There's no way to really become good at any FPS over a short amount of time, my first FPS was Halo Reach and my KDR started at .6 and ended at .9. You learn to react faster, where to position yourself, and what to do in a scenario over time. Ultimately you shouldn't worry about what others think in a game because you'll always get better the longer you play.
