Why is no one talking about this?
From my understanding, it has been confirmed that all the gear that we have worked so hard to obtain and level will become useless in the taken king expansion. Your armor and weapons will be unable to reach the new light level.
I'm sorry but did I miss something here? They JUST fixed the problem of us not being able to use our favorite weapons and now they're reintroducing the problem? I thought maybe they learned a few things but apparently not
Since a lot of you are coming up with the same idiotic response I give you this statement: maybe they should make gear worth using so that the fatebringer or g horn isn't such an obvious choice. It's something called build variety an playstyle preference
I guess a lot of you want to go back to being clones of everyone else smh
This guy explains vertical versus horizontal progression. Now keep in mind, that most games that implement horizontal progression have a slight mix of vertical, that is you reach the set level cap:

I think this is being done to quietly correct some things. Most people hate the final round snipers. Well they won't be an issue if you can't upgrade them anymore. Vault space? All the old stuff will be almost useless. Feel free to dismantle and free up your vault. I think the biggest reason is to keep the twoobs from quitting. If the ha between them and the year ones is too large they won't stick around.

6 RepliesAllowing us to carry gear across just breaks the flow of the game. I understand why people are pissed but HoW showed that with out the gear grind people get bored quickly and the game lacks that -blam!- yeh moment when you get a new awsome shiny or that rounds best gun... Simply put if you don't like gear grind destiny is not for you. Bungie experimented and the idea failed. Even my clan agrees while a first it was cool they hsve no drive at all to keep playing... its just a few us trying to get the last big hitters like hawkmoon and the like 😕

1 ReplyThe vanilla guns are the best guns in the game. Problem is, if Bungie makes better guns, they're too good. Bungie tries to make things difficult by affecting us, not changing the game (raising the enemies' level, making worse guns, instead of increasing enemy count, or changing AI priority). They'd never in a million years make a gun that's better than Gjallarhorn, because it would simply make it too easy for us.

4 RepliesIf they do this I think the reason is that they have weapon balances all messed up at this point. For PVE nothing beats the VOG weapons really and because exotic primaries dont have burns they're even second class to most of the legendary primaries with burns. Half the exotic primaries i never use because of either a nerf or no burn.

3 RepliesIve been saying this since before the announcement when they let slip. If it's right I won't be playing anymore. I see no point in playing a game that makes you grind for stuff just to basically make it redundant.

3 RepliesI think it comes down to a couple of things. The good job bungie did on the original gear, particularly from the VoG. Most newer stuff has come up short in comparison. The other reason is that allowing us to upgrade has reduced the need for grinding. A lot of people quickly hit lvl34 and upgraded all their favourite weapons to 365, so no need to grind for weeks and months to get all new armour and weapons (not me, I need more etheric light). The only way to force us all to change and have to do the year1 grind all over again is to stop them being upgradeable to the same level as the upcoming gear in the taken king.

I am of the mind that everything should be upgradeable. There is potential for diversity given what we have acquired over the past year. However, I do not believe it should upgrade to max damage/armour any longer. Old weapons could increase to 390 or 395, whereas the new guns are at 400. Armour, I am not exactly sure how it works, but if each piece had the max light, but offered less defence rating by say, 50 or 100 points. Keeping it close, but not on par. The people who want the best, would have reason to continually play, and those who don't, can be just about as well equipped.

Its time for new stuff. The game is moving forward and no one is asking you to get rid of your old weapons. Bungie is going to add a new variety of gear; part of it will be gear obtainable from a new Raid activity. Let's not forget tje fact that the most of the best weapons currently in use came from Raiding whether it was VoG or CE. Tough choices coming ahead, but lets face it, it is time to move forward. Good players will have no issue with this new mechanic. Casuals who are currently good at some of the activities because of their loadout will have to adapt or move on to another game. Which one will you be?
