Just logged in to check out the event. Call me a cynic but after doing the initial quest and getting all of the new ones from Levante, the event seems like a thinly-veiled excuse to direct people to the cash shop by saying 'You could farm in PVE for mask parts, or you could just spend some silver and get the masks immediately!' Couple that with the number of posts I've seen where people say 'I spent $X, but never got what I wanted!', and I feel like I'm right. And the moment I realized that wearing a mask reduces your light level while still being required to do a Heroic Strike while wearing one, the desire to play completely left my body.

  • Everything said is true but most people are complaining about the skull mask which can only be bought not farmed for

  • Just put the mask on right before you finish the strike

  • Damn, I wore it the whole time. It was one of the worst strikes I have ever done and both of teammate did jack shit to help. It was the Echo Chamber strike and one of them kept tethering him when he was immune.

  • I played for a couple hours last night, and ended up with 2 legendary masks, and like 6 rare masks, without spending a dime. I was getting a full candy sack every 1 to 1.5 crucible matches (and knocked out some of those annoying crucible quest lines). I certainly wouldn't spend money on the masks... they are cosmetic only. I may spend some cash on that thriller dance though... it's so dang good.

  • That was the one thing since this went live that I wanted to spend money on and I rushed to buy it. I have been doing the thriller dance all over people.

  • I think it's fun and the tower looks really cool. My daughter is a WoW player and she says they do this every year and it's just for fun. I ran the heroic strike with a mask on and never died once. It's not that hard, plus the people with you can see you're wearing a mask to get the bounty and can be there to help. Lighten up Francis!

The key difference here is that the WoW seasonal events do not route you to the cash shop as part of the normal flow. Maybe it 's changed since they're both under Activision.

  • Of course, every month in WoW "routes you to the cash shop" since you pay a monthly fee for the game.

The seasonal events don't have tie ins to the WoW cash shop, at least not the last time I checked. Since it's Activision at the helm there too, it could very well have changed.

  • I agree. The masks don't help you in the game, have no aspect of mechanics to the game. If you want them, cool - go get some. If you want to pay for them - sweet, go for it. If you spend $40 and don't get what you want, well, that's just how things go sometimes. I don't get why everyone is so whiny about it all.

  • In my personal opinion, I believe that these days it's all about instant gratification. People want what they want and they want it now. If they don't get it, X person or company is being unfair and then they whine or complain. Or both. It's sad, really. If you want to spend real money to get something that a little time and effort will give for free, that is your call. But don't complain if you don't get it.

  • And if you want them, they're easy to farm. you can cycle through Siege of the Warmind 3 times in 5 minutes and fill a candy sack. go See Eva and then go do it again. When you get bored with that, go run a couple of 36 strikes or play a little crucible with your mask on and have fun. There's not one activity related to the Festival that you have to do for any of the game's actual play or content. Personally I haven't paid any real money to get silver and don't plan to, but I think it's cool if other people want to. I went to see the Foo Fighters a few weeks ago and I didn't buy a t-shirt. A lot of other people did, but guess what, we all saw the same performance.
