Any tips from pro pvpers on how to get better?

So, I need help. Pvp is something I have become quite interested in and I need help because I'm tired of being on the bottom of the leader board. I'm tired of being made fun of because I suck (yep great community right) I've watched just about every youtube video on how to improve. I've watched all of byf's videos probably 10x. After watching byf's videos, I'd have to say that I have seen a little bit of improvement but I would like to see what advice the destiny community has to offer. Any help is appreciated. Any not so nice comments are also appreciated, as they are like wood to the fire of desire to improve. Thank you. Edit: wow guys thanks for all these awesome tips. I'll make sure I read them all before I play my next session of crucible and see how it goes. Keep em coming. Edit 2: As I'm reading through these replies I'm seeing a lot of practice, playing certain game modes, use thorn lol, radar, map knowledge, and finding my play style. I'll start applying all these helpful tips the next time I play. Thanks again.

  • I got way to used to trying to run and gun, if you will. My biggest challenge was learning how to control pace. Too many times I would die because I freaked and starting spamming rounds. Slow down. Land shots, and learn the layouts. I typically avoid high traffic areas, it's a death sentence. I don't care how badass you are, I have reign of terror medals, but you won't go into many 3 on 1 or even 2 on 1 scenarios and walk away victorious without a super or flanking them so bad they dont even know what happened until it's too late. Sometimes there's mass carnage going on and you can slip in and get the kills before they catch you, but typically that isn't how matches go for me. You might get 1, or 2 but usually the radar gives you up and someone will pick you off. Plus fast respawns can put them very near you again, and they may avenge themselves pretty quickly. Remember crouching takes you off the radar. I've ambushed guys at times. Especially Thorn users. They think you're gone, come walking up and bam, shotty to your face. Use supers and heavy ammo effectively. They can turn tides of battle. No need to hold a super forever, but don't use it wrecklessly either. That could be the difference between getting a control point, or not. Just to use one to make a cool clip, isn't helping your team most of the time. The most important is landing shots and getting kills. That guy you drop, may have been on his way to a massive killing spree, or trying to get your mates on heavy drop. Precision counts. If you kill a guy, he can't harm your team for a little while. Those 5 to 10 seconds can mean a lot to a guy on your team. That may be what he needed to cap a point, or pop a super.
