How many of you had this feeling today?

I have been a day one player with 3 34's and most of the exotics.... Reading through the articles and finding out that many of our weapons that we grinded hours for will not continue with us made me realize that I have to break my destiny addiction. Don't get me wrong. I loved every minute of this last year and consider destiny one of the greatest games of my 40 year life. I will still buy TTK and I will probably play through it once and experience everything. I've loved every minute of destiny but today I've come to realize after a year of being addicted to this game that chasing that elusive weapon is really pointless in the grand scheme of things...it will be replaced by another soon and will be long forgotten. Its my own fault. I should have seen it coming. I should be playing this game to enjoy it rather than chase loot. I have been getting nervous with the new games like Fallout 4 and Star Wars...I tell myself I want to play them but I cant fall behind in Destiny.... Hit every nightfall...chase the missing raid gear....I still need to beat Skolas. Today I feel like I can breathe. Destiny has engulfed my gaming life too much. Who else feels like they are addicted to chasing loot, and this news breaks that addiction? Edit 1: thanks for the replies...I too think TTK looks great and will buy it along with every other destiny content. I just think I came to the realization that I will be grindind chasing a different gun for 10 years if I don't put a filter on how much I'm playing. I dont even blame Bungie. I blame myself. The only other game I was this addicted to was skyrim...but there was an end in sight there....there is no end here. Chase loot....new loot...chase loot...new loot. I have to make myself not worry about the weapons I dont have, and it will be tough.

  • Welcome to every MMO ever. A lot of people have been saying "why did I even play year 1 if my gear will be obsolete?". You played year 1 to play the game while this gear (the gear you are worshiping for some reason) was relevant. You played year one to beat the raids for the first time with your friends while they were relevant. This is something new players will never be able to do, they missed out, you didn't. I couldn't be happier that all the old legendary gear is going away. The weapons were getting stagnant, and now I will have gear to chase again. I do however think that from now until September 15th is a great time to take a break from Destiny. Now is a good time to go catch up on the other games you have been neglecting and make the TTK release all the more exciting for you. Your world is going to keep spinning, even without your old favorite weapons. You are going to find new favorite weapons just as awesome as Fatebringer or Vision of Confluence, if not better. If knowing that your Fatebringer is getting left behind really ruins your life (like many of you are making it seem like) then maybe Destiny isn't a game for you. I bid you farewell, the door is on your left. For those of you that remain, I can't wait to see you on the front lines storming the Dreadnaught by your side.

    • Feel exactly the same dude. 42 year old gamer here, daily player since day one. Not played since news of TTK, as you say it all suddenly seems totally pointless. I will buy TTK, but only because I play with my son, but will almost deffo be last money they have from me tho...

      • I bet you they allow you to ascend your raid weapons and armor. If not why would any "taken kids play" VoG or Crota if the loot is garbage

      • That's the problem so many people are chancing loot instead of just having fun playing the game. So many threads saying " I'm quitting destiny because I haven't got..,. " it's silly.

        • This game is an addiction, the constant worry your missing out on something if your not playing. I took two months off from it and never look at it the same way now, when I do play it I actually enjoy it rather than feel I have to play

        • hmm agree and disagree! I want to have the feeling of getting one of the rarerst guns on the game again! A couple of days ago i was doing hard crota with my raid team, one of which doesnt have the Ghorn, he finally got it when we killed crota and everyone went mad and screamed, i think we were all happier when he got it than when we got it ourselves! If we keep bringing through the guns (i know you can bring through exotics) you wont get moments like this!

        • This is not my post. This comes from someone else called zI INFINITY Iz. He gets the idea.
Let me explain something If you are worried that "what you grind for now gets replaced in the future", wait for Year 10 and start playing. The idea is this. Each year you should have fun playing the game, obtaining the best weapons everybody hunts and using them while they are relevant. You may get lucky and get that Taken King exotic faster then anybody else. You enjoy being a snowflake for a while, but at the end of Year 2 everybody has it. Then it starts again and you get the chance to be a snowflake again. How cool was it when you got Black Hammer? People were jealous of you, you were valuable if you had one at the beginning of TDB. Remember when you got Gjallarhorn for the first time? Yeah, that was awesome. In Year 2, you can basically experience these moments again, because we leave old stuff behind and boost the value of new stuff. In the end, what's the fun if everybody is way to comfortable with the current arsenal of weapons. In Year 2, we get thrown back into the deep, needing to hunt new weapons and armor. You saw how boring House of Wolves became, because everybody was already done (weapon wise) on launch day. Just ascend your old weapons and that's it. If you can't see the reasoning behind Bungie's decision, wait 8 more years and start playing when Year 10 starts. Because that makes a lot of sense.
I feel the same way I have every exotic except the ram, queen bow, and dregs. I don't think I have it in me to collect a whole new bunch of exotics. NHL 16 brought back the eashl, and in playing the beta, it seems really good. I won't have to worry about not playing the game for a week, like i did with destiny. Not that I don't think destiny is an awesome game, but I don't think I can go through another gear grind for year 2 items.

