Black Spindle - The In Depth Strategy That Gave 21 Guardians their Very Own

Hello there! Recently as of February 5th 2016 I ran twenty-one guardians through the Lost to Light quest and granted them all a shiny new Black Spindle with a smile on their faces :). I myself was disappointed in the amount I helped as I wanted to help everyone I could out, and will be next time Spindle is available. The Original Post Here So here is the one way I can help with my absolute best capabilities for you all who would like to help others get a Spindle, you running the mission with your fellow guardians, or just running maverick (solo). The Strategy is highly effective (proof for those who do not believe me, I have ran 21 Guardians through the mission and all have received the Spindle :)). It will be divided into separate sections including the following; •Each Room and strategy for the rooms •Factors and small mechanics to keep in mind •Overall Strategy •Emotional Factors •Suggested Factors, Weapons, and classes for your character to keep in mind So now for what I hear, A LOT. Usually its a team running the spindle and they do their job in smashing the blights down, killing ads then focusing the boss directly. Other times its a team sprinting with swords at the boss expecting to hold down the damage to complete the mission quickly. Or I have even heard there are those moments when you are one or two enemies away but NEARLY get it done and over with. Ive experienced all of these strategies and there is a major flaw with most of them, the most undermined flaw being communication and micromanaged teamwork. When doing the Spindle you NEED a plan of action for how it will go down, who shoots what and how itll all come together in the end. Ill explain here in a moment (after the basic mechanic of the mission and some suggestions to make the run much much easier on you and your teammates.) The Mechanics of the Mission: With the Black Spindle its usually not seen or known as often about the true mechanics of the mission itself. We know Blights spawn and you should kill those before all else, check. We know the final room is a spam fest of Ads, check. But here are the true and full mechanics of the mission itself as a whole. 1: The More Members on your FireTeam the more health all ads within the mission are given, this is why you can rip through thralls, or acolytes with as much ease as you usually would have. 2: Dying before getting to the actual start of the Black Spindle mission will result in a "no-go" meaning you must go to orbit and restart if you and your team wipe before getting to the Ketch. 3: The more members on your fire-team, the longer the self-revive time becomes for the Black Spindle Mission. This is shown with solo runners having 10 second self revive times and three man teams having a 20 second self revive time. Though reviving teammates for any team amount is always 10 seconds. 4: The first two rooms after entering the teleporter are not part of the Black Spindle mission directly and do not start the timer, so prepare your gear and supers here. 5: Elemental Damage is Extremely Effective for clearing Medi Ads such as pesky knights or annoying Captains. 6: Probably the main mechanic and the absolute most important mechanic is the boss room and the ads. You should NEVER go for the boss first. The reason? Every certain "checkpoint" health you knock the boss's health too spawns more blights and more ads, this process occurs four times. This is why the strategy including sword rush, two man ads one man boss and more do not work often and are very sketchy. This mechanic will be highly discussed in the official strategy below. There are four rounds of ads you must clear before the boss is alone for you to take. Two blights spawn each round and should be taken down immediately. Moving Onto Weapon Suggestions/Classes I see a lot of different strategies with different classes but here is probably the BEST layout for a solo player or a team as one. Class Types: For a titan; Run Sunbreaker, you'll be the main honcho who decimates the knights and captains floating around while taking out some smaller pesky ads in the process. For a Hunter; Run Nightstalker with the preferred perk of black hole. You will be the one taking out and locking up the tiny ads like the last room taken psions. Warlock; You'll be running a Stormcaller with the double chain perk. You will be the best and fastest way to clear out ads and are extremely useful with the sunbreaker or other storm callers within the final boss room. Weapons: For Primary Weaponry the best suggested primary weapon is the ZHalo supercell. It clears ads quickly and efficiently enough to make quite a smooth run. If no ZHalo run any Auto Rifle you have that is happy to chew up small ads quickly. For Secondary, no suggested weapon other than one person run either a solar or void shotgun and the other two or solo member run sniper. Its your choice in the end. For Heavy, Run. Machine Guns. If anyone has the Solar Sword let them be the one with the sword for clearing end boss ads and knights. But try not to have a rocket launcher. UNLESS it is a dragons breath with Napalm, then you shall be fine. Black Spindle Mission Overview Strategy/Walkthrough
https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/190444359/0/0
And there you have it! If you took all the correct steps and did this correctly and coordinated it should be super easy! Thanks for reading guardians and hope you have a good day! -Neon Edit:
I am glad some of you have great ideas for strategies, but you require and specify weapons not everyone has and this strategy is nearly universal as auto rifles or pulse rifles, snipers/shotguns, and lmgs are abundant. Not everyone has your specific weapon combo or ableness to rush the boss :).

Dont be mean :/ if someone is helping others why not do the same rather than complaining that people are getting help, you all were without the spindle or experience once, but now you have that experience so spread your knowledge and help those who need it!
• Crazy how someone takes the time to write up a strategy, and also to help people actually get the weapon, yet there are still people coming on here being rude for no reason.

Two defender Titans. One weapons, one blessing. Three touch of malice. Melt boss like the ogres on oryx. Should have 6:00 to clear room. Easy. This is the OFFICIAL way.

