Audio issues in Tower since Update 2.0

Hello. I've seen more than a few posts in #Help about audio cut outs occurring in the Tower (and sometimes other zones) since Update 2.0 and continuing after the release of TTK. I myself have experienced this issue in the Tower, where sometimes all music, footsteps, menu sounds, voices, etc., seem to cease, or become really, really Quiet. Whenever this occurs, taking out my Ghost has seemed to resume the audio. But I'm wondering if this is a widespread issue. Please, post here if you have experienced audio cut outs anywhere in Destiny since Update 2.0 or TTK. I had hoped that the issue would have reached Bungie's ears before the Weekly Update, but nothing on the matter was mentioned. I sincerely hope it is a bug with the game and not my TV speakers.

  • So I'm one of the poor last gen souls with a 20GB Xbox 360. I applied (and received) a 32GB usb from the activision help article. I have the digital download of the base game and so moved that to the memory stick and fired up the game and download comparability packs 5-8. With the game fired up however I noticed I was missing a lot of the sound effects; enemies and their guns were silent, my characters effort noises (jumping, hitting obstacles etc) were gone, ship noises etc. NPC voices in the tower remain, as well as boomer blasts strangely. The soundtrack is ok. I tried off/on with the console, no such luck; however, when the game initially starts before the title screen a terminal prompt type screen with 'oops something bad happened /' for a moment before continuing. I also tried uninstalling everything destiny and re installing, which did not help. I also tried moving all the game files to the usb. In all instances I had the same issues with the same oops message at start up. Help would be great, it's hard to know an attacks coming when it's always silent!

    • Just did five rounds of PoE in total silence. Well, not total. Somewhere in round 4, Variks said "or die". It's much more difficult without the audio cues. Same drop-out issue with handing in engrams, opening chests, firing weapons during strikes & patrols. Also, the PS4 controller rumble sometimes gets turned up to 11 for no apparent reason, and the vibration becomes a buggy distraction.

      • I've noticed the audio cutouts also, but I've also kind of heard the opposite. Sometimes I would decrypt something at the cryptarch and run to the bounty tracker, and rahool's voice still played at full volume, and even if I didn't talk to the cryptarch, sometimes I would still hear him.

Sometimes, when decrypting engrams, picking up post master items, taking things from the vault..or even the odd gun shot sounds don't happen. I posted this out on a Destiny Community page on Facebook and a few other people have said they have found the same issue. Please note: it doesn't happen all the time, just every now and again. Sometimes it lasts a while and other times it goes away quite quickly. I'm using the PS4.

        • Sam problem here, almost all of my sound is missing all of the time, not just in the tower. Completely unplayable at the moment.

This may or may not resolve all the audio issues on the 360, but I can unequivocally state that it will fix the issue those of you seem to have with missing audio for enemy attacks, weapon noise, damage noise, footstep cues, menu issue and the rest of the odd audio. I had to format my hard-drive to FAT32, using a data link cable and the full format option (not quick format). This was recommended to me by Microsoft Xbox Support from the chat option on the Xbox.com page, before you get too worried about somehow violating the EULA or DCMA junk. You can try just moving your Destiny saves, expansion passes, Taken King pass, and other non-Destiny data to an external USB, but I formatted after I moved the data. Then I perfomed the install steps as listed below: (Thanks to Sjef for putting this out on the forums!!)
See my topic at above URL. I am having the same problem. Never had any issues before that. I think I may have fixed it yesterday, but unfortunately , that "fix" involves re-downloading all the Compatible Packs. I too still play off the detachable 20 gig HDD on an old arcade Box. You may want to transfer all other content to external thumb drive/HDD and reserve the "old" HDD exclusively for Destiny. This is what I did. When it's empty it should just about have enough space for the entire game install AND the Compatible Packs. Here's my "Fix": # Delete the entire game from your HDD if you have the game installed from the game disc, if it's the digital version just delete. # Delete ALL the compatibility packs. # DON'T delete the Vanguard weapons pack, TTK pack and other Destiny bonuses/licenses you may have. # After that clear your cache(aka perform maintenance on your HDD) , also check if there's nothing on your drive/thumb drive left except those bonuses. # Reinstall the game FIRST from disc if you want or re-download if you have the digital version. Wait until that is finished and you can start the game. # Start the game, it should either prompt for the Compatible Pack download or start it automatically. Wait until that finishes, depending on your internet connection this may take a loooong while. # When the game is done downloading/ installing and notifies you that you can start playing connect to the character(s) you have and go to the Tower. After doing this I test drove the game for half an hour and it ran fine. Played an old mission which didn't have sound before, now it was fine. This worked for me on the Xbox 360. I don't know if this will work for the other consoles though. I think the Compatible Packs got corrupted somehow with the TTK or create some sort of conflict. If this "fix" will hold I'll see tonight, but for now the game is back to normal.
The thing that is annoying and confusing is that the digital copy of the game along with all four compatibility packs should take up more than 14.21 GB of data. I was able to install all of this onto the 13.8 GB that is allotted to me after Microsoft steals back 7 GB of that drive (that I paid $130 for back in '06)... [Edited because link was incorrect]

