I agree. I don't want to waste valuable time searching for people to raid with, or do ToO or PoE with, and to have to do it on a third party site. If this game is supposed to be a 'social shooter', I'm still looking for the 'social' aspect of the game where it's been coded and designed to easily pick up and play with other people. I mean, I have the same criticism of Xbox Live, because I think their interface for social interaction is unwieldy and counter-intuitive (not to mention lacking in major features that should be de rigeur in this day and age of social media), but I would have hoped that this game would come with features that would make it easier to group up with others to do group activities with, especially when the way the game is set up necessitates it.
Furthermore, I'm generally picky about who I choose to hang out with, and I don't want to have to waste an hour or more of my time trying to find a reliable, responsible group of mature gamers who aren't going to suddenly start spouting a bunch of racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. crap all over the mic, because I really don't want to be associated with people like that. Sure, I'm just as likely to be matched with such people with optional in-game matchmaking, but at least I can then choose to leave the group if I find their comments offensive and easily find nicer people to play with, and random matchmaking wouldn't reflect poorly on my choice of people in my fireteam.
Back in Halo: Reach, I used to quit out of games if people started saying offensive crap on the mic in Slayer Pro, because I would rather risk punishment for disconnecting from a game than help a bunch of bigots win a match. I don't want to be associated with bigots, and that means if I am forced to choose a fireteam, it means those people in my team, and their words and actions, reflect on me. If it's just a bunch of randoms, at least no one will think I actually chose to be with those people if they start saying and doing things that I don't like.
And honestly, I've blocked people on XBL for less, like this one guy who I met on CoD who inexplicably went on a major anti-Semitic tirade during a BLOPS2 match: I didn't even stick around to finish the match, even though I was doing well, because screw that noise.

Well said! Bump
I didn't even stick around to finish the match, even though I was doing well, because screw that noise.
Beautiful. I've been lucky most of my problems have been people actively avoiding communication and listening in to them using the bathroom. It's a sick a joke.

That horse you're on is awfully high, how do you breath at that altitude?
-
I dont need a horse to stand this tall. I'm fighting for the people and they have my back!
-
Well la de f.ucking da

Hey, if you're happy grouping up with racists, homophobes and misogynists, that's on you. I personally don't want to hang out with people like that.
-
You're not hanging out with anyone, you're playing a game for a few minutes. Get over yourself.
-
A few minutes? Even the quickest Crucible match takes 8 min. average, unless you join mid-game. PvE content takes much longer, depending. Either way, really not interested in spending one second of that bigoted bull crap spewing forth ignorance and hatred in my ear.
-
Also, you do realize this game comes with a mute feature, right?
-
Sure. I use it right before I block and report them, and right after I leave whatever match I'm in with them.
-
You sound awfully intolerant for someone here preaching tolerance.
-
People choose to hate others for frivolous and illogical reasons; people don't choose their race, sex and gender or orientation. But let's say that even if people could choose their skin color, sex and gender, or sexual orientation, it still would not justify spreading hatred towards them. Because unlike spreading hate, being of a certain skin color, sex or sexual orientation harms no one and affects no one. And it is not like I am advocating violence towards bigots: I was a member of SHARP long enough to know that violence begets violence, and beating up neo--godwinslaw!- doesn't improve their disposition. But that doesn't mean I want to hang out with them and listen to bigotry while I am trying to play a game either.
-
Well aren't you just a fount of tolerance? You do realize this thinking makes you a bigot too right?
-
Edited by Krantzstone: 5/28/2015 11:30:13 AMRefusing to tolerate people who spread hatred towards others is... something I can live with, strangely enough. I was in Anti-Racist Action: our motto was quite literally 'No Tolerance For Intolerance'; it was even on our t-shirts. Still not seeing how that is equal to bigotry: unlike race, sex and gender, sexual orientation, etc., people aren't born hating others, it is learned behavior and a choice they make. If they want to spout their hatred to others, they can also face the consequences of doing so.
-
You just said you won't tolerate intolerance, therefore you are intolerant. You're an oxymoron, a walking and talking contradiction and are not worth my words.
-
You clearly have never heard of a tongue-in-cheek turn of phrase, but I suggest you look up 'idiomatic expression' on Google. And I still have no idea what difference it makes to you who I choose to hang out with on Destiny. Like I said, if you want to hang out with bigots, that is your business. Just don't be surprised then if people prejudge you based on your friendships, because how they act and what they say reflects on you.

I can't hang out with some one for a few minutes because there's no optional matchmaking
-
I'll cut to the chase we need OPTIONAL matchmaking in every thing. So in my opinion this is the difference between having a in game matchmaking and what we use today outside of the game for group matching. Today's way of endgame matchmaking. 1-Pick up phone 2-find lfg app that's wasting space on my phone 3- find a group that doesn't require the freaking gjallarhorn because I dont have one 4- once you find the group go into the message friend option on the console 5- try to spell the extremely long and ridiculous name of the person in charge of the group. 6- wait for response 7-get no response 8- repeat steps 1 through 6 9- finally get response 10- get Into group 11- halfway through RANDOM group people go afk or group fails. 12- repeat steps 1 through 11 The way it should be...... 1- start game 2- push matchmaking button 3-play game 4-have fun The elite payers can still have their premade games, people can still solo and the none elites can have matchmaking we all win!!!! All I ask is for the option.

-
Totally agreed. And if we get the occasional leecher who refuses to do anything, we can just do what we do in Strike matchmaking and either carry them or just leave, report them and find a new game in a very short time.
-
Exactly they said weekly heroics wouldn't work with matchmaking and ever since they implemented it I use it every week on the hard setting and have no problems at all. Not to mention I finally have a stack of strange coins to use!
