Unfortunately what you are asking for wouldn't really be an [i]upgrade.[/i]. If you obtain a digital version of the game, there would be nothing that would invalidate your disc.. In the end you would have two fully viable versions of the base game, allowing the disc to be sold/traded etc.
The digital version of the game, if desired, must be separately purchased. The current basic version of the game, digitally, is the Legendary edition.

Cheers for replying swiftly. So I can no longer purchase a digital copy of the standard Destiny? How would it work if I brought TTK Legendary as I've already got everything else, would it mess my account up in anyway as I really do not want to start all over again.

Can tell from experience - I have a base game, an expansion pass, a TTK digital upgrade, and then redeemed a TTK Collector's edition that contains all of the expansions over again. No issues!
