Are Pulse Rifles in the sweet spot in terms of balance?

Reviewing some weapon stats over at guardian.gg (https://guardian.gg/en/weapon-stats?platform=2&start=2015-10-29&end=2016-01-19&mode=10&activity=0) illustrated some interesting patterns regarding pulse rifles and how they are performing in Crucible. Using top kills by weapon type in Control: 1) Pulse rifles own the top three primary weapon spots and five out of the top ten since 10/29/2015. 2) Since the 2.1 re-balancing act on 12/9/2015, total pulse rifles kills dropped roughly 15% from 25% to 10% putting them behind Auto Rifles, Hand Cannons, Scout Rifles, Shotguns, and Sniper Rifles. 3) Despite this 15% drop in total number of kills since 2.1 update, pulse rifles still hold five of the top ten spots for most primary weapon kills. It appears that while the 2.1 re-balance significantly affected their total combined kills among all pulse rifles, they continue to have top standouts in the primary weapon slot. So for those still using pulse rifles, what has your experience been with them since the last update?

  • Ran pulses exclusively for about 10 months. Since the update it's not worth it anymore. Ttk is way too long.

  • That's the thing about them too, they FEEL balanced. Not too OP but good enough to use regularly, and they probably get the least complaints about where they are. Pulse rifles as of now are a good standard for Bungie to target in terms of balanced weapons

  • Lyudmilla isn't a two burst kill except against players with literally no armor. Meaning that entire archetype is worthless because any other pulse will kill faster. They're the timurs lash of pulses. Nirwin's, Villiany archetypes just feel awful to use. Fast firing feel alright. I want a grasp of Malok but I'm really not feeling like grinding the hell of omnigul for it.

    • I enjoy using my Bad Juju very much in the crucible... unfortunatly I can only take so many -blam!-ing times of getting the jump on some one.... them turning 90* and head shotting me with a sniper rifle while underfire from my bad juju.... After one time too many, I let out a sigh... press pause and switch back to stupid mida multitool for the built in high caliber rounds.

        • Of the ones I use, the Nirwen's Mercy archetype has the most noticeably damage hit (I don't use high-impact ones, so can't comment). You need to land your headshots, or it's going to take one more burst than you have time to do. Hawksaw-style pulse rifles are more or less fine; their fire rate can compensate for the damage drop; and the lowest-impact /highest-RoF pulses are monsters.

          • I find mid and low impact PRs to still perform ok but there is no reason to use high impact ones anymore. They just shoot to slow, so the mid impact do the job better. Also I feel like the Hakke PRs are not really usable anymore.

            • Pulse rifles got nerfed to the ground... The year 2 messenger cant get kills because of how slow it shoots now and because it takes an extra burst to kill... Lets face it.. No one uses a high agility guardian.. I cant even shoot my 3rd burst with a slow rate of fire pulse... And yeah i even got the perk head seeker and it sucks so bad.. Pulse rifles are not what they used to be and the range is the same as autos for those who don't know... High rate pulse still seem to get some kills but bungie screwed the slow fire rate pulse rifles and the ranges of pulse rifles as well... Hand cannons like thorn is back.. Scouts and snipers are whats good at the moment..

            • I think the high RoF ones are. My Hawksaw is pretty sweet. I lucked out and got one with a pretty nice roll too. My Red Death is struggling a bit now though.

              I can't speak for all pulse rifles, but the Grasp of Malok, Suros PDX, Hawksaw and Red Death are lethal.

              OP: Narrow your time window to just include this month. It changes things a bit. MIDA at the top. Almost all the rest are auto rifles. I still think pulse rifles are ok though. I use them almost exclusively and have no problem doing well in Crucible. You just have to engage at pulse rifle range and not get caught at auto rifle range against an auto rifle or hand canon. If anything the "bullet hoses" should be tuned down a smidge. I'd bump their TTK down slightly.

              • I think range is in a good spot. Time to kill could be brought down just a smidge and they woul be perfect. Autos and Pulse rifles could both use a little damage increase. Talking more than .004

                • High impact pulse rifles need to be fixed. They take too long to down someone. One of my Spare Change's has headseeker on it and it is trash having to hit someone with 3 slow bursts when they are moving. With the Hawksaw, you can just blast away and down someone pretty quickly even without headshots

                • Red death has turned into complete trash, I'm sorry but having to hit a sniper who is moving around erratically with around 5 to 6 shots is on acceptable, considering that it's not that difficult to get to body shots off in that amount of time. Either Red Death and a few of the other pulse rifles need to be buffed or the snipers need a serious boost in the amount of flinch that is induced from higher impact pulse rifles.
