Begin Penalizing Players that Leave PvP Matches

This is a great! Destiny should be competitive

This is good but certain things should be changed

This sounds like a bad idea but it could work

This is a very bad idea. Destiny should be casual

Rage Quitting is a major problem in competitive multiplayer games like League of Legends, Call of Duty, Halo and in our case, Destiny. It's been a year since Destiny's inception and with the arrival of The Taken King and the new questing system, rage quitting and leaving is as bad as ever with players simply leaving games if they can't get what they want done. This shouldn't be viewed as acceptable and those who decide to take part in leaving a fresh match should be disciplined accordingly with the punishment increasing in severity with each time they quit. Before I propose my idea of the punishment, I will state again that this would only be relevant for fresh matches, meaning you wouldn't be punished if you joined a late game. This is what would happen in an ideal situation... 1. First time leaving a game = 20 minute ban from all PvP activities. 2. This multiplies by 2X each time you leave a game until the weekly reset. This may seem harsh but other IP's use a version of this system and they do very well. I personally want to see Destiny on the eSports scene and this along with Trials of Osiris is another step towards making Destiny a more fun and competitive game.

  • Couple of problems with your suggestion. With the current proliferation of destiny errors and connection issues, how are you supposed to tell who actually quit, or who was Bungied. Until Bungie bothers to get actual servers for PvP, I don't feel your request is justified, and even then, I find it far too harsh. RL will interfere. I could see a 20 minute ban if it's the 3rd time in 20 minutes that a person has quit, but it is truly excessive for a single time.

  • The problem is how do you tell what's rage quitting, a parent or child calling for you(if your going to be afk it's better to leave so your team can get another more active player) or just an error code so no there shouldn't be any kind of punishment for leaving a match it's a game get over it

  • I think a better idea would be to punish people who consistently leave games. I can only play when my one year old twins are in bed, so if I'm in the middle of a game and they wake up, I'll leave so the game can get another player in instead of me being AFK and dragging the team down. So, maybe something like the 20 minute ban if you leave 3 games in the space of 40 minutes? Then further bans after that.

  • Pvp is broken your out gunned by pulse rifles or shotguns at every turn and snipers are the most op no skill object in the game. They can ban when they fix pvp until then no reason

  • You can't punish people for leaving the game--people leave for all kinds of reasons.

    • This would be acceptable if Destiny had dedicated servers without a zoo of error codes.

    • I feel that a 20 minute punishment for your FIRST QUIT is way too harsh. Halo: Reach did it quite well, with a 15 minute punishment after your third leave within an hour- after those 15 minutes are up, if you leave AGAIN within an hour you should be kicked for about 45 minutes. I do NOT think you should be punished for your FIRST LEAVE. That's a bit silly.

    • The matchmaking is not very good for PVP. I only do the daily crucible events for the legendary marks. I endure it and get my marks. I don't even care if everyone of my team leaves me. I play as good as I can and get the hell out of it :-)

    • Matchmaking should do its job correctly if someone leaves and find a player suitable to join. The problem is the people who leave either disconnect which happens alot or quit due to unknown responsibilites or because they are raging. Most of the time matchmaking doesnt kick in until the first heavy drops and when you join a match in progress you almost always quit because you spawn in at a huge disadvantage, leading you to quit as soon as you join. Banning people or even temp banning people for leaving crucible matches isn't a good idea if most quitters are due to disconnects (bad connections, huge problem in p2p) or joining late (poor matchmaking). They should however issue temp bans to people who constantly leave matches instead of finishing them, just like with strikes.

    • I would not call it rage quitting in every aspect of someone leaving. I would call it sometimes stupidity quitting because you have so many players that are playing control as an example who do not even try to capture control points. They just run around for kills - that is stupidity playing - the game is called control why should I waste my time trying to play control with a bunch of people who should really be in Clash. It is counter productive but I try to be logical about playing PVP. I would never even step foot in ToO unless someone thought they could carry me. I would not waste the time great players like that. So you act foolish - well I don't have to play with foolish I can just leave.

            • Rage Quitting is a symptom of poor matchmaking. Especially in this game...and especially in 3v3 modes where poor matches can get irretrievably lopsided very fast. Especially when you start throwing heavy ammo drops and supers into the mix. In one Skirmish match (right before ToO dropped that first week) I was in one Skirmish matched where I died 7 times in a row..and was never shot with a primary weapon. I just kept getting either shot with heavy ammo (which their side had, and mine didn't) or getting hit with supers. Bungie needs to improve the matchmaking. They are not going to be able to "punish" their way out of this situaiton...and are smart for not even opening that can of worms.

              • If they made skill base match making a reality this wouldnt be a problem. When my team consists of morons that dont know how to play the map / game mode yea im not wasting my time.

Um. Bungie has made it so that if I want to play clash, I have to leave all Control games I get put in. Not my fault they nerfed their playlists. (Their system sucks lol) I'm gonna keep leaving games, sorry :p

                • Im against penalizing ppl for quitting. Its a game, i should be able to come and go as I please. What bungie should do is have custom and private games. That would fix alot of the problem, and separate the casuals from the elites a little bit

                • How do you tell the internet drops from rage quitting? Real question, not sarcasm. I do want to penalize players who quit when raging or when they are not happy with the match. But as someone who has been dropped due to connection issues on my end as well as connection issues on Bungie's end, I don't want to penalize anyone who leaves. Just the quitters. Same goes for heroic strikes!

                • I voted, "This is a very bad idea. Destiny should be casual." I don't think Destiny should be casual necessarily but if anything I think Crucible should be casual. Not everyone uses it to play competitively. Some people are just there to practice new tactics, try out new weapons or just bang out bounties and quests. We have two other pvp modes that are competitive, Iron Banner and Trials and both have penalties for quitting. Trials grants rewards based on winning and going flawless to the lighthouse and you lose progress if you lose a match, which would happen if you rage quit out. Iron Banner only grants rep if you win so quitting carries a punishment there as well.

                  • Most people quit cause of the matchmaking, not because they suck. Also they do get punished. A loss goes down in their record
