Hello, Guardian. If you have happened to stumble upon this post, then I welcome you. This is the first chapter in my story, A Dreg's Promise. Feel free to leave your feedback below. Chapter One: Found A set of metal doors burst open as two Vandals strode into a square room. Dragging it from behind them, the Vandals threw the naked body of a Dreg onto the cold steel of a surgical table. They strapped the writhing creature down to the tabletop, and switched on the docking lasers to begin the procedure. "No! N-N-No please, don't! Don't do it! Don't do it! Let me keep them, let me keep them! PLEASE, you can't take them!" It shrieked. It struggled against the restraints as one of the Vandals guided the lasers towards its lower arms. The screams continued as the beams of light loomed closer, the heat beginning to burn it's leathery skin. "Please! Stop! I beg you, please!" "Be quiet," one of the Vandals barked, "you don't shut your rotten mouth, I'll gouge your eyes out with a dagger!" The Dreg quickly stopped speaking, but still frantically clicked and chattered. The other Vandal looked at It and sneered. Soon, more agonizing screams echoed throughout the Docking Chambers of the Ketch. Within minutes, the grueling procedure was over, and silence filled the air. The Dreg lay on the cold floor of a dark pit, unmoving. He was dressed in the bare rags that he had scrounged up from the bodies of the other occupants. How long had he been here? Since the Docking? Was it two, maybe three days? No, it must've been much longer than that. He rubbed his Docking Caps, trying to remember. When he was first released after his Docking, he had swiftly deserted the massive Ketch in humiliation, fleeing into the jungles of Venus. After days of running, hiding and surviving, he had finally stumbled upon some Vandals in the Ember Caves. He pleaded to them for help, and in return, they nearly beat him to death. He traced the swollen bruises with his hand, painfully, wishing that they had. After having their 'fun' the Vandals took him too an encampment and threw him into this pit, deciding to starve him of ether and leave him to rot. He had thought they would treat him differently, why hadn't they? It didn't matter now as he lay there shivering, awaiting his fate, trying to find sleep. The Dreg shook his head, trying to push out the painful thoughts, but they kept coming back. He closed his eyes, beginning to drift off. Suddenly, there was commotion outside. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. Explosions shook the ground. Wire rifle shots rang out, and the roars of various Fallen could be heard. The startled Dreg sat up, Is it the Vex, he wondered. After a few minutes, everything was eerily silent. The Dreg stood, staring at the ceiling. What had happened out there? Finally, the overhead door to the pit hissed open, the bright light from outside shone brilliantly. Squinting, The Dreg looked up and cocked his head. The shadow of a blood spattered Baroness in dark grey armor and one of her Vandals washed over him, blocking the light. "What are they doing here?" he thought. "You! What is your name? Who's House do you belong to?" the Baroness growled, pointing a shrapnel launcher at his head. Her dull eyes bore through him, she was clearly unhappy about something, was it him? The Dreg opened his dry mouth, barely speaking, "Ma'am, I--I have no name. I have no House." he hissed, looking down at the ground. The Vandal that had opened the door looked at his Baroness nodding, she motioned him forward. He jumped into the pit and grabbed the Dreg, then tossed him out at the Baroness' feet. After climbing back out himself, he faced his mistress, holding the Dreg by his neck, and lifting him off the ground. The Dreg hung there motionless as he was inspected, waiting for the Baroness to speak. "Hmm, so you have no name and no House, eh?" she inquired, lifting his arms to check the Caps. "How did you get these?" he clicked and turned his head. "Hmm, very well Dreg," he looked up at her with solemn eyes. "You will now be known as Rorschach, of the House of Ash."
