Considering the relative quickness that gay marriage spread through the US, the opposition keeps calling out about how polygamy, incest, etc, will be legal next.
Polygamy [multiple wives] and polyandry [multiple husbands] isn't exactly a new idea - they've been around for centuries. Should it be legal to be married to multiple people?
Personally, I can't come up with a good argument against it. Does it create some complex legal paperwork? Yes. Do I think it's weird? Yes. Would I be in a plural marriage? Absolutely not. But I don't think it's something that should be illegal.
What do you think, and why?
It's important to note that in this context, I'm referring to consensual, legitimate relationships that are free of any sort of sexual/physical abuse, or not part of some weird cult thing. Just people who want to be married to multiple other people.

I don't see why not. Though holy hell a divorce would be super tricky with that.
-
Yes, it should be legal. What right do we have to tell consenting adults what they are allowed to do if they're not hurting anyone?
-
lol after this, incest.
-
Yes but only multiple men with one wife, gangbang marriage.
-
I don't see why it would matter, Its the tax that would be tricky
-
Sure, why not? I mean, marriage doesn't really mean anything these days. The definition really just comes down to who you're asking, so go for it - anything goes, apparently.
-
I could never do it as I don't like sharing lol, but if they're all consenting adults I don't see the problem. It would be more of a hassle, but it's not like it affects me. And to the people who say that most of those people would end up unhappy...so do quite a lot of couples

6 RepliesI think it's dishonest to the people in the relationship. I would personally never do it but I don't see a problem with it. Incest however is another matter entirely. You should not have sex with family members not only morally wrong but it will damage the gene pool. Unless they're you're 6th cousin or something like that I don't think it should be accepted

Nah. I'm not saying it's morally wrong (if everyone involved is okay with it), it would just be legal hell for the states.
-
I suppose if everyone in the marriage is okay with it, I don't have anything against it.
-
I watched an episode of a tv show about some polygamists, and it just didn't make sense to me. It just seems miserable for the women and akward/inconvenient for the guy.
-
Incest? No. Multiple people? If they're all consenting, then why not?
-
I hate the incest argument. It's harmful to offspring that's why it can't be allowed.

2 RepliesEdited by ANGRY ASIAN 500: 2/4/2016 11:13:56 PMI oppose it because it would be a legal nightmare, I can picture favoritism destroying families, And I have almost no success with women as is. Granted my experience with it is limited to borderline cults, if I did see a healthy relationship with it I might reconsider.
-
I like to think I'm pretty relaxed on the whole marriage thing. Why should I care if consenting adults choose to get married? It is none of my business and it's not hurting anyone.
-
2 RepliesGive it a few years and you'll be a villain if you say no to it.
-
If they all agree and have no problem with it, I couldn't care less.
-
Why the hell not as long as it's consensual I don't give a s*** what other people do.

2 RepliesEdited by Smarkdow: 2/4/2016 9:43:09 PMIt's not illegal, just not legally recognized. I think it'd create a mess, personally. Does everyone get tax benefits? Do they get more (or less) tax benefits compared to a marriage involving only two people? In the event of a divorce, who gets alimony? Who gets custody of children? How are assets divided? Who gets what? And so on.
