To the people who say Destiny shouldn't have Christmas because it's 700 years into the future

Christianity and Christmas have lasted for about 2009 years now (historical say Jesus was born around 6 A.D), so why should 700 years change anything? Seriously, sound better and find a smarter excuse

  • Here's an excuse for you...it's a pagan tradition that was adopted by christians to help get converts.

Maybe big organized religion fell out of style because crooks were using it for personal gain, and to manipulate the masses. In this future, maybe people have traded in big religions for individual spuritual relationships with what they call God. Maybe in this reality the world rejected classical faiths when they found the Traveller? Maybe I this reality Christmas had become a day so dominated by marketing and consuming that it lost all of its associations with religion. After the collapse there just wasn't room for it, and without the sentimental religious attachments just faded with time. Maybe in this reality Buddhism became the dominant religion? Maybe in this reality Bungie didn't want to create a world divided by religious beliefs. Instead they chose the traveller as a metaphor for all forms of religious worship? Maybe in this reality there is Christmas, but it takes place wherever your guardians call home whn you aren't logged on. Maybe in this reality Starbucks took over the world and finally won its battle against God.

  • The Mayans lasted pretty long too, simply put if the civilisation dies so would the religion, it wouldn't be too far fetched of an idea to think Christianity died since there's only one city left.

  • Put some snow in the tower, give Xûr a Santa hat, give everyone a free legendary gun that doesn't affect 90% of the player base and slap on a name like "Travelmas" or "Festival of the Traveler".

    • Because it's specific to a certain religion. That would discriminate against other faiths that do not celebrate it. And before you spout garbage, I'm Catholic, I celebrate Christmas, I'm extremely conservative and usually don't want to hear about discrimination. The difference here is that this game is played world-wide by any number of religious backgrounds.

    • Christmas did not come into existence until the 4th century prior to that it was called saturnalia and it was a widely celebrated thing it is pagan to its core and has nothing to do with the messiah in the bible.

      • I have yet to hear that one, no they likely don't do Christmas so they don't offend the bleeding hearts. The bleeding hearts aren't from over seas or other cultures but right here in the western world. That one loud red head in accounting that hides her tattoos and real hair colour, cries Nerf at every function that doesn't feel inclusive to all minorities. Even minorities we don't have. That's why we don't have Christmas decorations, we have to keep it neutral. -.-* There I vented, Merry Christmas

        • 1) Jesus was born a few years before AD. 2) Christmas is a religious celebration. Sure, others celebrate it, but there's problems with this theory. 2.1) Is that the same universe we live in? No. 2.2) do Guardians have their own "God" floating there? Yes. 2.3) if they had an actual representative "God" there, even if prior to the Travellers arrival, why would they believe in another faith? They wouldn't.

        • Christianity didn't come into existence until after Jesus' death (I'll let someone else debate the existence of his miracles). I'll throw an estimation of about 150 AD but some history book's probably got a more accurate number. Anyway, Bible has been revised many times since its inception, so maybe there's something missing in the tale. I don't trust the King James version very much, but it's the one everyone cites.

It shouldn't have Christmas because it's a video game. In pretty sure Jesus doesn't care about a cameo in a video game. I'm all for holiday events, but let's just make it a non-religious one. Edit: took out "giving a shit," don't know if that's offensive or not, but might as well change it.

                    • I guess that would work but Jesus wasn't born on Christmas and it wasn't originally a Christian holiday. So...
Jesus was not born on Christmas or anywhere near. December 25th was the pagan holiday to celebrate the sun. Then the Christians started killing the pagans and butchered the holiday
