Unlock the secrets of ODST (Glyph, canon and Egg hunting!) Renewed...

UPDATE: All traffic should be redirected to the links located at the bottom. I have stopped most work on this since others are doing a much better job. Links at the bottom. However, I will keep the information unchanged as it is a good starting point for anyone interested. Thank you, and good luck! First of all, watch this video... Might I suggest disabling its audio. ____________________________________________________________ This is a refreshed and revised version of the thread that was maintained by SeasonedVeterans. The reason this has been done is because too many people were getting stuck on the old title, and the idea of swords. Also now we have an organised and revised version of everything found. _____________________________________________________________ The following will be broken down into sections starting with a Table of Contents that will use the Ctrl+F feature of windows computers as a means to navigate through the text.
Table of Contents S.1 Opening Statement S.2 Goal of the Project S.3 Mystery of the Glyphs -S.3a What we know so far -S.3b Recording of the different Glyphs and their locations S.4 Dig Site Lamps S.5 An ODST Stonehenge S.6 Audio Logs S.7 Engineer Habits S.8 Work To Do -S.8a Glyph Documentation -S.8b Glyph Research -S.8c Lamp Light Testers/Explorers -S.8d Engineer Tracking -S.8e VISR Exploration -S.8f Free Cam Exploration -S.8g On Foot Exploration -S.8h Other S.9 Mapped Points of Interest S.10 Resources -S.10a Getting out of: Video tutorials S.11 People working towards the same goal S.12 Top Contributors
S.1 Opening Statement Any and all information may be relevant, and it is up to you to decide if it can help in anyway. I encourage all trying to help to refrain from multiple posts about different ideas discoveries etc. I obviously realise that things are learned at different times, but it makes it easier for me and others to keep track of everything if it is all together in one place. Try to be neat as well, no need for confusion on misused, forgotten or misspelled words. In the infancy stages of our findings there will be lots of field work to do. It will eventually slow down. So in conclusion help is greatly appreciated and we (as in the people working towards this goal) are asking help from you the reader to do some researching, field work, and brain storming. You can pick one or contribute in all of the above, after doing so post your results here and let us and yourself run with the ideas! Arguments for and against this are all welcome as both can be constructive. Refrain from flaming and trolling and simply making fun of other people. S.2 Goal of the Project The Bungie community has come to the conclusion that it is very possible that Bungie has created multiple Easter Eggs throughout the whole that is ODST. We have many clues towards these things including information from Bungie regarding secrets, canon to the story, and Easter Eggs. (Looking for more confirmation.[That's UK's OXM readers!]) Following the idea that there is a possibility of unlocking these different bits of information, we are taking it upon ourselves to look for multiple clues and leads to unlocking the secrets that are within the game! Whether it be simple Easter Eggs or more story into the Forerunners, on top of all of this we will have an extensive and detailed documentation of all the recordings logged along the way. S.3 Mystery of the Glyphs No doubt most of everyone has noticed the strange Glyphs that are around New Mombasa, and I wouldn't doubt that you yourself have at least simply wondered what they were all about. That is what this section is dedicated to in hopes of finding out. S.3a What we know so far We know that the ones responsible for the mysterious glyphs, or at least some of them, are the Engineers. They use these glyphs as a form of communication it seems to tell stories, the Y shapes seem to represent Forerunner ships. Currently we do not know of what the Glyphs depict, but it can be seen that these Glyphs are different looking than our typical Covenant Glyphs. Whether they mean different, similar or the same things is, so far, unknown. The large Glyphs consisting of three sections separated by a Y shaped line, can have a few different builds: They can consist of no glyphs. They can consist of these new glyphs we will dub "Engineer Glyphs." They can consist of S.I. faces, or S.I. Glyphs. A Glyph can contain up to all three of these things at any given time. There is never more than one Glyph in any of the three sections of the triad. S.3b Recording of the different Glyphs and their locations Here is where we will record all the different known Glyph types, and their appropriate Sectors. You can save the following Sector Map to use as a guide when locating and recording these Glyphs. Print it off and open it up in MS Paint, and add points like G1, G2, G3 etc. with an appropriately labelled photo of the Glyph. If the Glyph is somewhat hidden, a brief tutorial on how to find it will be necessary. I personally believe this will be the most in depth and time consuming field work and will be the most extensive work. Unique Glyph Builds: The different Glyph builds will be located in here, it will document all the different variations (At the moment this is briefly empty) Sector Map (pertaining to Glyphs) This Sector Map will be a guide to all the different Glyph locations and should eventually allow us to figure out which Glyphs disappear and where. (At the moment this is briefly empty) If requested I can post an exemplary way of labelling, recording, and documenting. You can always do your best since I will assimilate all the findings for consistency. S.4 Dig Site Lamps Dig site lamps (picture please?) are simply those lights that extend up when something approaches them, signifying that they are turning on when needed. It is unknown if these lights have any point or meaning, or are purely for aesthetic purposes. The reason for them possibly being "Dig Site" lamps is because where they have been found in Halo 3 is in underground dug out parts of the map. If they are in fact "Dig site lamps" then what exactly are they digging for? It's known that the Ark Portal isn't directly under the city, but between it and the town of Voi. Could it be possible that more is buried on our planet? Or is it simply a part of the Portal they are uncovering. Either way, it helps develop the canon of Halo for the community, and help us to realise the reason for such an excavation to be overseen personally by the Prophet of Truth. S.5 An ODST Stonehenge It's obvious that these areas interest us, they are very different than the rest of the war torn city of New Mombasa. Upon entering you feel a sort of, post-war peacefulness. A Stonehenge like structure sits in the center of a room; the room contains dead Elites and Engineers that putter about. These rooms are usually hot beds for Glyph activities. It has been reported that upon standing in the center of a Stonehenge, different music has played that had not been heard before. Confirmation in this area would help, and any recording of it would aid in figuring out any significance in the music. What exactly are they for? It is unknown at this point, but it definitely would seem like something is there. Perhaps the Engineers have set up a sort of shrine of their own, perhaps not, but only explored theories will produce answers. The answers will also most likely produce further questioning. S.6 Audio Logs It is uncertain if there is more to be learned from the Audio Logs then just that of a story of a girl. Whether it's learning more of this girl, and/or her family is uncertain, but it's quite possible that there could be more to this. Credit to VirtualCtor for bringing attention to the Audio Log Transcripts located on the Halo Wiki. Read this at your own pace community and see if anything particular stands out. Remember we have a cop in the game that has a connection to these people! S.7 Engineer Habits With ODST came the introduction of Engineers. The Engineer is a timid creature that flys about doing more of the Covenants mundance tasks. They are incredibly advanced and have the ability to fix, so far, everything. It's no doubt that you've seen the "flying bombs" that the Brutes have conscripted. It appears that they may have more of a significance then it would appear, in regard to the whole shroud covering ODST. What their significance is has yet to be realised. It has been confirmed that the Engineers flee at the arming of Snipers. It is uncertain but assumed that only the Snipers make them flee, it's possible that other power weapons do as well. When visiting Stonehenge it seems that Engineers may react when standing in the center of the Stonehenge, and that a new song has been heard to play. [Edited on 09.12.2010 5:53 PM PDT]

