It's more fun to find and use new loot rather than keep on using the same gun for years on end. I hope the new level caps and damages leave all the old legendaries behind. Just like in every other game you need to find new and better loot when you level.

 • It would be -blam!-ing ridiculous to make all guns obsolete...if you want new weapons go for it, delete your weapons and start over with the new expansion, I want to be able to use the guns that I've spent hours to get. If there are better weapons then I'll figure out which of my current I don't want...

 • We will use new guns if their perks and traits are better. But using a gun with shitty traits just because it has higher damage would suck. The current system means go do PoE 34/35 for a chance at loot and upgrade materials. That way there is both new stuff and a progression based way to upgrade old favorites. Why wouldn't you want both? If the new gear is more fun to use then we will, but if I get stuck using a slow reload hand cannon with zen moment and unflinching just because of the damage stat, that would suck.

 • I understand what you are saying but I prefer a vertical loot progression. The whole reward structure of this game is based on loot. If we don't have a reason to scrap our old weapons and find new ones then the game loses its excitement.

 • Then make some -blam!-ing content?

 • New content also adds excitement but getting rewarded with loot is the reason people keep playing.

 • Smfh. Games with content keep people playing. Destiny has a lack of that which is why they make the game just a gear grind, and with its model of making old weapons obsolete, they are not only creating a massive power creep, but they're making the rest of their content that isn't that current expansion's content, useless. You're basically paying money so you can pay money, so you can pay more money

 • I wouldn't mind having my fatebringer made obsolete as long as there is a new fatebringer to find somewhere in the new content. They need to figure out new perks that make weapons fun to play with, gear them even more towards different specific activities and/or subclasses (along with a huge vault and load out function). They tried it with the HoW weapons but didn't really nail it. Ascension and endless rerolls broke everything. A better hand cannon than fatebringer would break the game completely cause just one improvement would be not power creep but power leap.

 • I know bud, was just addressing power creep problems in general. Vanilla destiny has the most op guns available still. If we can keep ascending them there is no point in playing cause it's a loot-driven game. Example: I still think vog is the most fun you can have in destiny. Would I do it just for fun if I could get -blam!-in vision to drop? Not very often, cause there would be no point for me to even log on if there's nothing to chase. I'm getting way off topic here cause you were addressing the issue of horizontal vs vertical but seeing as destiny isn't gonna change, we might as well discuss what it needs to stay relevant in its current form. And what it need is major changes to how guns affect your gameplay and the synergy between guns, armor, classes/subclasses and specific activities. They seem to be working on those exact issues to a certain extent with the taken king, but we'll see huh?

 • No offense, but I'm not sure you understand what power creep is. Anyways, as I saw the game was starting to lean a bit more towards a horizontal loot system in HoW, I was always looking for a great new weapon or new gear to try (legendary), but unfortunately, I found that there were only a handful of useful gear. Why would that be? Well for one, they got rid of a lot of useful perks and created terrible ones in their place, I.e., shank burn, battle runner, etc. on top of that, most of the weapons had terrible stay pools. The only legendary sniper with good impact, was the queens wrath sniper (its names escapes me at the moment). That didn't matter too much though because the perks weren't as good as some of the other snipers before that it could re roll for. I constantly found myself switching back to my LDR or efrideets spear because they lacked the creativity to make good perks for the new weapons. I would have used dreg's promise if I could get the damn thing to drop with a burn, as well as it not having a useless perk. I mean seriously, all the other "raid weapons" had perks that helped in the raid, but it was an extra add on perk. And a shank burn rocket? I mean seriously how useful is that?

 • Hey maybe I have gotten it wrong. I thought it was making weapons increasingly more powerful (mainly through perks), eventually just breaking the game? Yup, I liked that they tried with the perks geared specifically towards the endgame activities and I think they did well on that with the armor. There's incentive to use different kinds. I feel like the old weapons have to be made obsolete and in the future, weapons are geared more towards specific end-game activities. So you create load outs because this gun and that armor is perfect for first round of oryx raid and so on. I would also like slightly higher level caps with each expansion. Just one more would do it and make it harder to get to. You didn't need to beat skolas or go flawless to reach max light level, that's bullshit to me.

 • What power creep is, is making higher and higher level caps until the older "challenging" content is trivial which is what WoW and destiny do. An example of how to avoid that I could give you guild wars 2. The level cap is 80 and will always stay that way. If you are higher level than the area you are in, you are down leveled to that level until you leave that zone and you are able to go into dungeons, do world bosses, etc., while still getting that challenge and while getting gear that is relevant, whether it be crafting materials for ascended weapons/armor (highest ranking armor), or getting weapons and armor themselves with their own loot table. Also like I said, the level cap is a constant level 80 so you are constantly obtaining new gear to make different builds to try and perfect, etc
