Does Pokemon Go mark the end of Nintendo?

Does Pokemon Go an augmented reality smartphone game mark the end of Nintendo? (Releases 2016). Konami are all ready to jump ship, turfing out Kojima by his ear and cancelling Silent Hill, wtf were they thinking? Has the casual smartphone gaming audience increase, damaged console sales? Is this trend spelling the death to consoles allowing the PC to dominate the market? Is that why the PC market is worth more than all the console sales combined this year? What do you think?

  • Why would a second party developer making a mobile game in any way mark the end of nintendo? For one thing the 3DS is far superior to any phone when it comes to playing games (the game quality is incomparable), not only that but there will still be another regular pokemon game (as always), pokemon go is nothing more than a small spin off game (not the first time game freak has made one of those). The entire idea that game freak making a mobile off shoot game would kill nintendo makes no sense. The only thing that will kill nintendo is nintendo itself.

    • How embarrassing would it be if a cute girl at your school asked what you were doing walking around town with your phone held up like an idiot? I'd have to move schools.

What? No Nintendo is fine and them entering the mobile market right now will benefit them with some extra bucks. Hell now they are giving me a reason to get their mobile games like Pokemon Go (you can still play it without paying microtransactions). Pokemon Go looks fun as hell Konami on the other hand can go straight to hell with EA and Activision.

        • There is no comparison between Nintendo entering the mobile market and Konami giving the finger to all their fans on console.

                • Well honestly I think it could be great or horrible for Nintendo 1 the app is free so if they don't microtransaction Everything but it still be playable then it could be a great move but I could see them do oh your out of pokeballs would you like to buy 10 for $5 but get 1 free premier ball or wait 24 hrs to generate one 2 this I'm not 100% sure you have to buy it but they have hardware called Pokemon go plus it connects to your Bluetooth and alerts you to events near by Pokemon and other things that could cost a good amount of money if your forced to buy it 3 if you look at the newest trailer at the end or the pictures they posted the game itself looks like a normal Pokemon game on 3ds so it wouldn't be to big of adjustment for fans of the series at least from what I seen So really In my view its thin line between great success or complete failure

                • Nah I don't think it's the end of Nintendo but it's possible that their mobile division will explode. It has a lot of potential. Makes sense for them honestly to pull out whether I like it or not. They were making more money in other divisions and I believe the CEO is one of the groups that are pushing for legalizing gambling in Japan so it would make sense it switch from gaming to pachinko. Not really except for Japan. Console sales are down significantly across the board for all consoles sold there. Mobile is a huge industry in Japan and it will continue to dominate there. Nah consoles will still have a place even if the numbers shift more to PC. Convince, or the illusion of convince, sells.

                • Nintendo is just entering the mobile market, no need for a sweeping generalization for a company thats been around for a long time. Wish they didnt use pokemon though.

                  1. I don't think it marks the end of Nintendo, but rather it's just them finally capitalizing on what's a fast growing market, especially in Japan. As poorly as the WiiU has sold, I'm not surprised they want to make some money back on their IPs, especially in their home market where mobile gaming is huge. 2. -blam!- Konami. They were thinking about the easiest way to make money with the least amount of investment and lowest risk. I think it's safe to say Konami is done when it comes to making games on platforms other than mobile. 3. I wouldn't say it's damaged console sales. Last I'd read this generation of consoles are selling remarkably well. 4. I don't think the console market is dying. The thing about PCs is that all sorts of people own them; schools and universities use them, parents use them for basic things like online shopping and facebook, people use them for gaming, and many businesses use them. In an age where computers are used more than ever, it only makes sense that PCs would have a larger market worth than consoles. We also need to take into account that consoles aren't as popular in many countries in Asia, where mobile gaming and PC gaming really is beginning to dominate gaming.

                  • I know it's not the question, but I want that Pokemon app so much. x.x But then I would be sad.. Because I can't drive, so I couldn't scour the world for my favorite Pokemon, unless they were relatively close. u.u As for the question.. I don't think so. No matter how amazing PC & mobile games get, I think consoles will always have a huge audience. It's just how some people (myself included) prefer to play. Now, yes, you could hook up your TV and computer, and hook up the controller to your PC, but I don't think it would give you the same feel as playing on a console. Then again, I'm weird..

                  • Nintendo knows how to run a business. It's been around longer than time itself. I don't see a total end to Nintendo through this. I see them expanding a newer market. Also, I do think the fact that casual phone games that people use microtransactions in has changed the aim of a lot of companies. Like you mentioned, Konami ditched one of the greatest creative minds they could ever dream of to pursue mobile gaming.
I really hope Kojima continues developing games. An all out bidding war between publishers should be going for his next project. Kojima understands the industry and gamers better than anyone else right now in the industry. He always delivers.
