The only major complaint I have about this is that if your connection is red bar for the majority of a game you should be kicked. It is absolutely infuriating going against someone who is red bar and it looking like they are running by you, for you to shoot them then they run into a wall, and as you turn to look at them that same player shoots you in the back. wtf bungie? PLEASE implement a function that removes a player from the game if their connection stays red beyond a certain time frame (30 seconds perhaps would be fair or a minute?) I would say longer but trials are short games and any longer would do no good.

  • anyone play counter strike back in the day, if your ping was not at a min level you got out in a shit server with others like them and kept them away from the good connections

  • This is exactly what should be done. Anyone arguing otherwise are either cheating or have shit connections themselves.

  • Played against a whole bunch of teams this weekend I messaged I was so infuriated. Found out the vast majority were in hotels on terrible connections. There should be a minimum connection requirement

Exactly. I messaged the guy I played against last night and reported him to Xbox and Bungie. When I messaged him all he replied with was lol :) :) :). OBVIOUSLY no one is fearful of consequences from this. Bring out the mighty ban hammer Bungie

  • So you feel that just because they have a red bar while playing against you they should be banned? They paid the same amount as you did when they bought the game. They deserve to play this as much as you. I did come across some teams which had 1 guy with red bar but they did not lag for us. Red bar does not imply someone is lagging. It means that certain someone might lag. Also I feel the entire fault should not be of the player only. My friends have pretty good connections but sometimes they fall between yellow and red even though they are wired in. We need dedicated servers.

  • Here we go with this attitude again, just because they paid for it they are entitled to play it just the same. That is all well and good, WHEN IT IS NOT AFFECTING THE GAMEPLAY OF OTHERS. If they want to lag and mess up the game in PVE or anywhere other than a competition atmosphere then that is perfectly fine, but the second that they are affecting the gameplay of someone else; whether that be myself or you or some other completely random person I will never meet, it becomes unacceptable. There is no logical reasoning behind why someone who can't meet a minimal connection requirement should be permitted to play in a competitive arena as it CAN provide an unfair advantage whether intentionally or not. Doing so would also weed out those that are blatantly cheating using lag switches (which I did encounter a fair amount of in Iron Banner and a select few in trials). IF dedicated servers is the way to resolve the issue then do it, but if not then something else should be done.

    1. Red bars shouldn't be banned. The guy you messaged won't be banned either. 2. If someone is red bar it means that you are lagging for them too. It goes both ways and if not from the red bars perspective everyone will not take damage a lot of the time but they can hit him just fine. 3. It's a video game and you shouldn't get so worked up. If Bungie/Activision weren't so cheap we would be running on Dedicated Servers and wouldn't suffer from these issues. Or if they actually used Microsoft's Dedicated Servers it would at least help out the XBOX Community.

  • 1: I stated red bars should be KICKED from the game. The guy I messaged SHOULD be banned as his manipulation of the network to gain an advantage is a violation of both Bungie and Microsoft TOS. 2: false. Case in point: playing skirmish to warm up before trials with clan mates. On mine and another clan mate's screen the third was running into a wall, he was running around killing the enemy team while we watched him run into a wall and they weren't able to kill him. He was NOT lag switching, his family just picked that moment to start uploading a bunch of crap to FB. 3: COMPETITIVE multiplayer elimination mode. Whether or not it's a game, doesn't mean that one can't take the time spent in that mode "seriously". While I fully appreciate that Destiny is nothing more than a game and has no bearing on my actual life, if I play a competition of any kind then I play to win. There's no reason to do a competition except with the intent so those that circumvent that atmosphere by cheating or ruining the experience for others should not be acceptable.

  • "Exactly. I messaged the guy I played against last night and reported him to Xbox and Bungie. When I messaged him all he replied with was lol :) :) :). OBVIOUSLY no one is fearful of consequences from this. Bring out the mighty ban hammer Bungie" This was your reply to someone complaining about paople with poor connections. It clearly implies that you think they should be banned. 2. I have red barred occasionally myself and can tell you from experience and what others have said to verify what I said is TRUE. (If someone is red bar it means that you are lagging for them too. It goes both ways and if not from the red bars perspective everyone will not take damage a lot of the time but they can hit him just fine.) 3. Fair enough but don't assume that people who have red bars from lag are at an advantage because they most certainly are not. Oh and you seemed to have either missed or ignored my final point...

  • The response above I clearly indicated that red bars should be kicked if their connection stays poor too long. You are confusing that situation with a different one where it was clear connection manipulation

  • Your original OP was talking about kicking red bars. But I didn't respond to that. Even someone else said the same thing as me.

  • Destiny Player service makes it so that people with bad connections don't get disconnected, since people complained about getting losses because of disconnects. So they save the player but don't do anything to strengthen their connection

  • Absolutely false. If your opponents are lagging this will not result in a disconnect for the people who are not lagging. If it does chances are they manipulated the connection to force you out of the game.
