Are strikes with people AFK a problem and does it need to be adressed by Bungie.

I agree that Bungie needs to deal with inactive players.

Everybody has come across one of these players during a strike, you enter a strike and you start running towards the first objective but you notice that at least one person from your fireteam isn't doing anything. Yeah we're dealing with someone who is AFK and just want to be a leech. Basically people are like to enter a strike, watch tv and enjoy the reqards afterwards when about 15 minutes have passed. Some even take measures to not be disconnected for standing still for to long by holding their thumbstick in an angle so they start walking. I don't mind having one person leave as a new person can join halfway the strike, the thing I'm personally anoyed by are these leeches. Bungie needs to think of something that will deal with these people such as adding a rule that will make that person actively take part in the strike. Rules such as: 1st rule: You need to be inside the boss room at the end within a certain amount of time when 1 or both other fireteam members enter this room or you will be kicked. Basically like adding a 6 minute timer when the first person enters and change it to 3 minutes when the second person enters the room. 2nd rule: You need to do at least x amount of damage in the strike or you won't receive any rewards. (People who enter midgame have to do less amount of damage). Everyone should be able to achieve this certain amount of damage even if they've never gotten a kill in that strike. As a part of the fireteam you need to be doing your part by adsisiting the other two guardians. Some people may say that deaths will decrease the possibility to achieve that score since you're out of the game, but then that means you're not actively taking part in your fire team and merely acting as a lone wolf. It's the risk you take. I hope I get positive reactions and that people agree that Bungie needs to deal with this.

    • This is all I have to say. I'll do a strike by myself . if people sit there and do nothing it doesn't bother me. It just makes the strike take longer. People may just be reaping the benefits but if you helped, it would take alot less time for the same rewards. Plus it does eventually kick you if you are not doing anything for a set amount of time.

        • I was doing the heroic weekly yesterday and this Titan would move with us then hide in a corner where the enemy couldn't get to him and stayed inactive until we get to the next wave. Then when we get to omingul he would go and hide in the little room across from her and just sit there. Then he died from the splash damage and I refused to revive him. After I defeated omingul, I went up to his ghost and t- bag it and reported him for inactivity.

          • A kick to Orbit should happen when - someone doesn't move for 2minutes. - someone doesn't kill anything in a darkness after a maximum of 5minutes.

            • You have to wonder why match making wasn't implemented as OPTIONAL???? Bungie used to know how to do it.... If it really is that bad, why isn't there ever any listings on lfg to do weekly heroics? I've had afk players matched with me, kit is annoying and Bungie should deal with it like Forza, if you aren't doing enough you get punted back to lobby and no rewards. If you are really playing it isn't a problem, an accidental boot every now and then wouldn't be that big of a deal and would surely discourage afk.

                • Sometimes between matches id run downstairs to grab chips and a drink and my team is in the next area by the time I'm back. I'd agree with if they're leeching till the boss but the strikes for me are easy enough to beat solo and sometimes maybe they had to go take an urgent poop (happens to all of us) or any restroom/food stop. I usually pull the highest stats or at least when I was on PS3 since I was usually the highest level. Now I feel useless when I'm in a match with higher level players and feel carried. And as far as lone wolf. I was always the nominated "DND" (do not die) player so we wouldn't start a boss over unless it was nightfall. Anyways I agree that AFK players suck but only if they are AFK to leech

                    • Both rules seem pretty spot on, but may I provide counter reasons to both? In concerns to rule one, while it might seem like it would work with AFK'ers, it actually would, the problem lies with fireteams that want to run through everything at super speed. It might leave some people behind and they could possibly get kicked because they were to slow. Or if you have that one gungho person who runs ahead while you and your friend stay behind. Pretty much the same thing with rule one here for rule two. The speed runners. At the end of the strike, if you ran through 75% of the strike, you miss out on a lot of potential damage done. If there is a baseline, and you don't meet it because you ran through everything, no rewards. It would force more and more people to kill everything in sight, which would also lead to greed and people hogging everything to themselves to avoid not doing damage. See the overlying problem? It's not really that those rules won't work because in normal fireteam situations where you work together, they will work perfectly with AFK'ers. But when you mix speed runners and people that like to take it slow or even new folks learning for the first time, it will cause issues with them. Maybe if we used check points. Like, lets say all fireteam members need to pass a check point before continuing on? AFK'ers won't be able to get rewards due to not being able to progress. I know this will cause havoc with the non AFK'ers complaining that they can't move forward because of them. I feel the easiest solution would be to just be able to vote for a kick. If one person is afk, people can vote on kicking that person.

                    • I'm not sure there's really anything Bungie can do because I've run across quite a few people who keep moving up and then hiding. I'll finish the strike with 120 kills, they'll have 6. The only actual solution is to make doing that a waste of people's time. For instance, Bungie could introduce minimum scores players must reach in order to be eligible for a strike reward. The minimum would be something like at least 1/3 of the 1st place score. So if I finish 1st and get 120 kills, you'd have to get at least 40 kills to qualify for a reward; go AFK or just move up and hide and only get 10-15 kills, you'd get absolutely nothing.

                      • How to fix: Can't move to the area unless full Fireteam is there. Are you first and the others behind? Your fault, you ran ahead instead of assisting. Worried you'll be waiting forever? Not with a 1 minute timer for movement or 3 minutes of same press held. Fixed. Does this still suck for you? Find a Fireteam to do it with, or put up. Can't have it both ways.

                        Its become much more common now that dragon strikes give out much better loot much more frequently and it drives me mad. I only do strikes for the Hopscotch Pilgrim now so I just want to get them done ASAP, and having one guy AFK can add a considerable amount of time to how long it takes to complete one, especially for longer boss fights like Phogoth. To start with they need to make the AFK timer for strikes the same as it is for crucible, where you get kicked within minutes of going AFK. That still wouldn't deal with the ones who actively try to be afk by occasionally moving the controller and even if your in the boss room it doesn't mean your actively contributing. Plenty of people just go and hide in a corner. They just need some way of actively monitoring what people are doing. Like, if both people report a third for inactivity a piece of software activates to check the movement/actions of what they're doing and if it looks suspicious they get kicked. It needs to be accurate though. I've had people message me complaining that I'm AFK when I took two minutes out to roll a cigarette!

                        • I'm at the point now where I stopped giving a shit, I'll report them then do the rest of the strike, not like they're hard to do. Honestly, I wish there was an option for matchmaking so you could just choose to go solo on the strikes.
