Choose your own horror (for reals this time!)

Alright, some of you may recall this thread in which I essentially took a character, gave him zombies, and made the whole thing a total farce. That was all well and good, but I think I owe you guys something a bit more serious this time around.  I know I've been saying this for months now, but this could literally be the last thing I write on this board before I'm gone. So, in the spirit of Halloween, I give you the revamped (pun intended) and revisited "Choose your own adventure"...horror style.(All rules in this thread still apply) ----------------- Kevin woke up with a throbbing headache.  He could barely remember anything about last night.  All he knew was that he had gotten drunk, met a girl, it was a full moon, and then everything else was blank. Vomiting in the toilet made his hangover a little better, but he still felt sick.  When he looked in the mirror, Kevin's eyes were drawn to several long scratches on his neck.  He shrugged, figuring it must have been a wild night. He walked into the next room and sat down on the sofa.  The television was already on and Kevin saw a breaking news story about some sick people in Los Angelas.  He changed the channel.  Everyone's sick in Los Angelas he thought to himself. To his surprise, the same news story was playing on that channel, and every other channel he flipped through.  "What's this?"  he muttered. The newsanchor was in the middle of a sentence, "to please head straight to the hospital.  Proper measures will be taken to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you." At that moment there was a knock in the door.  Kevin opened it to see several polices officers standing before him with grim expressions on their faces."Hey...is something wrong?" The officer closest to him nodded, "We need you to report to the hospital."  Eyeing his neck, the officer suddenly drew his baton, "Please don't resist us, we're trying to help you." "Uh huh," Kevin said slowly, staring at the baton with a heightened sense of anticipation. Should Kevin:1. Resist the officers.2. Go to the hospital peacefully. [Edited on 10.26.2008 3:23 PM PDT]

