People hate on things that are popular. It's human nature. Sword Art Online was good too but so many people hate it.

 • Honestly I hated SAO with a burning passion

 •
Sword Art Online was good too
No, no it wasn't. It was objectively bad. Making it an HD anime didn't help the story one bit. The source material was awful and the writer is a hack. The only way SAO could've been good is if they completely gutted the original creator's story and replaced Kirito with a character that actually fails at something.

 • The irony is that Kirito actually was gutted as a character; from what I've heard, the original version of SAO was considerably different from what was published.
For example, Kirito was supposed to lose to Sinon in the qualifiers in GGo.
• What was different from the manga to the anime? Question is out of ignorance.

 • The anime is an adaption from the light novels. Before the light novels, there were SAO web novels that the series is based on but some things are changed.

 •

Two years worth of semen made a glopping noise as it flowed endlessly into Asuna

Actual quote from one of the light novels. Other than that, nothing note worthy is different. The anime is very faithful to the source material (other than the shitty erotic intercourse the was written laughably bad) and unfortunately that's the problem. The studio took no creative liberties in changing the story so we end up with a really poorly written story because....that's what the light novel was, poorly written. For God's sake, the creator of the death game forgot why he even did it in the first place, who the Hell does that?!

 • It's an opinion. Sometimes it's nice to have a character that's actually competent. I enjoyed watching the show: I grew attached to the characters and it brought forth strong emotional responses from me. There are some continuity issues that could be fixed but overall I liked it.

 •
Sometimes it's nice to have a character that's actually competent.
There's being competent, than there's being perfect. There's no sense of accomplishment in anything he does because he never fails, and as such, never grows. He's -blam!-ing Jesus, doesn't have to worry about a thing, he can defy all logic and pull a Dues Ex Machina out of his ass to save the day. There's no development in his character, it's stagnant from beginning to end.
I grew attached to the characters and it brought forth strong emotional responses from me.
It brought forth an emotional response in me too, it was anger at how such a poorly written character could be so liked followed by laughter at how bullshit the direction the story was heading every episode.

 • I'll give you the first point. Particularly the scene where he saved the little fairy seemed like a stretch to me.
