Why is no one talking about this?

From my understanding, it has been confirmed that all the gear that we have worked so hard to obtain and level will become useless in the taken king expansion. Your armor and weapons will be unable to reach the new light level. I'm sorry but did I miss something here? They JUST fixed the problem of us not being able to use our favorite weapons and now they're reintroducing the problem? I thought maybe they learned a few things but apparently not Since a lot of you are coming up with the same idiotic response I give you this statement: maybe they should make gear worth using so that the fatebringer or g horn isn't such an obvious choice. It's something called build variety an playstyle preference I guess a lot of you want to go back to being clones of everyone else smh This guy explains vertical versus horizontal progression. Now keep in mind, that most games that implement horizontal progression have a slight mix of vertical, that is you reach the set level cap: http://taugrim.com/2012/04/19/why-games-should-scale-horizontally-instead-of-vertically/
Yes this account is new. My PSN however is a day one/beta tester username: robbinnDaHood
• True, but bungie is trying to force players into a certain style. They want players to NOT collect guns, and they blame the lack of vault space on gun collecting. They don't want us to use fate ringer/ghally for ten years, and I am fine with that. I just want there to be gear good enough to replace it

  • I'll stay a 34/44 forever I really like the way my warlock and Titan look. Plus new gear would only be needed for the new content.

    • We can't use the same guns forever. Our play styles must evolve with the game

I believe the idea is progressive. Out with the old (system) in with a new way of doing things. I highly believe the new weapons and armor will naturally progress in defense and damage based on light level. That way you never have to "upgrade" them. They progress just as natually as you do. I believe Bungie wants to start with a clean slate with this system. However it's not completely off the table that the old weapons could conform to this new way of doing things, should it be the direction they want to take. Ultimately it's still too early to make informed decisions until we get solid confirmed details in the matter.

    • I'm sure we'll still be able to use etheric light or some other material to upgrade stuff. See how it says something along the lines of "highest damage available in year 1"? We'll probably have to use another etheric light/material to uograde to the highest damage avail. in year 2. If not.. well we're pretty screwed.

    • Could be good. I mean most of the how stuff just pales in comparison. And to why don't you create something better? Power creep.

    • I'm fine with new stuff and making old stuff irrelevant but I want more space so I don't have to delete any of my raid drops that I've been collecting.

      • I might be in the minority, but im happy about it. If anything, i have more issues with the current set up. Im of the belief that each expansion should for the most part immediately overpower the previous versions weapons, armor, etc in the traditional way. Last versions legendaries would promptly be worse than current blues. Even moreso, i also firmly believe that without ownership of each dlc, the weapons, armor, should be out of your loot table and essentially your light level, and gear available should only be what version you own. Then, any new areas, towers, social spaces, strikes, raids, also should be inaccessible. These are very unpopular opinions for the most part, and it doesnt effect my game at all, but its my belief. Back on track, i also hope that ttk bring back the forever 29 experience, after the last 2 dlc and having max level pretty much handed to you i would love some weeks/months of grinding raids every week for my max level gear. Just my opinion though.

      • Wait a second. This is idiocy. Are the enemies in Dragon strike playlists no longer going to be vulnerable to 365 weapons? Will attack suddenly mean something in the Crucible? Is Atheon going to be a level 37 Raid? Will Crota no longer kneel before the 'Horn? Will Skolas or Quodron or Urrox gain more strength? Will these weapons become useless? No. Will you still want to take part in activities where they are useful? Probably. Maybe. No. Wait... actually yes. The VoG is still fun right? Plenty of people seem to love trying to solo Crota, or just cruising through his realm with their friends for fun. Some people actually enjoy strike playlists. And here is another point: What weapons will you have when you first walk out into new TTK missions? Old ones. Will you be able to complete the activities with these weapons? You better hope so otherwise this would be "The Impossible King". So will these weapons be "useful" in TTK? Of course!! You wouldn't be able to play TTK if they weren't.

      • TBH I really don't want to be using Fatebringer or Gjallarhorn in Destiny's tenth year. That defeats one of the main purposes of playing the game which is to get cool new weapons and armor. Simply upgrading the guns we already have makes the game go by much quicker because we really don't have any reason to beat content more than once if there aren't any good weapons or armor to strive for. I agree with the second part of this though. They need to make weapons that are so awesome that we're willing to switch to new weapons. Sames with armor. It seems most of the armor and weapons they make are a little underwhelming when it comes to perks.

          • I don't mind much so long as they still have a purpose or maybe the weapons can go toer to toe with yr 1 and we can have just a preference. I want more vault space tho cuz I like collecting gear.

            • Weapons and armor shouldn't be made useless until Destiny 2. No way should everything you've worked for so far be made obsolete in just one year.

              • Do reskins of gear let you reskin new gear with the old gear look but keep the perks? If you like the looks of something you can keep it however allowing the progressing of guns defeats the purpose of new raids entirely. I will gurentee if they kept allowing us to acend gear then 75% of the community will still be using voc till destiny 2. Another reason i wouldnt want to continue acending stuff is soley based on shotpackage on shotguns i have 2 op shotguns pre HoW one with range finder and the other has shotpackage. Both are op and need to be removed yeah its fun but its also obnoxious when someone has it also. I want actual shotguns not snipers that shoot 8-12 bullets at one moment. Exotics should always stay just add more to the table and possibly add another that can outclass old ones as the game continues. The only reason i believe bungie added acending was because they realized a good portion of the community was gonna be cut off the new guns from trials and some PoE weapons possibly if you can beat skolas and get the burn guns. so they figured adding acending would more then compensate for those who were and are still being cut off from obtaining these weapons due to them not being good enough to get them. Both game types can be very challenging and their not entirely easy for everyone. just the way i see it...... we are complaining about wanting more gear and weapons yet we still grasp at old gear and weapons? Its contradicting honestly.

                • Have you ever played a game that had a sequel or a substantial dlc like diablo 2 where the vanilla weapons were still viable? I haven't.

                  • It seems like, yeah, a lot of the guns and such will disappear, though they have said they are going to address weapon balancing issues before TTK drops. So either: -They will have balanced specific weapons/types so that they can continue to be used in some way -They will balance general weapon classes across the board so that when TTK hits they won't have anymore Thorn/TLW type issues after those guns are useless (I'm scared of this option) No matter what happens though, this is all pretty standard subscription style gaming. When the first expansion for World of Warcraft hit everyone was bummed that all their "tier 2" gear was made obsolete 7 levels later by green gear... Then they leveled up and got tier 3.

                        • Introducing the ability to transmogrify (like in Diablo III), so that we could freely choose our appearance, would help solve the armor problem at least.