 • Kevin shook his head, "I'm not going to kill you. We already went through this. All you have to do is--" "Just shut up and do it!" Eileen shouted, pushing him back with the gun. "I can't fight her anymore...I can't do it." She reached out and touched his arm, "If things had gone differently...perhaps if we had taken another path, I could have loved you." She suddenly grabbed his hand that held the gun and pulled it up to her face, "But you and I know that this can only end one way." Kevin jerked back, but Eileen, weakened as she was, had an iron grip on his gun. "Don't," he whispered, "Please...I can't do this without you." "You can," Eileen whispered, tears trickling over the gun as it pressed against her cheek, "I'm so sorry for everything I've done. For once, I'm going to do something right." She pressed her finger against the trigger of his gun and there was a flash, the loud bang blocking out Kevin's shout of denial. Kevin caught Eileen before she hit the ground, trying to staunch the flow of blood but knowing that it didn't matter. Her heart was still, her skin cold, and her life was gone. Kevin cradled Eileen in his arms, crying over her lifeless body. It wasn't until he heard the soft moan of a zombie that Kevin looked up. His eyes blazed with fury and he slowly lifted Eileen's shotgun, taking the sling of shells from her shoulder and wrapping it around his chest. He gently closed her eyelids and whispered, "I'll come back for you. When this is finished, I'll come back for you." He held the shotgun in one hand, his blood-stained pistol in the other as zombies closed in on both sides. With a cold stare Kevin blasted each zombie as it came close. When the clip in the pistol was empty, Kevin dropped it to the ground and quickly reloaded the shotgun. He could hear the endless screams of torment coming from a nearby room and smiled at the thought of causing the Queen to suffer. When he had spent all of his shells there were only a few zombies still standing and Kevin dropped the useless shotgun to the ground. He reared his head back and howled before rushing forward. Kevin grabbed the first zombie by the neck and shoved its head straight through the wall. Not finished, he pulled it back out and put one hand on it's forehead while wrapping the other around its neck and shoving the zombie's head all the way back till he heard a satisfying crack as the zombies had touched the small of its back. Kevin caught the next zombie's arm as it raised to strike and then twisted it back, popping it out of its joint. He then held the zombie by the shoulder and, gathering all of his rage, shoved his free hand straight through its chest, sending its heart, plus remains of its lung flying in a bloody mess down the hallway. He heard the queen scream again in the door right next to him and kicked it open. Inside the scene almost stole his rage and replaced it with a feeling of disgust. Mutilated bodies filled the room, obviously food for the Queen and the zombies who attended to her. The Queen, however, was what disturbed Kevin the most. She had human skin, yet her face had stretched and contorted, her eyes were enormous and, while maintaining the human characteristics, were multifaceted and obviously had the same compound characteristics of an ant's. Two feelers stretched out from her forehead, scabs formed around the base showing that they had literally shoved their way out of her skull. While she still had her human arms and legs, six ant legs also protruded from her abdomen, moving around uselessly as they couldn't reach the floor. Kevin shook himself and then stepped forward, ignoring the intoxicating smell of blood with only Eileen and the creature who caused her death on his mind. He rushed forward and grabbed the Queen by her neck, hoping to squeeze the life out of her. She grabbed him with all six of her arms and through him back with such force that Kevin flew straight through the wall. He landed with a groan in the adjacent room, realizing that the Queen had acquired the same strength that ants possessed and tried to pull himself up. Kevin picked up the wooden leg of the table he had just landed on and held it firmly in his hand. With one fatal look at the Queen he rushed forward again. Before he reached her, Kevin whipped his arm forward, launching the wooden stake straight into her eye, causing her to reel back in pain as blood flowed freely from her bulbous organ. Kevin caught her by the waist and pressed forward, carrying her straight back through the window behind her. They fell the entire five stories of the building and landed on the ground. Kevin wasted no time in getting on top of the Queen and pounding his fist into her face. He realized the stake had been lodged in her eye and yanked it free, taking most of the eye with it. He then continued to jam it in her face. She opened her mouth to scream and suddenly found her vocal chords cut off by the searing pain of a wooden stake in her throat. Kevin kept stabbing at her face fiercely, piling all of his rage into each blow, relishing in the feel of the Queen's blood as it sprayed all over his body. She was dead long before he stopped stabbing her. --------------- The zombies that were still alive regained their human characteristics and immediately stopped attacking Omar's lab. While they suffered some mental illness, they were no longer slaves to the Queen's will. Omar was able to get the cure to Kevin in time to save him, and mass-produced it so that all those who had been infected could be cured. While those who had succumbed to the infection and fallen into the primal state were eventually killed, all others resumed their lives as normally as possible. Omar's lab was destroyed and his research locked away, to be used only if another outbreak occurred. Kevin made sure that the world knew what Eileen had done and sacrificed to stop the Queen. He left Los Angelas and joined the police force, deciding that he would follow in her footsteps and help people in need for the rest of his life. This concludes my final story for the Flood and for Bungie. I know I've said it before, and I know you guys always say "He'll be back," but I assure you that this is it. I'll keep posting for the next week or so, but that's it. After Nov. 19, I'm gone. Thanks everyone for the support, entertainment and experience you've given me these past 4 years. I know it sounds melodramatic, but I really am a different person because I came here. Better or worse, I don't know, but I know that part of the reason I am who I am is because of you. So thanks...or if it's a bad thing, then you're all dicks.

 • Is anyone else wondering why people insist one pluralizing the word, "real?" Creating a whole new word, "reals" meaning the same thing. The only word "reals" I know of is in the form of, "reels," such as if someone were out fishing.

 • Kevin glanced back at Eileen, smiled, and then kicked the door in, firing a single shot that pierced through the zombie's brain. The rest of the hallway was empty, but a loud agonizing wail told them that life was about to get more difficult, but it also told them where the Queen was. "Upstairs," Kevin muttered. Eileen nodded and they quickly headed down the hallway. Eileen suddenly stopped and grabbed Kevin's hand fiercely. Kevin's eyes widened and he promptly turned and slapped her in the face. Eileen stared at him in shock for a moment and then smiled, "That seemed to work...but next time why don't you try something a little less painful." Kevin's eyes brightened and he said with a smile, "Maybe I will." Eileen looked at him suspiciously but she didn't have time to respond as a zombie came clamoring down the hall, she quickly pumped her shotgun and blasted a hole in its chest. The zombie flew back, crashing into two more that had come behind it and Eileen grabbed Kevin's hand and pulled him forward. "Come on!" she shouted, as the Queen uttered another wail. They headed up the stairs suddenly painfully aware of the fact that this building had five stories. Eileen was breathing heavily while Kevin seemed unperturbed by the climb. "Remind to get a stair master when we get out of here." Kevin glanced at her in surprise, "I didn't know you knew how to tell a joke." "Who's joking? This is embarrassing!" Kevin laughed and quickly picked her up in his arms. She yelped in surprise and then quickly regained her composure and leveled the shotgun over Kevin's shoulder and blasted a zombie that was closing in behind them. Another screech from the Queen told them they had reached the right floor. Kevin set Eileen down only to feel the barrel of her gun press against his chest. "Kill me," she whispered as her finger quivered on the trigger. Should Kevin: 1. Kill her? 2. Do something unexpected?

