From my understanding, it has been confirmed that all the gear that we have worked so hard to obtain and level will become useless in the taken king expansion. Your armor and weapons will be unable to reach the new light level.
I'm sorry but did I miss something here? They JUST fixed the problem of us not being able to use our favorite weapons and now they're reintroducing the problem? I thought maybe they learned a few things but apparently not
Since a lot of you are coming up with the same idiotic response I give you this statement: maybe they should make gear worth using so that the fatebringer or g horn isn't such an obvious choice. It's something called build variety an playstyle preference
I guess a lot of you want to go back to being clones of everyone else smh
This guy explains vertical versus horizontal progression. Now keep in mind, that most games that implement horizontal progression have a slight mix of vertical, that is you reach the set level cap:

Bungie, give this man a job. I really didn't know much about mmos but this has help a lot. After watching it, it becomes clear that the developer use vertical scaling because ultimately it will make more money. Make a new expansion, make it harder, make new weapons and perks, make it elitist, make it cost money. Horizontal scaling would appear to need these types of progression which eradicates the need to "level up".
-
I think that would be great. New guns and armour to use is amazing. If this was the case it would make us think if using older better weapons or newer weapons with more damage is better.
-
The new light system hasn't been confirmed yet, once it is, we'll probably hear more on weapons/armor/progression/etc Patience

Edited by Badathun: 7/9/2015 4:17:51 AMThe top tier weapons are so good that anything slightly greater than them would break the game even more

Edited by THE SARGE 01: 7/8/2015 2:20:18 PMIts time for new stuff. The game is moving forward and no one is asking you to get rid of your old weapons. Bungie is going to add a new variety of gear; part of it will be gear obtainable from a new Raid activity. Let's not forget the fact that most of the best weapons currently in use came from Raiding whether it was VoG or CE. Tough choices coming ahead, but lets face it, it is time to move forward. Good players will have no issue with this new mechanic. Casuals who are currently good at some of the activities because of their loadout will have to adapt or move on to another game. Which one will you be?
-
Im sure the people who have ghally will be avle to upgrade it to new damage since its a hard weapon to get. Theres more new legendary weapons and gear then tons and tons of new exotics
-
Honestly I hope this is the case, I look forward to actually using stuff besides vog armor and guns. Also this is how video games work. I have an unbelievably good team in FIFA ultimate team but when FIFA 16 comes out I'll have to start from scratch again, pretty sure that's the whole point of games.
-
I would prefer only old exotics being upgradeable to year 2 damage. Do we really need or want to use the same legendaries all the way til destiny 2 or longer? I'll pass.
-
I feel like they should just put a cap on the number of legendaries you can upgrade. So we'd have to choose a couple legendaries.
-
This is how progression works.

Edited by xXReplicANTXx: 7/9/2015 12:24:26 PMI guess I'd like to have a choice over whether I stash my fatebringer. If bungie the brain trust could come up with perks better than shank burn and battle runner (I mean jesus)then yeah ofc I'd put it away. But locking out older weapons to force us into using watered down piss isn't really a choice is - ACTIVISION ALERT:INDIVIDUAL EXPRESSING IDEAS THAT MAY COST US MONEY. POST REDACTED.

They should keep the same system, you still have to work to upgrade your old stuff but have a choice to use old stuff and new stuff, it worked well in this expansion, I have new guns and upgraded a ton of old, I've heard nobody complain about it only that it's harder to get etheric light if you play solo. Why mess with something that's working? We however need more vault space though.
-
Edited by JokeStain: 7/8/2015 11:24:59 AMThread is irrelevant, where is the proof that bungie has said that year 1 gear will become useless??
-
You do know they did say all of what we saw is subject to change.
-
Shut up GG. And nobody cares
-
They have clearly messed up so many times with gear and progression that they want to start over. None of our stuff will level up because they want to get us on whatever new system they come up with. Upgrading our current gear was to finish out year one with whatever equipment we wanted.
-
I'm equally unhappy with the thought of my gear now becoming useless after almost a year of work to get to the point I'm at now (I've been playing since the Beta). It's frustrating. I've finally reached a point that I'm very happy with my weapons and armor load outs (except my poor autos are still nerfed). I'm fairly happy to walk around the Tower or be in Crucible or hanging with my clan and see a ton of different looks that personalize each player. The individuality and diversity is a good thing! That was one of the benefits of the Etheric light. I thinks it awesome to see so many players with VoG, Vanilla, Crota, ToO, PoE, and HoW gear. It's fun! It's a good thing to see old weapons relevant again! Maybe this is the MMO standard to roll over weapons and gear each year to keep the game fresh, but I personally feel it unravels the changes HoW brought to the game and undermines the work players put into their characters. We get a couple emblems and shaders for being Year One players. Whoop dee doo. You want to let me express myself as a Year One player? Let me use my Year One gear. If you really want me to get rid of my old gear, create something better. I guess my only hope is I can still take my Vanilla gear into standard Crucible. I hope.
-
They need to not be lazy and create weapons that are on the same level as my ghorn. Fatebringer. Found verdict. Or black hammer. I am disappointed with the exotics from how. And even dark below. We got the best ones with the release of the game

Now watch me whip!Watch me naya

My question is why even have light levels, armor and attack values for gear if Bungie will just scale everything so we are on par or one level under par? This is a serious question. Why are we grinding for gear when we will just be at the same place before the new expansion? Light, armor and attack values have no meaning in this game. There is a false sense of progression that makes you think that you are achieving a higher tier, but in reality you are not and you are at the same spot before you grind. Bungie needs to look at how they can diversify the game without adding these limitations. An example is you need "X" light to do this content. You grind for the gear to do the new content, but all your armor and attack values are at a point where they were before you got "X" light. This is through the scaling that is seen in Destiny. So why are we grinding for gear to get to new content when we will be at the same point as before we got the gear? Why not just have us rank up our light level and not have it tied to gear? There is no difference. Granted one thing I will give Bungie is the fact that exotics do change the gameplay and add a lot to the game. Adding in all the other fluff though by making us go through an arbitrary grind just to hit the next progressive tier is pointless. Give us new and fun objectives to do. Give us different ways to change our playstyle without having us grind for light, armor and attack values that overall are pointless. Give us new ways to customize how we look.

Every single mmorpg in the history of mankind dose this. Get over it or stop playing Destiny. It's going to happen if you like it or not.
-
They should just make it so every gun needs a certain challenge before they can be ascended. Like getting 10000 kills with an auto rifle. Because we all know they suck now. And maybe for scout rifles it would be get 5000 precision kills.
-
You should be upset they allowed old weapons to become new weapons. Frankly it was a lazy solution to appease forum warriors who incessantly whine about everything. It leads to a lack of imagination on the developers part. It gave us weapons with dreg/shank burn. It gave us armor with all strength. Because of etheric light, your done with the game because if you did VoG you have all the best weapons. Gear isn't relevant because you can ascend any piece you like. Sure there might be a couple of weapons outside the VoG you like better but the lions share goes to vanilla Destiny. Without the constant grind for new/improved gear there really isn't a lot left to do in this game.

Edited by ajaxMMM: 7/8/2015 3:43:32 PMI don't understand why you people fall in love with a game (or in this case, the idea of a game.) Your complaint is the equivalent of a person being mad that they cannot transfer their Madden franchise from one year to the next, saying "you know how much time I spent building that team?" If you could take all your weapons up, you'd beat the game in one evening and claim it was just a money grab.