 •
Posted by: VIZOR37 New Info, if anyone's listening. There are two ODST's running around in New Mombasa somewhere. You know how two of the com data objects are next to or near crashed drop pods. To clarify- There's one pod with a SMG and magnum ammo nearby, along with some dead grunts (who have no guns). The second one is on a building near Alpha Site, and has an SMG near it. Now, we know that the occupants couldn't have been Dare, or Buck, or Rookie, or Dutch ,because we saw where they landed. That leaves Mickey and Romeo. Know lets look at the facts. Fact: ODST drop pods can carry two weapons only. Fact: Romeo had his sniper rifle when he dropped, and its likely that he had his pistol too. Fact:Whether Mickey had his Launcher at drop is unknown, but did have an SMG with him when you meet him. Therefore: As both pods have SMG's next to them neither can be Mickey's or Romeo's pod. This means that there are two ODST's running around in New Mombasa, one with an Automag and possible a PP, and the other with unknown weapons. I've run into random corpses in New Mombasa sometimes, and perhaps the unknow soldiers killed them? EDIT: Is anyone actually reading what I post? Well, besides one guy.
I found one of those pods in ODST, in a tall grass "garden", and wrote about that in this thread: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=45686310&postRepeater1-p=1#45745370

 • kthx. Try loading up a solo campaign mission in progress. That seems to give the slowest loading screen, which gives you the best chance to find this. Also, new discovery. In the credits, there's a little text thing in the left hand corner. It's an in-joke to Halo 3, and it says 'Message Recieved- Disable lights before leaving building'. Recoginise it anyone!?

