Hey guys I was really confused about how the levelling system is going to be too and so did many of my friends but yeah this video really sums it up
It goes through what we know about the system, how it's going to be implemented, how the light level is going to play its part and how the old raids are going to be once the dlc drops and the levels change
Hope this helps you guys too
What do you guys think about the new level system?
Deej just loves playing games with us
Edit: light is no longer a "level" it's a stat

The armor we have that makes us level 34 contains a total of 168 Light. Deej's statements suggest that when we start TTK most of us will be xp level 34 with a total of 168 Light. We will need to grind xp to hit level 40 and accumulate more gear with higher light values along the way in order to handle the increasing difficulty of the story missions and quests. I believe what they mean when they say you can use your current gear to level up new gear of the same type is this: Say you get a new helmet from a TTK mission with a total of 42 Light, you can take one of your old helmets and use it to "augment" the Light value of your new helmet. So instead of having 2 helmets with 42 Light a piece, you now have 1 helmet with a value of 84. (This is just an example since we don't know what the augment rate will be, I doubt it will be 100%. It will probably be more like 25-50%, if that). This is speculation of course but I think it makes a bit more sense than what your video states.

2 RepliesI was under the impression that light was replacing the damage and armour stat. For example, your gun will no longer have a damage stat of 365, but maybe be replaced by a light stat. This would work the same too, so doing a level 35 arena with a 300 damage gun wouldn't be as effective as using a 365 damage gun, hence determining the content you would be able to effectively take part in.

2 RepliesWrong wrong wrong wrong, so wrong

4 RepliesIt's going to be like it was in the beta

1 ReplyHow is it confusing? You play the game and get xp with levels you up instead of light.. Like any other fps..
-
1 ReplyI think by them (bungie) tap dancing around the whole level subject; we will start at our current level, meaning 20. They never specified what that meant, but if you take it literally, we're all level 20. If TTK is supposed to be the second half of a full game, then another 20 levels to grind makes sense. Why not? Our armor will still be light level 34, and will only go up with each light increase, but our xp level will raise with xp. All the people who think they will be xp level 34 will have a rude awakening. I could be wrong though, and the only way to find out is in september. Who really wants to spend time leveling up through 6 levels of xp, when we can go through 20 more levels? The latter sounds more enjoyable and worth the money.

2 RepliesThere is no light level. Light is a measuring tool for doing certain activities.
-
3 RepliesThat video was literally 4 minutes of saying "light" "level" "20" and "34"
-
1 ReplyFrom all the comments it looks like they made it more confusing
-
2 RepliesAnd then there is the boost. He said everyone will get it. Some ppl think ir will only take u to lvl 20, but I'm hoping it will still benefit you if you are already lvl 20 not including armor
-
7 RepliesMy understanding is that you have the main XP level which will take you to 40, then you have your Light Value which indicates the overall strength of your armor and weapons. So say you're level 40, but you're only using Year One gear or TTK greens, your level will be high but because your light level will be lower than someone using TTK legendaries you wont be as strong as them. So basically, your light value is now your relative combat effectiveness.
-
3 RepliesLight is currently just a Stat as well, we're all level 20
-
1 ReplySeems like the level 20-40 business is kind of pointless. If you still require your light level to be up to do end game content, why bother with the regular levels? Can you say NEW GRIND?
-
8 RepliesHe said we start at 20. They already said if you are 34 you will be level 34 when you start Taken King. You will then go from 34-40, that is basically what Bungie said. This guy is speculating pure and simple. If it winds up that we are all being reset to level 20 when they said we'd keep our current level in Taken King they will get so much bad press. Surely they wouldn't be that dumb.

3 RepliesHow can a video that explains anything leave so much doubt and unanswered questions? Bungie PR is run by amateurs. I was hoping to learn more. Definitely saving my money for now. That was the only useful takeaway I got. Thanks for posting nothing substantial!

1 ReplyEdited by OCH04: 8/13/2015 4:48:36 PMDude this kid in the video is an idiot. Game informer does an interview where DEEJ explicitly states that the HIGHEST LEVEL you've reached is the same level that you start at in the Taken King. After that (I'll start at 34- as will most if not all of yall) you rank up to level 40 by gaining experience (through killing, bounties, other normally fun shooting things) Light is not going away, it is just going to have a different effect on our armor and guardian. People are still posting that trading is coming! Trading is coming! Getting people overhyped for shit that isn't true. And then those people that fell for the stupid trolls shit take their anger out on bungie/Deej/cozmo WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEARN THE FORUMS ARE NOT A VIABLE PLACE FOR NEW INFORMATION UNLESS ITS SOURCED MATERIAL?! Go pick up the article/magazine at GameStop for [7?] Bucks

1 ReplyJust like any basic MMO when there is an expansion...
-
2 RepliesTL;DW Basically a bunch of speculation.
-
6 RepliesBad video, sorry but you seem to be unsure about what's actually going to happen. Think we all need to wait for the twitch streams where they will actually explain things fully.
-
3 RepliesWe better be able to play the damn story straight through unlike that vanilla shit were you had to stop 1/3 and do bounties and shit smh
-
14 RepliesMax level should be 50 or 60 to me 40 is too low for a "expansion"
-
8 RepliesSo, if we level up through XP to 40.. What is the highest Light level?
-
1 ReplyThat seems more confusing! So now, we will gain levels through XP, but will still need to rely on light levels in order to strengthen our characters. So long story short we will once again be limited by RNG?
-
1 ReplyOf course we won't know for sure until they get around to the reveal stream, but I'd put money down that the guy in the video is wrong about what DeeJ meant when he described this.