 • Kevin looked at her for a moment and then said, "Normally I'd agree with you, but if there's one thing I've learned during this, it's that I can't do this alone. I need your help...and without me by your side, the Queen might succeed in taking control of your mind." Eileen's eyebrows rose, "My my, for once the brave hero wants to put me in danger?" She smiled and nodded, "I'll come...but be careful, and if she takes me again, please don't hesitate to shoot." Kevin got out of the car as he said, "She won't take you again. Now let's go." "What, through the front door?" Eileen asked incredulously. Kevin shrugged, "Sure. These people are mindless zombies, not trained guards." Eileen threw up her hands, "Whatever, at this point I'm done arguing with you. You do realize you only have pistol right?" Kevin smiled, "That's why you're here to watch my back." Eileen rolled her eyes, "Sure, let's just do this." They approached the door and Kevin slowly turned the knob, pushing the door open a crack. He peeked in, noting a zombie walking towards the door. He quickly backed away and considered his options. Should Kevin: 1. Kick the door open and shoot the zombie? 2. Try and sneak past the zombie?

 • Kevin pulled the car to a stop and locked the doors, ignoring the zombies outside.  "Look at me, Eileen," he said fiercely, trying to break her from her trance, "I'm from Chicago.  I moved to Los Angelas because I wanted to be an actor, my favorite book is The Firm, I'm twenty two years old and my mom died in a car accident when I was ten.  Now tell me about yourself." Eileen was sweating now and her finger slowly moved towards the trigger, "I'm sorry Kevin." Kevin grabbed her by the neck and pulled her close, "Don't say sorry, just tell me about your life.  Think!" Tears began streaming down Eileen's face and she pressed the gun against Kevin's chin, "Just shoot me now Kevin...please." Kevin shook his head, "I won't shoot you...and you aren't going to shoot me.  You're stronger than this.  Now tell me, where are you from?" Eileen was sobbing now as she said, "I was born in Los Angelas.  I grew up wanting to be a police officer...but then I decided that I could help more people as a scientist."  She lowered her gaze and the gun fell from her hand, "And look what I've done.  I almost killed you because I was too stupid to fix this on my own." Kevin pulled her into a gentle hug, "This isn't your fault."  He stroked his hand through her hair as he spoke, "And even if we die here, I want you to know that you saved me." Eileen pressed her face into his shoulder, crying openly, "How can you say that?  I'm the reason you're infected." "And if you hadn't infected me...I'd be dead, or under control of the Queen.  I don't know which is worse."  He pushed her back and smiled, "Whatever happens, I'm glad I met you." Their faces were inches apart and Eileen's lip quivered as she looked into his eyes and after a long moment she sat back, "I'm okay." Kevin nodded, "I told you." "So...why didn't you become an actor?" Kevin laughed, "Have you been to the movies lately?  I'd rather become a zombie then let someone catch me in one of those films." Eileen laughed and then glanced up at the building across the street, "Is that it?" Kevin glanced over his shoulder and nodded, "Looks like it."  From the brief glance he took, he saw two entrances, one from the roof and one at the front door. Eileen shook her head, "I can barely keep her out of my head right now, how am I supposed to control myself in there?" "You stay close and any time you feel like killing me, just grab my hand." Eileen smiled slightly but then shook her head, "It's better if I stay behind.  Safer for both of us since she obviously can't control you." Should Kevin:1. Go alone through the roof?2. Go alone through teh front door?3. Go with Eileen through the roof?4. Go with Eileen through the front door? [Edited on 11.05.2008 6:16 PM PST]
