World of Warcraft honestly isn't that great...

So this week for Game Design class we have to play World of Warcraft. In its 10+ years of existence this is the first time I've ever played this game. And you know what? It's honestly not that impressive. Sure I'm only a level 9 Orc Warrior and there is a lot of stuff I won't get to see since I'm playing the trial that lets you reach level 20. Still, I've seen nothing in this game that I can't get from Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars, or one of the many free to play MMOs.

  • Problem is. Free to play MMOs rarely add substantial amounts of content in updates. And updates are few and far between. WoW hasn't been getting any patches lately, or in a timely manner. But it's still good. Put it this way. Look at FFXIV. It's the number one MMO now by subscribers. Besides WoW. They patch it every 3 months. Just one of those patches has more content than TDB and HoW combined. WoW has a story. And tons of lore. But it doesn't restrict you and try to be a single player MMO. Look at Star Wars. It's a good game. And has a good story. With full voice acting. But it lacks much content besides the substantial story. There's a reason it went free to play. As for graphics. It's old. If you went to one of the newer expansion areas they'd look quite a bit better. And again. As others said. You're Level 9. It's all about the end game. It would take you 100s of hours to even begin doing most of the content.