        • Sometimes my warlock's coat tail disappears and it looks like I'm wearing a shirt and pants. No sound when decoding engrams.

        • I've gotten it. Breaking down a gun or buying something seems to shatter the silence and resume normal sounds.

        • I've had it only in the tower. All other places it's perfect like always. 2.0 -blam!-s up in tower and reef literally 9/10 times though.

        • From my own post about this: Every time I try to play the first mission in the taken king my audio starts crashing and then the whole game crashes, I've read about other ppl having the same issue and this isn't the first time destiny has messed up for me. I have never once finished a trials of Osiris game without being kicked because my game freezes, again I found other players in the forums who had the same issue. It's the EARLY GENERATION WHITE Xbox 360's that seem to be having issues, PLEASE bungie PLEASE test your game on the earliest generation xbox 360 you can find and you'll see what I mean. This is rendering all the content I just paid for unplayable and I will have to be asking for a refund from your digital store if this issue cannot be resolved... :( which would really suck because I love this game and have been playing since day 1. When trials came out i was so excited because I'm a pvp player at heart, I'm 25 years old and I fell in love with shooters with the Halo series, I still don't like most fps series' but I knew you guys were gonna do something great when your last words were "see you starside" so many years ago.. I just want to be able to experience your game to the fullest, and im sad that I can't do that just because I can't afford an xbox one or a new console in general. I purchased the taken king this morning cause i got paid finally, and had already updated everything earlier in the week so it was just a quick unlock of the content but now, hours later, I just sit here frustrated and writing this because I can't play anything anymore, crucible or any PvE content is all unplayable as the audio starts to slowly crash until the whole game just freezes up.. :( To reiterate, Trials of Osiris has never been playable for me, it freezes between rounds EVERY time I try to play, without fault, and now it seems that the entirety of the taken king content is unplayable for me as well, and both of these issues seem to be related to the fact that I have an early generation xbox 360. Please help Bungie! I've been loyal to you for over a decade now just please help me out this once and I'll continue to love you forever lol! If necessary I can try to take a video on my phone of my game play for proof of what's happening if that will help you guys figure it out :) Yours Truly, AShadowMonk <3

          • Confirming have experienced same issue - in tower - reef - strikes - mission - was extremely bad in a L34 PoE days day post 2.0 and prior to mini patch and TTK - chronic loss of various audio elements during boss fight up to 90% of all audio elements.

I didn't notice any sound drop outs today in the Tower. Invisi-fix, or just lucky?

          • This is seriously started to annoy me. Since 2.0 it happens in the tower all the time, mostly sound effects, background ambiance seems to stay on yet effects just do not play. Prison of Elders was the only place it really got to me, I haven't noticed it in anything TTK+ but in PoE it seriously annoys me. I rely on sound a lot, we need a fix, asap. Console and set up doesn't seem to matter it's widespread.

Seems to be worst in PoE followed by tower and then reef. Audio drop outs also occur sporadically through out the rest of TTK.

            • Loads the game is now glitches on sound and PS3 they apparently boost the frame rate and it's more than the Xbox 360 or PS3 can keep up with it even 2 second crash and enemryies will move making it harder to kill them sound majorly glitches now in boss fights etc but on ps4 and Xbox one no problems with movie or game play trying to watch the first movie I got kicked 6 times I give up and just skip them now.
