill with snipers and auto's increased so I guess the plan worked. I'm OK with year 2 in that regard. Too many year 1 folks were screaming for Gally only all the time and that does not make a fun experience when you are in the minority. I luckily got my Gally early year one but still always annoyed me.

4 RepliesYou are 100% correct. The only y2 exotic that is actually exotic is the Tlaloc with charged super. The fun and excitement of exotic chests is gone.

1 ReplyUgh. Year one i got 36 ghorn EXACTLY. And 17 No Land Beyonds. 2 truths. 7 thunderlords. 14 mida multitools. Which shouldve been a quest exotic. 16 dragons breaths. 1 red death. 1 Monte Carlo. 25 crests of alpha lupi. 8 black raspberries. And 1 or 2 of every other hunter exotic and 2-4 of every other exotic. And I did each exotic quest 2-3 times each. I think I did bad juju like 4 times.

True. I got more "Awe, Damn!!!!!" remarks when I got the Iron Banner ship than any exotic I have pulled in year 2. Black Spindle would be the closest thing, followed by ToM.
