The ship continued past the Hunter and disappeared, ripping spacetime momentarily. He peeked his head out over his cover to see the Fallen turning from their destination. His Ghost replied, “It would appear that the skiff alerted the Fallen to your presence.” Cayde shouted back, “Really? You think? Saint, you're going to have company in there.” He ducked back behind the unit and sighed to himself, taking a moment to gather his nerves. The Hunter then pulled out his sniper rifle and said softly, “Alright Gorgeous, time for you to shine.” Still hidden, he pulled out every clip he had for the rifle, setting them carefully on the unit for quick access. He turned, still crouched behind his cover, and took aim. One shot and one Vandal's ether sprayed from the hole in its mask and head. “Thirty-four to go.” Saint-14 heard the shot ring through the comms system and replied simply with, “Affirmative.” Krace checked his rifle for any jams and said with a bit too much glee in his voice, “Looks like we're punching our way through.” The five slowed their pace, moving carefully through the ruins. Each hall and room looked reminiscent of the last. Grass and ferns pushed apart tiles, pieces of computers lay ruined and scattered, and Old Russian decorated the rusted out walls. “Space is waiting.” “Travel to Europa and beyond 3,750 credits round trip.” “Traveler sponsored Travel.” None of the group knew Old Russian, but the Exos had the benefit of automatic translations. Light peaked through cracks in the ceiling, keeping the building lit better than any of them could have expected. Revenant took the time to banter idly, “There is as much dust as ash; we walk on the scorched bodies of those who could have been Awoken as well. The death of so much potential here... Smells like dew and char and screams silenced.” Krace looked back at Vell and asked, “Does he always do this?” The Messenger could only shrug, never really able to explain the Awoken's ramblings. “Revenant,” Saint turned his head slightly to look at the Warlock. “Do you know how to make your void energies bloom?” “You know of the Dark Bloom? My, I'm certainly glad I came along.” He leaned in closer and whispered even though the comms broadcast it to all present, “I know it well; the Void spawns itself in the Light or the Darkness of any and all.” Saint focused back ahead, checking each adjoining room for movement as they progressed. “Ready it, but only loose it when I say so. Understood?” “Unless I find it more fortuitous to use it as I desire.” The Titan figured that was the best he was going to get from the enigmatic Awoken. They could all hear shots through the Ghost communication system and could hear them through the holes in the ceiling. There was still no contact with any Fallen though. The group entered a larger room, formerly a machine shop, producing parts for ships that docked at the Cosmodrome. It was empty now, save a few pillars to hold up the roof, a task made infinitely easier by the massive hole in the center of the room. As they moved through the room, Yvette darted her head back and forth, looking for any sign of movement. “Do you think they're too busy with that Hunter?” Just then, as they reached the center of the room, Saint-14 threw up his hand, a silent order for the group to hold their position. Everything was silent save the fight somewhere above them; yet, there was a faint beeping, just barely audible in the room. “Guns ready! They-” Saint-14 was cut off as one of the room's walls exploded inward, revealing a mass of Fallen Dregs and Vandals already pouring into the room. Some climbed the walls, moving to be above the five Guardians, others circled on the ground, others charged straight in. Just as the Fallen moved precisely, the Titans acted with equal efficiency. Krace stood closest to the now gaping wall and chose to switch his assault rifle for his heavy machine gun with the words “This Machine Kills Darkness” painted on it. He shouted, “Looks like they weren't all busy,” just before pulling the trigger and holding it down, sending a barrage of bullets into the hole. Ether exploded into the air and the Fallen numbers slowed, waiting to enter when there wasn't certain death waiting for them. Yvette readied her pulse rifle, having to shoot over Revenant's and Krace's heads. She focused instead on the climbers, aiming for arms rather than kills. She watched Vandals and Dregs drop from her shots into the range of her companions, but also threw a grenade that speared into the ceiling. Lightning crackled off of it, striking Fallen above and below alive. Arc bolts had begun to fill the air around her and the others, reflecting off of shields and causing their Ghosts' alert systems to whine about losing power. Vell used his scout rifle to pick off the Fallen with shotguns, hoping to avoid as much damage as possible for the group, while Saint-14 used his assault rifle to dispatch all of the Fallen that were dropping from the ceiling. The black sheep of the group was Revenant, who unholstered two hand cannons, each gleaming white. Whereas the Titans' training and discipline were on full display, the Warlock laughed loudly and began shooting into the crowd of Fallen, seemingly haphazardly. He shouted to no one in particular, “Take inventory, oh Scavengers of the great! Remember what was and weep! An inventory of ether seeping from corpses and a dramatic increase in lead mass!” “Would you shut it?” Krace yelled over his shoulder. “Also, reloading!” Vell switched to his machine gun, firing into the blasted wall to try and stem the tide as well; though, there was enough of a gap to allow more Fallen into the room. Saint spoke calmly and clearly, “Flash grenade to the hole; I will put up a barrier-” The rest of his order was cut off as a Captain teleported in front of him and rammed his temple with the butt of its shock rifle. The Titan's shields took most of the force, but it still sent him reeling for a moment. When he turned his head back at the Captain, it was reared up to strike again. In response, the purple slit of his helmet glowed brilliantly and shot a beam of light for a split second into the Captain's face. It recoiled from the light, blinded, but was given three point blank shots from Saint's shotgun. Two explosions went off, flash bangs that killed a handful of Dregs, but sent numerous Fallen stumbling just as blind as the Captain Saint-14 had just dispatched. Vell yelled for his commander, “Take them now while they're disoriented; when they come to, group on Saint!” Krace had managed to reload his machine gun and began pouring bullets onto the unsuspecting Fallen again, but he was joined by Vell finishing his clip and Yvette who had come equally prepared. Revenant on the other hand had brought some more decisive, as he called it. His body dematerialized again and he appeared in the air above the group, rocket launcher in hand. Two shells launched through the air, sending Fallen bodies and pieces of Fallen flying throughout the room. Saint-14 didn't have time to add to the carnage, finishing off the few remaining Fallen in his immediate vicinity. Once they were dead, he ordered, “To me, now!” He then activated a barrier subroutine that projected a dome of light around him and the group as they stepped closer to him. Their Ghosts' power was immediately restored and even overcharged, causing their shields to glow faintly. “Reload, get ready for more. We need to keep moving though, so get ready to shoot on the run.” Thanks once again for the support folks!
