Three of Coins was poorly executed
1. Add a cooldown, it's as simple as that. Or -
2. Limit the type of bosses exotics can drop from; let only higher leveled strike bosses have a chance to drop exotics.
3. Make them more expensive.
Bungie has openly said the drop rate is too damn high. After all, it's about the journey, not the destination. I agree with Bungie when they say you should have a story behind every exotic.
I still think TTK is wonderful, they've done such good work with this. Faith restored Bungie!
Edit: I guess they're patching this, or have already. I tried it out and only got 2 exotics from like 20 coins.
Also, people were confused as to why I care what other people do with the game, so let me elaborate. Destiny is a social game, a social experience. Other people matter; we have larger group raid activities, Crucible, Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris... All of these are activities where you interact with other players, and your experience in these activities changes based on who those players are, and what those players are using. A vast majority of people who didn't use this exploit will be left in the dust as this DLC moves forward, with Iron Banner, Trials of Osiris, Raids, etc.

I bought 45 " three of cions" I've used maybe 23 of three, so far I've gotten 4 exotics helmets one special weapons 2 exotic body, and 4 lenders feet. Just on one run I dropped five cions got 2 exotic, 1 legendary and 2 blues, and blues were high enough to infuse

The new raid was cool if not glitchy but the story missions and strikes were underwhelming. House of Wolves had a better story and decent strike, but the Prison of Elders was an epic failure and no substitute for a raid. Guys you all can't be that dumb . Bungie had planned this from the start. It is the best way to sell the dlc by giving the people top gear so they fell compelled to get it. Why else can we get lvl 40 gear and exotics without the dlc ?

Three of Coins is a great idea. It's just being abused in a way that I doubt Bungie expected. If it were only effective against strike boss ultras (or just the strike completion rewards instead of the ultra kill) it would fix the problem, in my opinion.

It's good, it's in all our interests for guardians to have good gear, makes endgame stuff easier to complete, putting less strain on the more experienced guardian. If everyone in year 1 had gally, then crota raid would of been so much easier making my life easier, I was delighted when xur sold it. So to wrap this up, shut up scrub.

You should be ENCOURAGING people to waste heir time on the exotics....they're only 280 light. If the dumb asses would wait, they will drop at 300-310 when they get their character high enough. Since infusion only give approx 80% boost, they'll never hit 310 by infusing! Farm away suckers!!!

I've used close to twenty and have had two glove engrams drop. At least I got updated ruin wings.

I've used 15 or so when I'm running strikes, not grinding. Had three exotics drop and a looper. Not too impressed by them, got upgrades for old stuff. Let people farm it out, won't hurt you any. And you can't stop all the whining they will have about lack of stuff to obtain

They did that because there RNG suuuuuck, look I'm pretty sur people will run more than 10 nightfall without any exotic drops. They will only be able to buy what Bungie want us to have ... 3 of coins increase the exotic rate drop, that good. But you are right, it's too OP. At least for player who had a lot of strange coins. Seems to drop every 4-7 coins in average when you farm for it. As may player said, it should have increase the rate depending on what you are doing. Doing a low level mission : small chance of exotic from ( but legendary one maybe ? ) Doing Strike level 36 : Slimly more chance from mission Doing Strike level 40: Good chance but not as much as nightfall Doing nightfall : High level of exotic drops For Raid I don't know in between level 40 strike and nightfall and hard raid over Nightfall. Kinda somewhat based on your light level, you are 300 and doing a 260 LL thing less chance to get an exotic than doing a 300 LL thing. BTW: I admit it, I did it and get many duplicates unfortunately. (it's my revenge on year one 8 weeks 3 characters and 0 exotics from from anywhere nightfall or raid)

1 ReplyIt's actually a great idea if you think about why they did it. Most people had well over 1000 strange coins saved and for no reason. This gave us a reason to use them again. People bought a ton of the three of coins and used all of them. This brought their coin total down to a more reasonable amount and it gives strange coins a purpose again. Not a dumb idea at all. Who cares if we get a few exotics? That's the point of playing the game.... To get the best gear.

Pushing the Templar off the ledge. That was fun. The heavy ammo glitch, shooting valus through the wall with armor piercing rounds while you were out side of the map, also pretty fun. Getting a bunch of exotics only ruins the game if you are a loot based player. For me that's hard to relate to since a couple icons on the screen seem kind of trivial. I'm all about the mechanics and the comradery

It's better than buying off xur imo. I like it, but I'm not going to waste my time farming when I could be doing quests or farming heroic strikes. I use one right before entering a boss fight. Out of 3 I've received 1 exotic engram (chest). I only bought a stack of 5 though.

It's mainly just gotten me all year 2 versions of year 1 exotics. Not very rewarding getting exotic weapons you already own, that need upgrading again (dark below all over again) and all the guns are exactly the same. Apart from Suros regime.

5 RepliesI exploited a bit, killed draksis a few times with coins. But now I just use my coins when I don't have a buff. I just keep one active at all times and play the game. It's nice when I'm with friends doing heroic strikes and at the end of the strike I get an exotic, they're all "Wtf m8". And I'm just sitting here with 50 more coins and not grinding like a chode on the inside of my pants.

I think it's a great idea. Gives an incentive to keep running strikes for the items you want. The farming method was an oversight by Bungie and they've basically said "enjoy it while it lasts". It would suck if they nerf the item rather than changing it to strikes/raids only. If people want to farm, let them. Their rush to get all the content shouldn't be any concern of yours. Hell I've used it myself and found my new wife, Jade. It gave me the boost I needed to continue my journey. I agree it's the journey, not the destination. But when the destination is offered to you on a plate, you can get a mighty hunger.
