First of all, I would like to make it clear that this is not a rant, I'm fully aware that this will not be incorporated into the game. This is just something I thought of and wanted to share. I would also like to point out that this idea focuses on solo-only players, therefor my idea for this type of raid would have no matchmaking or co-operative gameplay.
So, a raid built for solo players. How would it work? Well, allow me to give you a few ideas for mechanics and possible boss fights.
Let's start with the general design. Take a look at the "The Shadow Thief" strike. The main boss, Taniks, the Scarred, differs from the other strike bosses in the way that there are areas of the strike in which he appears allowing you to deal damage to him over the course of the entire strike. When you reach the end of the strike, he's at approximately 45% health on average. This would be the easiest technique to build a raid boss suitable for solo players.
Stages: Every raid in Destiny so far has "Stages". Look at Crota's End. You start in complete darkness, the path dimly lit by lanterns in the distance with little directional view. Then, you reach the next stage: the bridge. See what I'm getting at? The stages break up the break. They allow players with little time on their hands to complete a small part of the raid and return to that checkpoint the following day to gain more progress. I would use the same checkpoint system for the solo raid.
So here's my idea:
A boss (yet to be thought of) that can be damaged on a number of occasions thought the raid. Think of it as a really lengthened out version the "The Shadow Thief" strike. The raid would take several hours to get through in its entirety, with plenty of checkpoints to save your progress and come back to. Each major checkpoint, like minor boss fights, would be the local source of raid-specific loot; weapons, armour etc, with reliable drop rates. I will design a few loot items based of the in-game visuals of the current gear available, just to add to the idea.
That's all for now as I need to get back to my real life and go to work, I will be editing this post later with more content ideas. Feel free to leave any comment below, even leave some of your own ideas if you wish to make an input. I'll say it again: I'm very aware that a solo raid will not be put into the game (yet). This is just a little idea that I thought of and wanted to share.
Thanks guys, Low out.

From someone yet to run a full raid due to lack of friends with a PS4. BUMP!!

Edited by Low: 10/22/2015 12:14:39 PMI don't think people are quite getting what I'm trying to say. So, I'll explain further; Yes, it's possible to solo Crota's End. I'm talking about a raid style mission, with raid difficulty, designed more towards solo players. Think of it as a Nightfall strike that takes the same amount of time to complete as a raid. I hope this has narrowed it down for everyone.

Bumping, because I think the thought is interesting.

Read the kotaku article. They had the coolest idea for a fireteam of three doing an activity then they go through this raid like part and meet up with another fireteam or two and there's a boss they have to then work together on, it seemed like a fairly cool idea because the fire teams were left to their own devices being split up

Edited by BXR Lonestar: 10/21/2015 3:09:03 PMThey do have a raid for solo players. It's called Crota's End LOL Many video's out there on how to do it and I myself have done all the way to the death singers solo (and at only level 32; pre-HoW). [Edit] And I think the entire point of the raid is to demonstrate teamwork on a larger scale than is required in a strike, hence the "need" for 6 man fireteams and a greater emphasis on mechanics that require team work.

Didn't even need to read it.... Love the idea...
-
Would it be like a prison of elders activity you can solo all the Levels 32,34,35 or you can do it with a fireteam
-
Add e3hd, he loves talking solo raid with me and a few buddies. I won't get into specifics cause I don't want Activision leaching the ideas but you're welcome to enjoy the chat with us. Keep building on the idea

It would suck balls and be boring. Like the daily but longer

The cool thing is that they have a solo raid (Crota's End).

Great idea!
-
like ESO theres raid dungeons for groups open social and solo dungeons. ill BUMP.

Bump, it can still have the mechanics of a raid for one or even 2. I'd like to see it happen, even if it's two player raid so I can just play with my bro.

You must be talking about Crotas end?
-
It's not a raid if it is solo
-
Imagine a game that says multiplayer right on it that has people buying it and wondering why there is no solo end game...
-
Raids are team activities, plus crota can be soloed easily
-
An interesting idea. I think 3 man raids would be cool as well. Like vault of glass in size. I think it would be appropriate.
-
I really like this idea!

-
This would be perfect for my play style

It won't get added but I'll bump it