            • Something I noticed about Dark Drinker My teams will do the 2 Titan bubble/kill boss first. Here's what I like about the Dark Drinker 1. High ammo than other exotic swords (68) 2. Does more damage, I've tried all 3 exotics and this does more damage. 3. I use the Spin Attack and turn on the perk for more Spin Attack damage. The spin seems to deflect or stop enemy fire from the adds in the room. Also, if you get between bosses legs he keeps switching from back to forth, he gets confused. This allows you to last longer. But even with Dark drinker, like Op says killing boss first is dicey. If your fireteam is good snipers, I advise the traditional method.

              • So it is awesome that you did this and I love your strategy but I'd did my own and completed it with 2:00 minutes left on the clock
we even all died once and still were able to do it
So I was a defender with blessings (didn't have weapons yet), then we had a nightstalker with black hole, and a stormcaller. I don't know what weapons we used other than I had the NLX Shadow fast RoF scout. So basically we ran through it pretty well made sure we killed the blights immediately then worked on the main enemies. Once we got to the boss we to down all the adds and blights. Once done the nightstalker tethered and the damage began. Once the adds started spawning I popped my bubble and we all continued doing damage. (We were all using snipers) After my bubble had ended we focused on adds. Throughout this whole encounter the stormcaller used his super whenever to clear out enemies. We repeated the process again, but this time we didn't wait until the adds were killed, we waited till I had my bubble and the nightstalker had his bow. Bailey rinse and repeat. I believe it was about the beginning of the third time when the boss died. From there we killed adds and reaped the rewards.
i got the ship XD
• Op spent more time on the write up than my team did getting our spindles 6 months ago when we were sub 280 light. Now everyone is 310+ how the hell can casuals still have a problem with this? LoL Also, every time I did it we used the blitz method. Never once have I not had 3 people on the platform and I've done it at least a dozen times back when we were a considerably lower light. Guess all that's left are casuals lol

                    • Why do people say "never go for boss first"? Every time I help someone, I blitz boss and then mop up blights and adds. The last time I completed it, 2 weeks ago, I had 4:12 left.

TL;DR: 1) Kill all the things. Quickly. Zhalo + stormcaller = lightnings everywhere. 2) Once all the things are dead, kill the boss. (edit: repeat as necessary, usually x 3) (btw, you can die all you want before you enter the spindle mission. You just can't wipe)

I've been running Spindle carries for my clan and friends since it was available. My Tactic? Kill everything quickly and try not to die. You can finish with enough to time to swap players out, easier than carrying poor players through the whole mission. People's light levels are a lot higher now, makes it pretty easy. I plugged the Boss with the Sleeper Simulant this week, just for a change.

                          • Great guide. As you say, communication is absolutely key. I helped a few guardians last week and I have a few tips as well. 1. Dark Drinker is your friend... Yeah, I know the guide suggests a machine gun, but one Dark Drinker special attack can 1 hit the wizards, vandals, knights and captains, and get yellow bar centurions down to a slither of health. Plus it will 1 hit a blight. 2. ...especially paired with Ruin Wings IF Ruin Wings procs properly (it sometimes doesn't), you will have more heavy ammo than you can use. Spam that R1 button and cut through swathes of enemies with your spinning blade of void death. 3. Blights. Adds. Boss. Repeat. If you do this, it's fairly easy. The boss shouldn't be touched until all the adds are down. The boss' health drops quickly when you can all focus on him. 4. Communicate! Assume only you have seen things and tell the others. Taken down by a Vandal Sniper who only has a slither of health left? Call it out so I can throw a grenade up there. Out of heavy ammo? Tell us. Super up? Tell us. 5. Relax It's just a game. The world won't end because you don't have a gun in a video game. Remember that if you're getting nervy near the end. If it stops being fun, take a break. If you can regularly get the boss to half health, you are good enough to get the Spindle.

                          • Best strat: 1) massacre first two rooms as fast as possible 2) pop weapons and blessing bubble on boss platform. Wreck that mother fücker with swords. 3) kill blights. Kill adds. 4) get that BS and possibly sausage ship.

                          • In depth strategy to make trendy forum post: - make long post about popular raid-use gun - center subject around helping ppl to pre-empt forum hate and make strong defensive position - attach video to garner youtube hits (bonus pts) - self-bump post 15+ times to get attn to it - invite comments and discussion by default by posting on a forum - discount any other strat that disagrees with post (generates argument from argumentative community - more posts to bump topic even more) - get desired attn, trend and profit: name gets out there, help self thru helping others Good job helping ppl. Lots of time into something makes us want to be recognized for it I suppose. • What my fire team did (and we got this in the first try) was equip raze lighters and you must have all storm callers. Use any weapons up to the boss and kill blights and yellow bars first then go to smaller adds. Once you're in the boss room kill the boss with snipers and kill the blights and then pop your super with transcendence landfall and super conductor. All the psions and low level adds will die. Use raze lighter to kill the rest.

                                    • You can make it even easier due to team size mechanics and the way they don't immediately change on adding more people/where you need more people. 1. One person solos the first part and the first room. 2. Second joins while killing the adds in the corridor and comes in while in second room. 3. Third joins just as going into 3rd room, then do your strat of choice (killing boss first more viable if he has less health as they then won't spawn any more adds) 4. Profit
