Hi all,
Last night I decided to sit down and fix the problem where 64-bit machines with >4GB of RAM complained that you have 0 RAM. That was easy. Then when I tried to test the fix, I discovered the compat problem with the recent IE security fixes, and saw the threads here suggesting that people uninstall them.
That's no good, right?
So I put together a fix for that, too. I'd like you guys to try it out on your various systems and make sure that (a) it fixes those problems, if you had them , and (b) doesn't cause any new ones.
NOTE!!!!!!
This will *not* have any impact on gameplay. All the changes are finished happening before the MGS logo movie even plays! Every time there's a patch, there are always a few people whose internet connections happen to get flaky that day, and they assume there's a correlation. This patch won't change the game. It's your imagination. Really.
This patch is only for HaloPC, not for CE yet. If a little time passes and no one can convince me that the patch is buggy, I'll port the changes over to CE and release both.
This version will network with 1.08 in the same game, it doesn't break compat.
Try it out, reinstall your missing IE patches, and post your results here. If anyone is still running Win98SE (gasp!) let me know if it works as well as previous versions.
Thanks!

I don't know if you guys are still doing updates, but as of lately been having issues with Gametype and User Profile issues (basically anything in that the profiles folder). I would use a newly created gametype, test it and it would entirely change my username. Then I would hop out and check my profiles and the one default (Jªvª) I use is selected but the changed name is the same "Classic Sla" on the bottom. Really started noticing it after a Windows 7 Update in the past month.

I know, this is REALLY OUTDATED, but are you thinking about releasing the entire halo ce code? or make another update? maybe with open sauce? ...

I will try it out and see what I get.

Well, despite Halo moving my Yahoo! Widgets around on my desktop, no bugs to report here. However, the side-scroll text in the Internet Lobby seems to have been cut off towards the end.

Well, they have the tools to, as the 360 uses almost the same tools as windows, but they could make more money selling 360 games. Also, sawnoose is doing it as he has free time, he could be doing other things instead.

Ever since the update my server has been empty. This server is in the 97th percentile. Very popular and never empty. People are unable to enter our server through the lobby, only via direct IP. Any idea on the cause of this? Could it be an issue with our server host, Defcon? Please advise!

Well the 1.09 updates are tested for a beta for the official release. And it works on my 64-bit Vista. This might be off subject again but,I agree with Frnk and Moif. Why not throw down the fresh pizza for once and support the veterans? [Edited on 11.15.2009 10:52 PM PST]

Installed the patch on a XP 32 bit machine with no problems (other than the poor wireless at my house =P ) My girlfriend says her vista can't get through unless she joins through xfire. ...And as a fellow programmer with no offense to the modding community, but there are somethings that Sawnose won't be able to do. Because of politics, source code, and that fact that most people like to keep well paying jobs... I doubt there'll ever be support for 3rd party apps unless its from the 3rd party themselves. So while there'll be next to no help here for anything not originally included in the Halo code, normally most 3rd party developers hide on Modacity and messageboards like that. I'm a strict halo only player but I hope this helps in your search for support. =)
Posted by: TheAdept ... My buddy goemitar created the version changer for halo pc, you can download it off of his website
This worked perfectly! I didn't have to enter any console commands. I just copied the 2 dll's and the 1.08 exe to the halo dir and haloThirdFov (FOV 90) started working again! Thank you so much! Tell your buddy I love him/her! PS: I would still like to see this issue fixed officially though - hint, hint :)
Posted by: Frnksnbns
Posted by: Sub7ank Can I have a list of updates for this Patch? For example, Patch 1.08 has the following updates: * Prevents buffer overrun errors and also removes the requirement for a CD rom at startup. * Fixes for server-crashing security bugs. * Several external programs may not work, resulting to game-crashing.
I agree! Microsoft Games Studios used to put out a release with the issues addressed in the patches. It would be great to have this continued for historical purposes.
Bungie should dedicate a section for patches, rather than having topics on them. Like a link to patches, and issues solved, author, date released, etc. can Halo CE be added to Bungie's Projects? since sawnose is signing the patches with Bungie's signiture.
Posted by: Matortheeternal ...Awell. To those of you complaining about the netcode: halo has so many errors, 1 man can't fix them all. Sawnose has already said this....
and how many times must someone state the obvious? It would be great if those with spare time could support their previous games. Everyone can't always be busy, the non-busy individuals should work on other stuff, rather than eat pizza on their computers, or fall asleep on the cushy chair. lol. Tested the patch. It works perfectly on my 6gb Vista 64 computer and on my 1gb Windows XP Computer. No problems with IE. Thanks for caring about us (if that is what you are acting out of). I am slightly disappointed that this breaks the links between halo and some of the 3rd party programs I use, but that will hopefully be fixed in time. Its too bad bungie gave up on Halo 1. From my perspective, it seems to be the best out of all the halo games, and has proven itself so. Why is it that bungie can't see this fact? Awell. To those of you complaining about the netcode: halo has so many errors, 1 man can't fix them all. Sawnose has already said this. I would like to thank you for the game from a different minority of halo players who like to exploit the games flawed physics engine for fun. The stunters/glitchers of halo are happy to have this game to play in. And your interest, though much less then what we would prefer, is appreciated. Although it will never happen, it'd be really awesome in players from halo 3 and bungie devs were to move back to the game that started it all. Anyways, thanks again. Peace, Mator
Posted by: Sir Izenhime I've got one problem with this patch, I'm an admin in a frequently used Server on Halo PC, it's a racing server, and I rely a lot of SightJacker to find players who aren't actually racing. I've got the same problem as Askmagic. Upon startup, my game crashes. I've basically got the same specs as well. I start up Halo CE with Console and Windowed enabled. (Though, I tried the direct exe, and it still crashed.) A little peeved I can't get online and play; I was really planning on releasing some anger through a shotty... Though, not saying I don't appreciate the effort sawnose. Sorry if I sound ungrateful. I DO appreciate the fact you're still concerned with PC players, but I can't say I'm too proud of the current update. I'm lost as to how to be able to play PC/CE regularly without crashing...
-
Yeah...umm...IT'S NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 1.08. It was for the first 2 days, then BOOM! it's not compatible. It keeps getting stuck at "Negotiaing Connection with Server" or something when you join a game online, and if it gets through, it says the client is using an older version (1.08) than me. And when I try to pull it back to 1.08, your upload is blocking me from doing so.
-
I Agree with Btcc22, Wasnt it backwards compatible while testing? That seemed to work out fine. I can Find more games on the 1.08 Patch then I can with the 1.09 patch. Its hard to find a decent game now...
-
I have a program called haloThirdFov which I use to adjust the FOV to 90 which stopped working after the 1.09 update. Just wondering if there is a way to get it working with the new update or is there a way to prevent it from updating to 1.09? I love me some halo but I can't deal with FOV 70. TIA
-
On an unrelated topic: I LOVE you, Roger.
-
It should have been made backwards compatible. I don't see why it wasn't. The networking has changed so little (well, not at all) that any version can be made to connect to another. Oh well.

Dev Mode is one of the unique things from Halo: Combat Evolved. Some Maps Rely on this. Whether a command to spawn something,Testing,Machinima, & Fun With Friends. This new patch also split the community, Some Custom Made UI Bypasses the Auto-Update so some will be stuck in 1.08