You're not along many I play with have stopped playing because they have all exotics and everything else will be worthless. No point doing raids or poe or anything. Alot who have quit probably will move on. I'm seriously thinking of pulling the plug. Especially if friends do then I'm out for sure. I don't believe the TTK hype anyways. Everything they have done looks great then is a disappointment when you actually play it. Both dlcs were pretty lackluster and I don't think bungie will miraculously change the way they do things. They lie to our faces all the time, no one should believe a word they say anymore. I'm getting really fed up with the nerfs and buffs when only a small percentage of people cry about things. If any weapon is actually good in TTK it's just a matter of time before someone screams nerf and the whole class of weapons will be junk.

            • Bump, I agree with everything. Won't be buying ttk as I feel I'm almost done with this game. Chasing every raid, iron banner, trials, poe and exotic weapon only for them to now be nerfed makes me feel pretty hollow. No point in buying ttk, I may as well wait for the next few dlcs and get them all at a better deal and get the most current weapons then.

            • I'm a Gun collector. I grinded and reforge grinded for the perfect guns that fit me and that i enjoy. They basically just said, "-blam!- all your hard work, now buy TTK and start over". I don't plan on it. Taking my hard earned guns... *spit*

                • 3 34s no clan, got all exotics except for 3. ( dregs, sga, and infinity) I'm the best filthy casual out here! I never spent more time than I needed to for a weapon except for gjallarhorn but everyone has to go through that. My point is never waste an unnecessary amount of time for anything in this game. It all comes eventually.

                  • BUMP. I'm not buying TTK but destiny has been a good ride and I have fantastic memories and made some good friends. I will remember it for things like the loot cave, cheesing the Templar, forever 29, vanilla weapons, getting my first gally and going flawless. I will still venture into the odd crucible match and you might see me in Patrol with all my old gear

                    • Sure, I'm addicted, but not to the loot. I don't even care about doing the Nightfall anymore. The only time I do raids is when I try to two-man Crota. I've been patrolling a lot more lately, and exploring the planets. They really are beautiful. I think the thing that broke my RNG loot addiction was getting my Gjallarhorn, the last RNG exotic I needed. I only need Pocket Infinity, Super Good Advice, Necrochasm, and Dreg's Promise now. I couldn't care less about Dreg's Promise and Necrochasm, and I know the other two will just happen in time. Now, I've been looking at the collection I've amassed, and I've started to mess around in PvP. Two days ago, I got my first Mark of the Unbroken using Mida multi-tool, a gun that I had barely used in the past. The game before that, my team won 5150-1450 (skirmish) using only universal remote. I've also started farming grimoire, and it's a lot of fun as well. Unlike the RNG loot drops, grimoire farming gives you a concrete objective. Sure it's just a number, but hey, what can I say. I'm a completionist.

                    • Honestly I don't feel like I have missed much playing his game so heavily. I have taken breaks to play batman arkham knight and far cry and lot of other games. Just be willing to put this game down for a month and play something else. If you are looking for something that's a real pallet cleanser I recommend picking up a good telltale game. My favorite is the wolf among us. It's cheap and has an awesome story. I think if you feel like you are addicted to this game you definitely need a break. Also guys lets not get upset about guns being left behind because there is a whole bunch of new guns to get now. I can't wait to see what awesome weapons are coming. I will always love my vision of confluence and my fatebringer but I do want to use something new as well. As long as those guns are upgradable the chances of me using something else is pretty slim.

                    • I respect your thoughs and opinions and likewise I was at more then one time thinking the same. but the game have to progress and in time means making your hard grinded loot made redundant. But it's the memories, the good times, the new guardians your have meet in the first year that is most important. Didn't you miss the time when you were the first among your group of friends to get that certain illusive lucky random drop, I was so happy for one of on friend who I played regularly with to finally get the ghorn. Just think of the ttk as the yearly reset, and let's be honest, destiny needs it..... Don't that the game too serious, don't let it engulf your daily life, and just enjoy it. Peace...
