Halo 3: ODST For PC?

It's probably way to early to ask this but is there a possibility of ODST coming to the PC if Halo 3 is eventually released to the PC? I'd like the convenience of having all the Halo games on both the Xbox 360 and the PC. I know Halo 3 hasn't been released to the PC yet but it's very likely it will. And if it is, wat about ODST? Will it be released in a similar way as a standalone game like for the 360? Or would it be like an expansion pack where you need the original game like most PC expansion packs? PS. I pre-ordered ODST and can't wait to play as Sgt. Johnson! Yes, that's the only reason why I pre-ordered.

 •
Posted by: Vexinator
Actually, Games For Windows Live gaming is free to play online now.
Sorry, my bad, I had no idea it was free now, but still, the point remains, why release two games that will cost more to market than they will make profit? Porting games can be harder than making games from scratch and someones gotta be payed for their hard work. Microsoft would have no gain in releasing two 360 games onto the PC, all they would do is devalue the two games worth on Xbox as they will no longer be 360 exclusives and lose money due to poor sales. Its hard facts like these that have lead to microsoft cancelling games such as Alan Wake for GFW...
Well in a few weeks when ODST comes out, Halo 3 will no longer be the top selling game on the 360 anymore. In fact, I don't think Halo 3 has been top selling for awhile. I think it's at the point where it doesn't make that much money anymore.

 • Heres MY thought: Halo 3 made the Xbox 360 sell like hot cakes. It created a massive boom in 360 sales. Hell, the only reason I originally bought a 360 was for Halo 3. So they probably want to keep Halo 3 a 360 exclusive to milk more 360 sales out. Alot of people want halo 3 and if they can just buy it for PC rather than buy it AND a console, they will. At least thats my take as a smart buisness owner.

Additional to that, no matter what Bungie say on the matter, Microsoft will want to maximise profit. Even if by some miracle PC users got Halo 3, I could still see ODST being sold seperatly and not as a double pack. This would result in an even LONGER wait for ODST PC. Unfortunately the plan failed. EPICALLY. That's why GFW has seen no big 360 titles ported to it since Gears. Both Gears 1 and Halo 2 had PC exclusive features and yet the sales still slumped. I would've upgraded eventually with or without Halo 2 PC so it didn't really matter.
Thats fair enough but you must realise that you represent the minority? GFW gaming is adequetly more expensive than any other gaming platform as not only do you have to pay to play online but the hardware is also more expensive, especially if you want to run a game at its best. People prefer the ease and familiarity of console gaming, and Microsoft aren't going to make Halo 3 and ODST PC just because you took the plunge and upgraded. You can hold hope if you want but it just won't happen for as long as Microsoft have any business sense.
Actually, Games For Windows Live gaming is free to play online now.

 •
Posted by: General Heed
Posted by: True Blue754 Well... it will be the same game, you will just be able to drive pelicans and do things you couldn't ordinarily do.
Why would a PC version let you drive pelicans when the xbox 360 version couldn't?
True... in fact, someone modded a pilotable longsword into The Ark with a custom reticule and everything... the Pelican has also been made pilotable as well by SligStorm (Switching the Pelican with the Hornet on The Covenant).

 •
Posted by: Fos Tis Krisis If they ever release Halo 3 on PC, ODST will probably be a downloadable expansion or something.
Well ODST is one of those expansions that don't require the original game to work. So it's most likely going to be released as a standalone disc. Plus, with the way Games For Windows Live is right now, they probably won't make ODST downloadable.

That or those stores in France purposefully sold copies early on purpose and then made up the excuse.

 • Probably not, Microsoft it seems, has stoped releasing PC versions of popular first party 360 games. And instead intends to keep them exclusives for the 360 , thereby leveraging them to the fullest extent possible. Beyond that, even if ODST/ Halo 3 were to see a PC release, Its a safe bet to say they wouldn't release as a single package. Unless that package was more expensive than your standard PC game. Or if the package came out, after both/ one of the titles had already been released seperately on the PC. Those are my thoughts anyways.

 •
Posted by: Vashkey I'm sure it'll happen some day, but only once ODST's sales start to really slow down. In other words, probably in like two years along with Halo 3. But I could be wrong.
Halo 3's sales are actually still doing pretty good for a 2 year old game. Who knows how well ODST will do. I've seen all the spoilers already but I won't say anything about it. Based on the spoilers: ***Spoiler*** Halo 3: ODST will be an awesome game!!! ***Spoiler*** That probably wasn't really a spoiler, but I just wanted to be on the safe side. So yeah, if ODST sells well, a PC port may be considered. As for Halo 3, Microsoft hasn't exactly denied or confirmed a PC port. All they said was that there are currently no plans for a pc port yet.

 • I don't know... Halo CE PC was great, but mostly because of Custom Edition and online play. Halo 3 seems like it would just be like H2 Vista... That would scare me.
