This is a moot point, as you'll no longer be able to bring your favorite weapons, or armor up to a higher level one TTK hits.

  • Is there actual legitimate proof for this other than something saying "they said this one time but no proof"?

  • I would be bummed if that was the case. I run basically everything with The Last Word. I don't play PVP much and would want the level to stack up against the baddies in PVE.

  • Your mom told me first hand just last night. Isn't that proof enough for you?!? ;)

  • While this is one of my biggest concerns about TTK I am not yet convinced of the reality since Bungie has not commented on this specifically. Yes there are weapons photo's that show Light Level based weapons, but that could imply that all weapons damages in the future will be based upon the character's light level without it's own specific damage rating. If that is the case then there would be no reason why older weapons could not automatically be adjusted to this new standard. Or they could do as you fear and just obsolete everything. That would take quite a set of "balls" to do this with the blowback that would undoubtedly ensue, but it is possible. Right now we do not know for sure as Bungie is currently refusing to clarify this issue other than by make arcane snide comments such as "why would you want to play with the same gun for 10 years?". These don't answer the questions, rather they just infuriate the faithful.
