"We'll find you enemies, but we won't find you friends"

I'm not sure who said this but I saw it as a quote in a recent post. I'm assuming someone at Bungie said this based on the context in which it was used. Here's my issue. I don't need you to find me friends. I have them. They just don't play anymore because they have the same hangups with the game as I do. So no matter how you slice it, I will have to do the nightfall, raids, and PoE with random people I don't know. Why does it matter if I find them via matchmaking or outside the game? At the very least can there be a host lobby situation? This game has some of the most limiting and restricting things about it. Enough that it detracts from the experience. It's like they don't want people to play the entire experience. I just don't understand. I've never seen a developer seem to want to keep people from playing their game before. Help me understand why there can't at least be a lobby system for end game activities? The fact that this is still in issue at this point for many people is mind blowing.

RE this comment and MM I understand Bungie's point about needing cohesive, coordinated player built teams to tackle the toughest challenges. I also believe there is an element of psychology at play by elevating high level content to a point it is just our of reach to much of the player base. I've never completed a Raid, but oh man do I want to! What makes me sad however with this comment is that it feels as though Bungie has discarded some element of trust with their fans and their community that fell in love with them and their games over the last decade - part of the reason I believe the HALO series was so special, is that it was one of the first game series that actually did help you find friends online, and it did it really well! It made finding friends, allies, or battle buddies easier to do than anything that had come before it. The powerful matchmaking options to support online play was part of what created the HALO community, it was the framework around which it was able to grow, and thrive. I'm not sure why Bungie would resist applying what they did so well to their next great game. If MM were to be implemented - Match made teams will likely not have as much success, and player built teams will still certainly succeed more often - but that is completely fine. I just don't believe there is a game breaking reason to deny the possibility to many. Either with MM or some other tools, Bungie should always do everything within it's power to enable the community to connect, share, and play together...

      • That quote in itself defeats the purpose of guardians fighting together. This game NEEDS matchmaking. I bet people played the elimination mode more than the actual trials because of matchmaking.

        • The only times I've ever used a microphone in multiplayer was with a few friends on Battlefield, and that was it. When they weren't on, I didn't talk with anybody. I've never talked with anybody on Destiny, yet in both games there was still team play and we could still pull off the objectives. The entire argument that the only way to succeed is to have a microphone is rubbish. A microphone doesn't make a random (and someone picked up on an LFG site is still a random, thus no different from someone you are match made with) any less of an asshole or a bad player. The only difference is you can hear them. I've played with plenty of solid players in match made modes with no talking. In the three times I've run a raid, the one time that I completed it was without saying a single word to anyone. On the other occasions I was booted without reason (like dying after everyone else) or simply joining to assist. I haven't played another raid since because I haven't the time or patience to do what the game should be doing for me, only to have my time wasted when the people I link up with are either incapable or boot you for stupid reasons. At least with a matchmaking system, I could quickly locate another group.

        • I haven't played in months because of this, and won't be getting any more content unless it changes.

        • This no mic argument is seriously getting -blam!-ing old. In any game I've played EVER with other players, the goal is ALWAYS to see the end of the encounter. If I'm the only one with a mic, I will direct the silent players to what they need to do, granted if we've failed already. The silent players may be mute, but I assure everyone whom opposes me in this, literally every player I've come across is still able to hear me. Now if you're the type to table-flip after one failed encounter, -blam!- off and get out of my game. You weren't wanted in the first place. If you're not though, chances are you will listen to instructions, at the very least hobble through the content with me, and we all reap the fruits of completing the mission. I'm just as happy to get something done in short or long order, the point is completion. LFG sites have provided me with a friend list of strangers that I've raided with maybe once each. Some are legitimately cool and memorable. As I type I can only really think of one, though. Most of the rest are vitriolic, immature, incompetent, prideful, elitist or any combination of those. My friend list since playing Destiny has grown by 200+, all of which were single-serving friends to complete an objective I needed these strangers for. Many of these players were not able to complete what we joined up for in the first place, due to poor time management on their part (Sorry guys I gotta go to work... Seriously? Whyd you start a raid 30 minutes before going to work with strangers you have no idea the skill level of?) Or a massive lack of skill/comprehension of the encounter and in many experiences just throwing themselves at the encounter like cannon fodder. Would this happen as well in matchmaking? Probably. However once things go south you can just queue up again and move on with your life, as opposed to trying to make shit work with these morons you've been placed with for two or more hours, just burning through your heavy synths and hoping this time, THIS TIME, the dudes who've been wiping on Atheon for an hour will finally.. get it. Anyone who's been in this situation knows it to be wishful thinking. It just doesn't make logical sense to me.

          • The qoute was from the head guy for ToO. He was a real ass about it. I totally agree non matchmaking is a stupid stance that has been ongoing since release. My issue is qith seperate lobbys for 9-0 in trails, its getting a elitist only joke mode where the hardcore do there 9-0 and spend there time screwing everyone else ( casual ) over, i dont blam them for continuing to play it, its a fun mode but its starting to die off already. Nice and easy seperate lobbys based on either 9-0 completion or lobbys based on hours played in game. A person who has played 300 hours should not be against a team of 1000+ hours players. The rest of the failinfs in the game i can handle, but the best mode should not end being exclusive to hardcore only players. Insert (scrub, get gud below)

            • Agreed. Bungie - not even adding it as an optional feature - where people can choose and understand the pros and cons of going the matchmaking route..... shame on you. this game is so pleasing to play at times, but so flawed at others, and you should be ashamed of yourselves using game mechanics that encourage excessive repetitive play and then making it hard for 'users' to progress. right now I've been trying to find others for crota's end raid both the forum and 3rd party sites.... not a sausage! I've got a wife and 2 kids, have i really got time to commit hours to finding a regular raiding clan, spend hours typing the same message to get a group...NO. help me out a bit!

Me and my school friends have no problem raiding together. We will ask bungie to ignore these matchmaking threads everytime and threaten to leave destiny, so shut up. No one plays pve anyway this game is all pvp. We play pvp constantly. I like that bungie only listen to our requests for nerfs hahaha. Good luck getting your wishes granted because we will bog down all threads, by asking for nerfs and telling bungie we are fine and don't need matchmaking. Get gud scrub and stop crying. Hahahahahahahahahahah you probably have to go to work while we get better and better at trials, flood the forums and ruin everything for you. /sarcasm

                      • One word: Activision Activision won't pony up the dough for dedicated servers from this century and the resources to maintain them. Thus their current piles of shit aren't able to handle running the game and matchmaking on such a large scale. That's why there won't be matchmaking in this Destiny, maybe it will happen in the sequel.

                      • Why does it matter? Match made players never talk. Destiny is set up to require commutation. Lfg players almost alway talk. Do the math.
