Halo 3 Rank reset.
Now as some of you may remember back in Halo 2 days bungie pulled off a couple of rank resets and put everyone back to zero, now this was to bring people together in closer ranks and help people get games faster (i think).
What i think would be a good idea if Bungie did the same again.
It would speed up MM in the lower population playlists, give people stuck on a rank the chance to start again, it would remove the point of having a second account, destroy the market for selling GT's for 50's and stop people boosting for 50.
I think it would make Halo 3 a better online game to play.

this is the truth. reset would cause all the high ranks to play against the lower ranks giving them a bad rating by consistenly loosing. then once the better players moved on, those who were lower ranks will now have a much harder time ranking up because they have already set precident that they are consistent in their game, making moves up or down harder to accomplish. read the thread to the right titled "in depth explanation of the Halo 3 skill ranking system". the higher levels will also experince the same problems once they become closer to their actual ablities. they also set a precedent for consistently winning, and will get less out of each win as time passes. this will stall the entire trueskill system and cause wide spread rank lock. read the thread carefully and you will see. do not reset the ranks. this is coming from someone fairly new to halo, but can read and comprehend. it will not succeed.

They reset the system in Halo 2 because the system kept evolving. They changed it when they altered the system and when they revamped matchmaking. They learned from that and will not be doing the same for Halo 3.

I have a couple 50s but I wouldn't mind a rank reset. I'm confident I could get them back in a couple hundred games each without much stress. I would feel bad for people like gunrunner and icedout who have a -blam!- ton of exp and like 10 50s...you can't get that back overnight.

...I have a 50 in every playlist besides squad battle, lonewolf, and the new throwback. All the skill, and teamwork, to be reset for what? Start a new account. Its not fair to the kids who try. /thread

I think they should reset the ranks to speed along matchmaking. That way people with higher ranks wouldn't have to wait for twenty minutes to get a game. Also, it'd set any boosters straight. And it'd just be funny.

NO. I spent ages getting my 5 50s and I don't want to have to go through and play SWAT and snipers again. The reason you're still a colonel is cos you're terrible, you're not ranklocked, you're just awful. Learn to play halo.

I dont see how it would stop people boosting for a 50. If your so gone-hoe about resetting your rank, make a new account. For me, it was a difficult task pulling off a 46 in lone wolves. I'm [b]NOT[/b] going through the trouble of getting it again. That's too bad if you are impatient and don't use your brain when you are searching for a game.. Sure, it takes about 5 or 6 minutes. Read a comic, or use your computer. All the MLG pros and Generals will -blam!- your @$$ when everyone is back down to rank 1. If people are stuck on a rank, that's their fault that they're not so good at the game, and i don't blame them. I'm not that great at all. The only thing that would be accomplished if the accounts were reset back to rank 1, is frustrating everyone above the rank of 45. And I've seen many posts saying that when you make an account, you lose your gamerscore and armor in Halo 3. Oh no, gamerscore! What ever shall i do now? It's like gamerscore got so much use! I could totally use gamerscore to get things! And my armor! **Gasps** I can really see it even though it is a first person shooter! new accounts have to buy maps and in a few days odst to play MM. this means a lot of money for bungie. why change it?the number of second accounts will decrease with the release of odst.

U guys dont cry.It is okay. Bungie wont look at this forum anyway. They will keep the bad people playing badly and the better ones trying to avoid the bad players from their teams. Plain and simple.

They should do a prestige thing like in COD so if you get bored of being a 50 you can start all the way back down...

It's just taken me a year to rank from Colonel to Brigadier, if it was to be reset i think i'd cry.

Should make this thread a poll, however not exactly fair to reset everyone's rank - give people the option of resetting it once they reach 5 star general

ok thing is i never cared for ranks. ive always been an achievements only and screw the rest. now that i actually want to rank up, im stuck with 1099 exp and 42 HS. i cant rank up in anything. im a 42 in lone wolves and to get from 41 to 42 i had to win 7 games in a row, which is frustrating because i lost 1 and went back to 41. if i wouldve known that it would be so difficult to rank up cuz of my xp i wouldve actually tried to rank up from the begining. i wouldnt mind the chance to reset it. although it would be totally unfair to people who've been gaming day in - day out to get their rank. This is similiar to Infinity wards's Modern Warfare's Prestige. But resetting is completely different and may be frustrating.

People haven't even maxed out their ranks yet. Ok I'm a Brig General but honestly not everyone has a Grade 4 rank yet either.

No thanks. I've played close to 8k games and matchmaking is working fine for me now. Population should increase when ODST comes out due to the new disc. Then MW2 will come out and it will drop.

id sell all my accounts right before for hundreds then make new ones level them in the new system faster than anyone and sell them again. I win.
