Honest Feedback on:Class items from the Speaker...and how to make class items meaningful

Pretty! But what do they DO? (Rhetorical question.) 25 motes of light for...a Legendary towel that provides no mechanical benefit to me whatsoever and won't take shader colors? Not even a faction rep flag to be set so I can at least make some progress in the game while I'm wearing it? Why is this even a thing? I don't expect a [redacted] and a pan of hot buttery biscuits, but for 25 motes these class items should provide some individual and unique benefits, even if it's just a token gesture. I'm a little puzzled as to why the class items are so blah in general. This could have been an awesome tool for character customization and playstyle expression, but instead it's just wildly over-priced cosmetic fluff, (or sadly repetitive drops from the Cryptarch) aside from the faction items. Why are we not given a full upgrade path of some kind on class items? Let us choose the special abilities we want them to grant, put the play-time in to get access to them, and make them look different depending on what we choose, let them change visually as we complete tasks and get kills. The mark on a PvE grinder should look radically different from the mark on a PvP superstar. My Titan mark could have been truly unique badge of honor, that told the history of my character and the way I play the game...instead it's basically an Amazing Technicolor Dishrag with a knife on it that I'm not even allowed to use. You should know what we've done in the game just by looking at our class items and decoding the details. Take all those buried grimoire stats and give them visual representations on our class items. How many Fallen Walker kills, zone rank, faction reps, strike completions, VoG runs, crucible medals...all of that should be visually represented on my mark (or cloak, or bond) if I inspect it. You already have all this data stored for each of us...put it to use folks, make us care about it. If you can't figure out how to represent all those data points visually, hire somebody with a degree in semiotics and get them to do it for you. (Or hire me, I'll take longer, but I'll get you there in time for the sequel :P ) Badges of rank, medals, years of service, campaign history...all these things are basic parts of a military dress uniform...take a page out of that playbook and make our class items MEAN something. If I inspect your bond, cloak, or mark, it should tell me exactly who you are, and what you've done in this universe. The Speaker should be selling bangles and patches to APPLY to your class item, and they should do something for you...not whole new items (or new skins for old items) that do nothing and cost the world.

I wonder if - now that we actually have this - you're glad you requested it. I also wonder if you're a stealth Bungle employee who posted the idea to drum up support for it before release. But even if you are, I still wonder if you're glad we have it now. I certainly am not. Now, I can no longer wear whatever class item I feel like wearing at the time without giving up Light or having the wrong perks equipped. I find myself wearing ugly class items because they have the best stats and perks, and I resent it. Plus, I have a whole new class of armor that I have to try to get good stats and perks on and a whole new class of armor to upgrade. And the worst part is that now that they've implemented it, there's no way to take it out without screwing over their players. Again. Further. I knew this was a bad idea the instant I read it. Foolishly, I assumed Bungle would also recognize that it was a bad idea. I won't make that mistake again.
