Refer a Friend is a slap in the face for Year 1 vets, hell even for TTK guardians! If you have played this for months or over a year, the chances of this being a doable quest are very low.
Hey Bungie... How about THANK A VET?
You could support at REAL cause like U.S. veterans.
You could show APPRECIATION for your customers who already bought your game. Twice.
You could do something fun and positive for your fanbase instead of EXPLOITING THEM.
Crazy concept.
EDIT: changed US to U.S. To alleviate confusion.
EDIT: This is not a post trying to stir the pot and create controversy about military or political views. It is just a suggestion for Bungie to use their power/popularity for a noble cause instead of straight money grabs.
People who want to hijack the thread just to spew anti military or anti American BS are missing the point. While it is entertaining to watch them dig their own little (a few huge) holes please leave that stuff at the door.
Thanks for the positive posts.
EDIT: Forget it. A lot of you have just used this as a place to spread your agenda of hate, disrespect and low intelligence. The idea is to use Destiny's popularity for a good cause instead of greed. Most of you can't see past the tiny details:
"Destiny is played in other countries"
"I don't like war, soldiers etc"
Fine come up with something else or just leave then. This was in no way a fully realized plan, it was an idea. People are so up in arms to shoot everything down and keep paying Bungie that they behave like jerks.
Forget I said anything. Enjoy referring a friend and filling Bungie's pockets as their unpaid marketers.
Bye.

I'm against the military vets idea. There are many worthwhile causes and as a Brit I would want one for my own country, not the U.S., probably all the non American guardians out there would want the same. How about we just thank our Destiny Vets, those who have put up with Bungies shit for long enough but still soldier on?

“A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America,” for an amount up to and including their life.” — Unknown

Wait what?

I don't see the hype about "vets" if you were drafted into the military then you should be thanked. But for ones that signed up, we'll that'd your job. You knew what you were getting yourself into. It's like thanking a mcdonalds worker for your fries. It's their job.

Edited by CreativeTim: 11/24/2015 9:13:50 PMI'm sure bungie gives to charity already .
-
You had me until I saw U.S vets..
-
They did something for the vets from year 1 when TTK dropped. Guess it is always supposed to be about us year 1/day 1 players and never about growing the player base in a game rapidly losing them to new releases? Who would have guessed that a company wants to grow its player base that is declining every day? Doesn't make good business sense I guess...
-
You realize that people play Destiny outside of the U.S. right?
-
Edited by KingLlort: 11/24/2015 9:02:04 PMThank you all to those who serve in the U.S. Military. You are the reason why Destiny can be played in English.

That sounds cool but activision won't want to donate money. They're selfish like that.
-
Bungie is funding terrorism, what do you expect?
-
Wow this thread is a maelstrom of controversy. Some people are just so...sensitive. I guess because I'm American I didn't take offense to any of this. I agree with most that the refer-a-friend thing it is a desperate move on Bungie's part and it shows the pressure that they're probably feeling as their players are leaving for other games. It's sad to see. Like I almost feel bad for them. But then I remember all the $$$ I have shoveled their way and that sadness turns to anger because they just keep asking for more and it's getting ridiculous. And they aren't saying anything to alleviate the situation. Which is just a big "screw you" sign to me.

i would like a thank a vet.... but i think its better not to sulk.. nice idea though

Destiny vets- YES. (So much better for them in the long run.) U.S. vets? No... That doesn't make sense to me. It's a global game and non-political.
-
I just want to know why the year 1 rewards are worse than the refer-a-friend rewards.
-
THANK A VET FOR EVERYONE who played yr1. That includes ps3 and xbox360
-
I AGREE! IVE BEEN PLAYING SINCE YEAR ONE. I DONT HAVE ANY FRIENDS THAT DONT ALREADY HAVE THE GAME. not fair. Not cool.
-
You could show APPRECIATION for your customers who already bought your game. Twice.
They already thanked us by restricting the number of available activities and balancing weapons worse than most P2W mobile games.
-
No. Just no
-
I may leave Destiny this Christmas for Battlefront because they don't know how to treat us y1 vets... And also could somebody tell me if Battlefront is even worth it? I've heard multiple views about it.
-
Not everyone who plays destiny is UNITED STATES VET thank the vets in county's for there service (good country's at least)
-
you lost me at u.s. veterans. too bad.
-
Thank a Vet? Americans are so blind it's scary. Real Americans (those of us who research the truth) know that spending 10 million dollars a day mindlessly bombing shit in the Middle East is a waste while Joe Vet can't get decent care after his tour is over.

Bet anyone here any amount of money that this quest gets offered for silver, coming soon destiny 2.0 paywall edition

Thanks oj for having such a good football career. Its ok that you murdered innocent people behind closed doors because nobody saw. Therefor you are still the impervious football player and class act that you once were.
