The Destiny universe's sense of time is based on the quantum mechanics theory that every option creates a seperate timeline that exists equal to our own (Shrondinger's Cat was both alive and dead, and each universal conclusion was both equal and valid).
Like a spider on a web, the Stranger and the Vex can step between them. Like parting a veil, the FWC can see between them.
The ties between these realities is the Vex network, which traps Praedyth and is a river for Osiris to pass through.
The space between these worlds, I believe, is the grand room big enough to house everything and seven blue suns. This is the homeworld of the Traveler- whatever it is.
My belief of the Awoken is this (and it contains something you forgot between the Queen and the Wolf Kell):
Every one of these universes contains different iterations of the same person.
Shrondinger's Cat was alive in one reality and dead in another, both were equally valid. If the magical powers that traverse all of these universes were to clash, along with a massive amount of energy caused by Rasputin's explosions. Then the realities, in this explosion, may have clashed in the ripples of power. Shrodinger's alive cat may have existed together with Shrodinger's dead cat.
During the pre-battle conversation between the Wolf Kell and the Queen, he calls to Awoken. Saying "I AM LORD OF WOLVES, YOU ARE AN EMPTY THING WITH TWO DEAD SOULS. THIS IS MY HOUSE. THESE ARE MY TERMS. SURRENDER AND I WILL ONLY TAKE YOUR SHIPS."
This is obviously referincing how they walk the line between Light and Dark and are made of both, but I venture to say the clash of sides is how these people, that were originally humans, came back with neon faces.
P.S. I don't know if this helps, but don't forget about Celestial Nighthawk's "Starlight is your guide. No vacuum will contain you."

Bump for great theory

Can you share your source for the 7 blue suns beyond the veil and the Travler coming from there? I'm very interested. Thank you for the Celestial Nighthawk description. It seems to imply that starlight is somehow used to escape the vacuum of space, perhaps to leave our space-time (crossing the veil). Makes sense.

Edited by Qwerty: 11/8/2015 9:14:54 PMNew thought. Most Light in the game is generated from the spark of life that guardians take by killing foes. Alpha Lupi, whether that be the Traveler's real name or the name of the place it comes from, is a star. The source of our power is a star in the Lupu grouping (meaning Alpha Wolf, which plays with the Law of the Jungle motif). What if "starlight" is light in its purest form? We use our simplistic light to more effect than the synthetic light better known as ether, but is it not the same type of thing? We shape our light in a way bounded by our understanding of the world, but a greater light has to exist.

I was extrapulating with the "in that space between" part in order for it to fit my point. I tried to emphasis the extrapulation with "I think." -Ghost Fragment: Ghosts I'll try and hunt down what says the Traveler came from there, but I'm not on wi-fi and I don't want to waste my data plan away hunting it down.
