In terms of lag, I agree that we DESERVE something better than P2P servers. P2P is broken, garbage, outdated and... yea the list goes on. In terms of network manipulation, dedicated servers will be the way to go because there are too many ways people take advantage of P2P servers and manipulate them. And Bungie KNOWS this. How could they not know it. The higher-ups at Bungie or Activision are sitting their in their cozy offices refusing some form of change in the P2P server aspect, because it's super cheap and they would rather put "band-aids" on every little thing, then set up a suggestion box (majority of the forum posts here) that is really just a box that leads to the furnace fueling their perpetual ignorance towards their community. And dedicated servers are quite expensive and I don't really understand the black and white and grey areas. I just know that dedicated servers on destiny is probably never going to happen. See you in the lag infestation we know as the Crucible.

Yes it's needed but I also understand that it is very expensive for companies to do it. Since bungie is primarily only making money from releasing content from time to time, they probably don't have the funds to afford dedicated servers. Activision probably has the funds but probably does not want to spend the money. The only way for it to happen is if we pay for it directly either through a monthly subscription or if destiny starts doing micro transactions. They need a steady stream of revenue for it to be financially viable.

I've seen this idea that dedicated servers are expensive. How can the Rocket League people do it with a free game? Or the better question, why would they consider it financially viable/feasible to do that with a free game? I know that RL has a much smaller player base, and that the game is less complicated.

Edited by smplyraf: 8/3/2015 12:17:14 PMyou idiots have no idea the kind of money/infrastructure/time they would need to support this type of game. Now, i'd prefer dedicated servers as well but it's not like flicking on a light switch. lets get real here... we'd be talking MILLIONS of dollars and a lot of time. Dedicated servers would need to be placed in datacenters all around the country and the world and have enough bandwidth/storage/processing to handle all the folks playing. Again, I agree with EVERYONE about needing dedicated servers but i'd like to reiterate.... lets get real... lol. if they don't have dedicated servers now, it would take quite a long time to get that backbone all setup and by that time we'll all be playing another game.

Here's a great read.

This is activision so.... not going to happen. People have been crying for them for ages in call of duty and that still hasn't happened. I don't expect it will here.
-
Unfortunately it would require the game being rebuilt from the ground up. It's not as simple as buying a server.

Edited by Supremekotor: 8/3/2015 9:19:29 PMI hate to say this, I really really do, but... Dedicated servers have never been proven to be better than port to port connections. Don't take my word for it, look it up yourself. The internal issue with destiny goes like this: Bungie has dedicated servers, believe it or not, they are used throughout the game. It's an undeniable fact that the inventory and the tower/reef are on dedicated servers. It's connecting to servers and the p2p connections at the same time that's creating a high volume of lag. Also, please stop talking about your internet speed. Once you reach a decent speed (most of us are there) it's all about your ping, not your speed. Lastly: it's possible the lag has nothing to do with any of the above. It could be at least partially caused by bad hit boxing/ bad netcode, something bungie has been known to do bad.
-
From what I've read, it would be almost impossible and require a complete rework of the networking system bungie has in destiny at the moment.
-
Dedicated servers wont save you from being bad.
-
Get good internet works too.
-
Wont ever happen in this game for neither bungie nor activision will ever pay for them. plus no dedi's do not solve all problems lag or otherwise ever.
-
Did someone say shitty servers?
-
PLEASE BUNGIE, WHHHHYYYYYY HAVE YOU LEFT US LIKE THIS????!!!???? WHHHHYYYYYYY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN US WITH THIS TRASH SERVER SYSTEM? WWWHHYYYY?!?????!! DO WE MEAN NOTHING TO YOU NOW!?
-
Edited by SpiRits: 8/4/2015 2:49:30 AMWE NEED INFINITY WARDS SERVERS, problem solved.
-
Skill based mm would be awesome as well!
-
Agreed. It's been nothing but problems since the launch really.
-
Throw more money at the screen and they wil think about it.. but no they will never fix this bullsh1t ass p2p garbage ass call of dooky garbage shit ass game, DONT BUY TTK
-
Oh no, that could interfere with....profits.
-
No way, you just know they will be US hosted, then the rest of us will be stuck with ~200 to 500 ping!
-
And guess who won't let them do it... Activision!
-
Agreed but not as easy as you think

My name is SulfonicDoor069 and I'm happy to be here.

The only thing that you can hope, is that they come with Destiny 2, cause we're not going to get a complete network overhaul of Destiny 1 while Destiny 2 is in the works, just hope they add them for Destiny 2, and if they don't, don't buy it.

Edited by HecateProxy: 8/3/2015 6:01:37 AMAt least they will have something else to complain about this broken record is getting really old I do wish they would switch but seeing the companies involved they could care less about fixing servers they are too busy chopping up the game into 30 different dlc packs lol