 •
Posted by: VIZOR37 I've figured out what the secret of the loading screens where Vergil is scanning the city. Before I waste my time though, plz tell me if someone else has found this first (highly likely). Ah, stuff it. Noone's online now. Anyway, the secret is that Vergil is scanning for Master Chief. If you look down in the bottom right hand corner of the loading screen, you can see a bunch of letters and numbers. (Lol'd at the reference of the left hand side). Eventually, those letters state SIERRA117LOCLINK LINKLOST RETRY FAILED RETRY FAILED And so on and so forth before Vergil cycles through the options and starts scanning again. Now, due to the part with hte larger letters where is says 'AUTHDARE...', it is possible that Dare had Vergil looking for Chief, which may be partly why she wants to get Vergil back (becasue as we know, MC left New Mombasa around the time of the Slipspace rupture, and he probably left people confused to his whereabouts). Let me know if i've missed something. Also, i think that the 'Y' symbols have something to do with the massacre of the Elites. I've noticed that there are often the plain Y's by or near dead elites, and i think that perhaps the squids are trying to tell the story of what happened there.
That part about MC is a very good idea. I can't verify what you saw at the moment, but I'll try when I get the chane.

 •
Posted by: jedi1212
Posted by: fallofreach23 i think they reacted different to a sniper rifle because of buck's mission when romeo shot the engineer maybe they have like a collective mind like shared thoughts thats how they have the abilitie to fix well anything and after being killed by the rifle the other quickly understood that snipers bad just my thoughts on that
I have seen this before. What I mean to say is that the engineers will most definnitly learn from past experiences. I was in New Mombasa streets for my first time playing. I freaked out when I saw these two engineers for the first time in a court yard that was closed off (similar to the small "stonehenge" area), and I began to open fire at one of them with my smg. The engineer chirped and increased its internal gases making it float away. But it was flying specifically towards the other engineer, and the other alien did the same. This is a defenseive strategy I had realized. Just like how the engineer carrying the superintendent sheilded Dare's Elephant to protect dare and itself, the two engineers flew together to multiply each others sheilds to a great strength until the injured one fully healed. I also noticed that, after I left and got the Rocket Launcher to kill the engineers (I was new), I came back and the engineer I fired at earlier reacted to my prescence by simply moving as far away as possible, but not to its partner for protection. This demonstrates a trust that the aliens must have in humans that they are not truly enemies of each other, but neither engineer nor player can communicate such. At the same time, the engineer i figured was the one I hadn't fired at was floating close enough to me that i could touch it. Hope this helps.
When you reentered the room and the engineer ran away, did you have the rocket launcher equipped, or the SMG? I tested the engineers and found that if you equip a power weapon (i.e. rocket launcher, sniper rifle (I haven't tried this with a brute shot)) and point it at them, they will fly away and group together. They will also fly away if you shoot at them with an SMG or a pistol, but after a while will cease being afraid of you and will remain calm even if you point it at them. They will only run away again if you shoot them again.

 • Hummm....I remember some fo these glyphs from "The Flood" level, in Halo: CE. They were in some walls, and above a couple doors. Maby they are Forerunner glyphs? Maby the flood conatinment facility was builded by engeneers used by the Covenant?

 •
Posted by: facetious ca with the exception of the Engineer Virgil who does not appear to have an explosive device attached to him.
the reason that vergil has no explosive is because, in one of the 30 hidden transmissions (sorry i cant remember their real name) between the woman (sorry forgot her name too) and her father (his name i forgot too - he is also the guy who maintains city's AI) says that he can see about 5 engineers all surrounding 1 (vergil) and then there is an explosion, he then says that the one in the middle is still alive. he then goes on to state that the others sacrificed themselves to free vergil.

"Hitchhiker" the cop follows you, "convict" may try to kill you.
I think it's possible that that's just a reference to the ending of Halo:CE. As for the Glyph search, I'd be more than happy to help search the city with anyone who's still looking.

 • I may have found some explanation to the Y symbols here If you look under the scientific analysis section you will see it describes the 3 lagrange points where in the soloar system that the halos are, sattelites orbiting the star would have an unstable gravity. These points form a Y shape.

I have followed them correctly, but the last place that it points to, (without going in a circle) is the door exiting the glyph site, with two signs pointing back outside. Also, the car sirens are still flashing near the drop pod sight that you pop out of. Aren't they supposed to signify an audiophile nearby? But I got them all already...
